Hijack My Heart ~ Greta & Aiden
Another giggle slipped from her lips at Aiden’s spinning of her. Her hair twirled. She plopped into her seat, smiling up at the boy who had given her the perfect night, before it’d really even started. “Take your time,” she tried telling him as he danced away, but she knew it was a moot point. Aiden rarely did anything slowly or patiently. She gave the backyard another look while he was away. It was easy to appreciate the boy that she had. He was so good to her. No one had ever set anything like this up for her; it was really nice. A smile was plastered on her face, and it grew when Aiden returned to her with food.
She looked over the meals, and then over the table at Aiden when he started speaking. She started nodding, about to say that it was all perfect, but Aiden took the chance to explain the whole meal. Everything really did sound amazing, and the fact that all of the foods matched the decorations’ color scheme did not go over her head. An amused laugh spread out over the dinner. She lifted a hand to her large curls and made an attempt to push them over her shoulder. “Thank you, Aiden,” she repeated, giving the meal one last look. “It’s beautiful.”
She reached for her fork and pushed it into her salad. It was sweet, and tasted more like a dessert than a salad. When she swallowed the first bite down, she let Aiden know that she liked it. “This is delicious!” she told him, almost screaming. She was excitable and the date was everything she could have ever dreamed of. She reached for her glass and sipped it. As the juice touched her tongue, she was reminded of how caring Aiden was. The fact that her drink wasn’t alcoholic made her smile again. It was a perfect Valentine’s Day.
"My pleasure, honestly." Aiden sat with his hands clasped together and a giant grin hanging on his lips. He was more focused on Greta liking his food than he was eating it himself. When she told him it was delicious he nearly squealed, "I'm so glad! It's my mom's recipe." He took her enjoyment as a sign to begin eating. Aiden tried to match Greta's pace, even taking sips of his grape juice when she took a drink of hers but somehow he still managed to be done before she was. It must have been the excitement of the night, it had him famished.
Leaning back in his chair, he started to swivel it as he waited for Greta to finish eating. He didn't want to rush her though, he could wait. "How was your day?" Aiden decided to make small talk, especially now that he wasn't eating because he didn't want to talk with his mouth full. It was rather obvious that he had spent most of his day getting ready for her to come over but he was curious to know what she had been up to. Aiden always enjoyed listening to Greta talk about herself, even the quietest of days were worth hearing about in his opinion.

She giggled when he clapped. Knowing Aiden, he was probably dancing around in front of her, but she couldn’t see a thing. “It’s okay,” she said, still smiling. His hand wrapped around hers and she followed his instructions, stepping carefully. It was easy, trusting him. Greta had no reason to believe that his intentions were anything other than sweet and positive. It was nice to feel so safe in someone else’s hand - it was a reminder of why Greta liked Aiden so much. No matter how slow their physical relationship moved, she adored what they shared.
Still following orders, she nodded and stood in place as Aiden let her hand go. It was clear that they were outside by the cool air around her. She brought left hand over to her right arm, wrapping herself up, defending herself from the cold. She didn’t remove her blindfold until she was given permission, but once she had it, she pulled the mask off of her head with speed and excitement. She was practically bouncing where she stood.
The backyard was completely decorated, mostly in pink and red. Her hands lifted to her mouth out of surprise and her eyes widened. “Oh, Aiden!” She took a few steps towards him, still admiring his work. She could only guess how much time he’d spent on the entire set up. After a few minutes of taking in each detail, she looked over to him. She stepped closer to him, and took both of his hands in hers. “Thank you.”
Aiden's gaze followed Greta as she made her way to the table. He didn't say anything, though his happy expression remained, as he waited for her to drink up her surroundings. As she came to a stop, her body leaning in, there was a slight hitch in his breath. Aiden looked down at her, nervous by their closeness but unwilling to pull away from her grasp. "It's my pleasure, always." His smile had softened, he was no longer grinning from ear to ear but there was still a lingering of content in his eyes. Even though he couldn't swallow his fear, he still wanted to be around Greta and he knew that it must have meant something. He had run away from any form of contact before, literally pushing people away and the one time he had given into kissing someone, it felt like nothing. He didn't know if he would want to be with Greta forever, but he knew that he wanted to be with her now and he didn't want to push her away.
As much as he was slowly becoming comfortable with her touch, he didn't want to ruin the moment by not taking any further actions so he decided to cut the contact short. He slipped a hand out of her embrace and then twirled Greta around as he pulled out the chair for her. "Have a seat, please?" Aiden suggested as he let go of her completely. "I'll be right back! I won't be long, I promise." Within seconds he was already stepping onto the patio and skipping towards the sliding glass door. He turned back for a second, making sure that she seemed content and hadn't moved and then he headed into his house.
Their dinner was already in the fridge, awaiting to be served. Aiden pulled out two bowlfuls of salad and placed them on a tray before gathering the rest of their meal. Once he had everything on the tray he carefully made his way through the kitchen and into his backyard, he knew that he could be a bit spastic at times and didn't want to drop the tray. Wanting to seem confident, he picked up his speed once he set foot on the grass and easily carried the tray to the table. From there, he set out their salads and a plateful of fruit that he had cut up and stuck toothpicks in, then their wine glasses which he filled with grape juice. Although he had celebrated his twenty-first birthday a few months before, she was still a minor and he didn't want to spend their night without clarity.
Aiden took a seat across from Greta's seat. "I hope that you are okay with salad? It has cranberries in it, and I brought out a pink dressing. It's sweet, it might be raspberry." He didn't always pay attention to those sort of details. he just knew his mom put it over her salad and it was sweet. Aiden leaned in and pointed at the plate of fruit, "Oh, and those are strawberries, raspberries and red grapes." Aiden sat back and pulled a napkin off the table, placing it on his lap. With a smile, he took a sip from his glass and waited for her to dig in.
Hijack My Heart ~ Greta & Aiden
She had barely played out a satisfactory beat on his door when it opened under her fists. With her arms in the air, she jumped at the sight of the boy in front of her and almost shrieked out a hello. She laughed out of pure excitement to be in Aiden’s company. His energy was contagious, and there was never a moment around him that Greta didn’t feel amazing. She let her hands fall, only for one of them to be taken up by Aiden. She wrapped her fingers around his hand and gave it a light squeeze. “Happy Valentine’s Day!” she echoed, her smile wide.
It was clear to Greta, especially after their relationship had slowly built into what it now was, that Aiden wasn’t ready for a lot of the physical stuff that typically came with relationships. Greta had no problem with it, though she had talked it over with her cousin a couple of times. The fact that he and Nina were so close was good for Greta. She had done a lot in her last relationship, getting all sides of Landon, and all kinds of experience. With Aiden, though, the slowness of their progression gave her time to completely know herself and Aiden for who they were without complications. It was nice, and, in a way, relaxing.
Relaxed, however, was the last word she would use to describe how she felt in that moment. She watched intently as he pulled out a blindfold. She trusted him, completely, and was always up for a surprise, so she began to nod before he even asked her to put it on. Her curls bounced around her face. “Of course!” she answered, the second he’d asked her. She reached out for the mask, looking into Aiden’s eyes one last time before she pulled it over hear head and blindfolded herself. “Okay! I can’t see a thing!” She held out her hand towards him, waiting for his lead.
Aiden handed over the mask and waited for Greta to slip it over her head. His entire body was shaking in excitement as he couldn't wait to show her what he had planned. Even though he believed Greta when she said that she couldn't see anything he wanted to make sure, he waved his arms around to see if she would react. Aiden couldn't hold back the clap that followed his actions, "Sorry." He apologized, not wanting to alarm her. He was just happy that the mask had worked. Aiden had considered a few options to keep Greta from seeing too soon but they all ended in the same conclusion that it would be too clumsy.
"Okay, now carefully." Aiden wrapped his hand around Greta's and slowly pulled her through his house, making sure that there was nothing in the way of her feet - even going as far as politely shooing Delilah away because she kept trying to weave in between their legs. Aiden opened up the backyard slider and guided Greta out onto the patio. There was quite a drop in temperature from inside to outside, the night air hitting his face as he continued to walk with Greta. "Stay here, please." Aiden gently eased his grip on Greta's hand.
He spun around and dashed towards the table. Pulling out a lighter from his pocket, he quickly lit the candles that he had set out before. Stuffing it back into his pocket, he called over. "You can take the blindfold off now!" Aiden was holding onto one of the chairs, ready to pull it out for Greta to sit down in. He couldn't hide the smile on his face as he waited for her to take off the mask.
Hijack My Heart ~ Greta & Aiden
It was Valentine’s day, and for the first time since coming to Renata, Greta was spending it with someone she had real feelings for. She and Aiden were taking things very slow, but she was completely okay with that. Her last relationship had ended badly and it had been entirely her fault, but she had since become a different person - giving up vices that turned her into someone she didn’t like. Knowing Aiden, the day would be incredibly special, and she looked forward to their date, but since it was at night, she had to find a way to occupy her day.
She, Nina, and Micah spent the day making vegan cupcakes in the shape of hearts. They were decorated with pink frosting, and Greta was sure she’d seen Nina slip some dusty weed into the batter. They turned out delicious, and after eating a couple, the group laid around the Barnaby living room for hours, listening to Nina play the ukelele and laughing at the silly things that came out of their mouths. It was the perfect way to spend her day; to keep from thinking incessantly about what was in store for her night with Aiden.
When Rose arrived home, Greta knew it was close to being time to leave for Aiden’s, so she left Micah and Nina sleeping on the couch and went to get ready. She didn’t change much about her appearance, just pulled on a new shirt because her old one was covered in flour and pink icing. She added a touch of makeup to her face. When Rose called her to let her know that they could go over to the Mumfords’, she was ready. She skipped to her cousin’s car, excited about what Aiden had set up for them.
The car ride wasn’t a long one; it rarely was, getting anywhere in Renata. It wasn’t a big town. Her anticipation, though, made it feel like forever. She was bouncing in her seat when they pulled up in Aiden’s driveway. Greta thanked Rose for the ride before hopping out of the car and half-dancing, half-running to the front door of the big house. She knocked out a playful rhythm with both of her fists.
Aiden was sitting on his staircase, his knees bobbing up and down as he waited for Rose to pull up. Every flicker of light that shined through the curtain had his heart leaping out of his chest, only for it to fall back into place because it just another car or driveway. He was about to dismiss another headlight when it lingered in front of his house, after hearing a car door slam he knew that Greta was on her way. Aiden hopped up from a step and ran to the window, peaking out through the curtain he saw Greta rushing towards his front door. He managed to greet her within moments of her fists hitting the door.
"Hello!" Aiden was all smiles as he looked down at Greta. His gaze wandered up and he saw that Rose was pulling out of his driveway, he gave her a quick wave before she was off. He didn't let his mind hover over the fact that they were officially alone now, instead he grabbed her hand and guided her into his house. "Happy Valentine's Day!" He had grown comfortable enough with her to hold her hand, occasionally he even worked up enough courage to hug her but he still had a tendency to keep his hands to himself most of the time.
Letting go of her hand, he made an abrupt stop and pulled out a velvety red sleeping mask from his back pocket. It belonged to his mother, and he may have slipped it out of her suitcase before she left for Wiley's, but he was sure she wouldn't miss it. "I'll hold your hand, I don't want you to fall, but can you put this on?" Aiden held the mask up between them for her to grab onto it.
Hijack My Heart ~ Greta & Aiden
The sun was already setting by the time Aiden had set out the last decoration for the evening. He took a step back, his foot landing on the cement covered patio, and scanned his backyard for anything that might seem out of place. Aiden had spent the better part of his day putting together, what he hoped would be, a night worth remembering for Greta. He had sent his mom out early in the morning, having asked Wiley if he would entertain her for the rest of the day, and then started in on his Valentine's plans. It wasn't unusual for Aiden to plan for a perfect night but he felt it was absolutely dire this time.
Aiden was staring back at a table under a canopy, wicker chairs were softened with red and pink pillows, and he had set out unlit candles on the table. Food was in the kitchen, and not being the most expert of chefs was rather simple. Aiden didn't want it to spoil so he was keeping it in the kitchen, and had only finished making it shortly before going outside. He skipped back under the canopy and fluffed the pillows once more before heading back to the patio. Upon deciding that everything was in place, he took out his phone and sent a text to Rose telling her that she could start heading over with Greta.
From there, he rushed back into his house to wait for his date. Admittedly, he was trying to focus on the decorative details of the night because they kept him from shaking. Aiden liked Valentine's Day because it was a cute holiday to him, fluffy and full of candy. How could you not like it? But Aiden had never actually had a girlfriend for it. Greta was, at least he was certain, more of a friend by now. He may have given his first kiss to someone else, but his heart belonged to Greta. Aiden could handle that, he was willing to give all of his emotions to Greta, but he was still struggling to conquer his fear of intimacy.
Phone call: Aiden & Emilly
Emily: It really was Aiden. It's like you telling me you like cats. I honestly don't think it was smart to kiss someone else, but it already happened so you can't take that back. I think it'll be special no matter what because you like her, but I don't think you're gonna get thoughts out of your head if you don't try to work past it. Like if you just sit there and do nothing, it wont go away. It's not really normal, but I mean I've been through some really weird shit so I have no place to judge about that at all. I think it just means you really like her Aiden.
Aiden: Well, be that as it may, please don't tell anyone. Believe me, it was a desperate decision and it made everything both confusing and clear at the same time. Nothing bad will happen if I kiss her though, right? She has feelings for me or at least it seems like she does because we've been sort of going out for awhile, and that sometimes makes things more difficult, but I'm not afraid of her pushing me away. I'd rather she didn't but it's not what scares me. I think that I'm going to kiss her though. I don't want to lose out on a relationship with her, it'd be worse than death...
Phone call: Aiden & Emilly
Emily: Uh Aiden, I knew that already. Are we saying thing's that everyone knows already? This may be surprising to you, but I'm a mother........Sorry I had to get that out of my system. Are you just practicing on other people? Doesn't that ruin the whole first kiss thing? ....Well how did it feel to kiss this guy
Aiden: OH MY GOSH, EMILY! It wasn't THAT obvious...Well, I suppose, it didn't feel like anything. If there was anything at all, it came after because I've felt guilty ever since. I hope it didn't ruin my first kiss with Greta....I want that to feel different. I'm just scared because I can't get the thoughts out of my head and they only come when I think about doing anything with Greta. Underneath the fear though, I really think that I want to be with her. It's not normal, is it? To be so afraid... especially when you really like someone. I can barely hold her hand without shaking.
Phone call: Aiden & Emilly
Emily: You're not quiet. Okay well maybe you should.......Wait a fucking minute......Did I hear that you kissed someone that isn't the girl you like?
Aiden: Yes... and, well, this may be surprising to you but I've never been with anyone... like, at all... so I thought that I needed to work some stuff out before I tried to kiss Greta... so, I kissed my friend Micah...
Phone call: Aiden & Emilly
Emily: Aiden you don't need to yell, it's okay. Yeah I think so. Wait slow down. What's actually the problem? Like what feelings and thoughts?
Aiden: I'm not yelling... I have feelings for her but my mind gets clouded with other thoughts about guys and other stuff that's not really easy to talk about. I thought that maybe it's because even though I like her... I don't like her the same way another guy would. And then I thought that I should kiss someone else...so that's what I did...
Phone call: Aiden & Emilly
Emily: That was a lot of information to take in ten seconds. Hey. I've been worse so that's okay. You got me on a good day. Yeah of course we can . What's going on?
Aiden: Oh, I'm sorry! I'm glad to hear that you are having a good day though! Well... Valentine's day is coming up and I've been thinking a lot about my relationship with Greta. I really like her... but I'm not sure what those feelings are... my mind gets flooded with other thoughts...
Phone call: Aiden & Emilly
Emily: Hello?
Aiden: Hello! Emily?! It's Aiden! How have you been? I haven't talked to you in awhile. Um, this is kind of out of the blue but... can we talk about something?! If you have the time!
Phone call: Aiden & Emilly

Dear Friends ~ Aiden, Micah & Nina
Micah was comfortable where he was laying. He felt like he was in space, as he stared at the planets around him. Aiden’s room was really cool. The fact that he was stoned beyond belief only made it better. A lazy smile danced on his lips as he zoned out. Nina’s tiny body was pressed against his, but instead of feeling someone else, he was now just used to having his friend close; like she was a part of him. It wasn’t the first time they’d shared a bed. Neither of them knew how long they’d been there and, for being in Aiden’s presence, they were all pretty quiet. It was Nina’s fault. Being around her two best friends made her more excited about the prospect of everyone being high than she usually was, so she’d rolled two blunts and had them both being passed around at once. Finishing them both had been a difficult feat for the three of them, and the effects of all of the marijuana was now clear.
The small girl felt Aiden shift next to her, so she carried her glossy eyes over to him. When he reminded them that they should go downstairs, Micah nodded, but neither he nor Nina was sure why they had to do so. Thankfully, Aiden was there to keep the two on track, reminding them of Rose’s upcoming birthday. Nina’s eyes widened as a smile cracked across her face. “We should make her a special cake,” she suggested. Her older sister was not as big a smoker as she was, but she couldn’t imagine anything better than receiving a huge cake that would get you high. She sat up between the boys that she spent a majority of her time with and looked at both, excited at the idea. “I can make the butter,” she said, thinking back to exactly how much bud she had on her at the moment, and then trying to remember the exact process. She was almost positive that she could do it.
Micah sat up, following Nina’s lead. He looked from her, over to Aiden. “That would be cool,” he agreed. He would eat cake with pot in it. He wasn’t exactly motivated to get up and actually make a cake, but since it was for Rose, he could easily make himself.
"Perfect!" Aiden shouted, his body raising from the best swiftly. He was normally aware of the fact that Rose wasn't a big smoker but it seemed like a great idea in the moment. She'd love it! He knew that they had all of the ingredients downstairs and he could take care of mixing. Aiden wasn't sure what Micah would do but he figured they would find out once they got down to the kitchen. He turned his attention to his bedroom door and sighed quietly, the kitchen was so far away. Lacking his usual oomph, he stood up from his bed and turned around to face his friends. Aiden extended his hands out for the both of them, "Come on, let's get go down stairs!" Although his movements were rather slow, his voice still boomed loudly. Being stoned hadn't taken its enthusiasm away.
Aiden took the lead and headed out of his bedroom and into the hallway. He didn't like standing in it for long because it just reminded him of the day he lost Tiffany so he tried to rush through it and onto the staircase. Before long he was standing in his kitchen trying to remember what all he needed for a cake. A part of him wished that he would have set everything up before going up to his room with Nina and Micah but it was too late now. "Have you ever baked before?" He asked, his question in Micah's direction, "We're going to have a splendid time!" Aiden skipped further into the kitchen and started to go through his cabinets and fridge for the proper ingredients. "Oh, Nina! Do you need anything specific?" He looked over at her, she was making most important ingredient.
It's A Beautiful Day ~ Greta & Aiden
A small, shiny box was set in her lap and Greta looked down at it with a wide smile on her face. “Oh!” she exclaimed, happily. “Thank you!” She was practically shrieking in the passenger seat, but the gift was already exciting, even unopened. She ran her fingertips over the smooth, purple paper and then onto the pink ribbon. “Thank you,” she repeated, lowering her volume a little bit. She hadn’t expected any presents, and her day was already so much more than she ever would have expected it would be. “Yeah,” she agreed when he announced that they should go, but she kept her eyes on the gift in her lap. The surprise was killing her, and she wanted nothing more than to know what was in the box.
As if he could read her mind, Aiden gave her the go ahead to open his gift. Without any more hesitation, she yanked at the ribbon. She unwrapped the paper and pulled the box open. In it, there were what looked like shoe laces. She plucked them out of their box for a closer look. She was curious and excited as she turned them over in her hand. They were lavender in color and Greta wondered if Aiden had purposely gotten her favorite color. “Thank you very much!” He was making her birthday incredible, and she really appreciated it.
At one point in the ride, Aiden began to insist that Greta close her eyes. Assuming that they were close to their destination, she did as he said. Her eyes squeezed shut as she giggled. She continued to hold the laces in her hands, moving her fingers over them while she blindly rode and Aiden drove. The car slowed to a stop and she was given the word to open her eyes. When she did, her jaw dropped into an open smile. “Oh, my God,” she said. “An ice rink!? Oh, I haven’t been ice skating in forever.” Greta wasn’t great at ice skating, but it reminded her of ballet, which she really did enjoy. She unfastened her seat belt, too excited to wait in the car for long. She was pushing her way out, quickly, and once she was one the ground, she began jumping. “This is going to be amazing!”
Greta thanked him, seeming genuine with her response, and Aiden smiled back at her. "You're welcome!" He was excited to show her the rest of his gift to her but they both had to be patience. Aiden was glad that she didn't ask what the laces were for. He wasn't sure that he would have been able to keep his curiosity to himself if he had been in her position. Secrets, especially those that were happy, were often hard for Aiden to keep. Once Greta was done opening her present he brought his eyes back onto the road and kept them there for the rest of the ride, his smile never fading despite the distance to the ice rink.
Aiden couldn't help but join in on Greta's excitement and soon his car was filled with their shrieking. "Oh! We're going to have so much fun then!" Aiden was hoping she'd like his surprise, and knowing that she had gone ice skating before made it seem better. She jumped out of his car and it wasn't long before he followed her, locking his car behind him as he headed towards the rink. Everything was already paid for so they just had to get ready. Once inside, he brought her to a bench that had a new pair of skates waiting for her. "Happy Birthday!" He repeated, "I hope they fit! Would you like me to lace them?"
