i am a real doctor ✅
but i’m not a real worm ❌
i love olruggio witchhat so much. he’s a sun-coded black cat. he’s a lethally chronic procrastinator. he’s a girl dad. he lies to the police. his magic is warm. his kids bully him and they’re right. he’s in a decade-long magically induced situationship, but he doesn’t know it’s cursed and he’s in it for love of the game. he’s lowkey a celebrity but chooses to live in a cottage on the countryside with said situationship and their four children. he sleeps on the couch. he was a crazy child. he’s a bit of a picky eater. he has chronic anemia and is two minutes away from passing out at all times. he hates hurting things so much that he struggles to kill a disgusting giant leech. he’s a burnt out gifted kid. he is begrudgingly excellent at one of his jobs and on-purposely atrocious at the other one. he has a baby face and is nearly unrecognizable without his beard. he carries an enormous, inexplicable guilt. he’s the sky’s kindest, most radiant star. he’s the perfect man
I'm imagining a world where RPGMaker somehow made it as the de facto codebase for software and you have to navigate your banking app by walking around in a huge room full of NPCs named "make deposit" and "make withdrawal" etc and there's loud as fuck stock music playing
good luck you got this!!! simply do thursday lets go!!
simply do thursday!!!
Best of luck with your defense! May your committee ask the questions you're most prepared to answer and give you the opportunity to talk about the strongest areas in your research!
Thank you!! Today’s the day!
At least some of my problems are funny
hi! please feel free to ignore this question, but do you have any tips/advice/information sources for someone who wants to start submitting to them for the first time? i did a high amount of writing in uni and got into some student journals, but now i'm trying to get back into it years later i have no fucking clue what i'm doing. love your blog and good luck with the submissions!
hello yes, very happy to!
as a caveat I mostly do science fiction & fantasy submissions and the magazine sectors for different genres have different norms.
these days the easiest way to find potential markets is a submission managers such as The Grinder. Submission managers provide both search engine tools for finding markets and a tracker for logging your submissions.
& that's pretty much it!! there used to be a lot more research n stuff involved but these days it's just like. The Grinder has it for you.
some other tips:
the standard advice is to start by submitting to the highest paying/most prestigious relevant market and work your way down. if you are into SFF I can tell you what the prestige markets are. if not i am afraid i don't know BUT i can tell you that it's surprisingly easy to submit to The New Yorker.
magazines generally ask that you read an issue before submitting to get a feel for what they publish; in practice I think only uhh Extremely diligent writers are actually doing this.
most markets will ask for a cover letter. unlike with cover letters for jobs or for literary agents, there is 0 expectation that you will get creative or even really sell yourself. it is just for information.
many markets will ask for a third person bio upfront. you can get creative in your third person bio but you don't have to. this blog post has some info about what cover letters and bios should look like. this one has some more info on bios including an example with no publication credits.
another good thing to do is follow some fiction magazines you like on social media; in addition to making announcements about their own submission calls many magazines will share calls from other similar magazines so you can learn about all sorts of stuff this way.
ok that's all I can think of for now! good luck! :D
one of my favourite human songs-and-dances is when someone notices someone else is lying and, for no particular reason besides love of the game, helps them get away with the lie without ever explicitly acknowledging they noticed. nightmare social animals.
dont store a knife with the point facing down, it damages the blade. no, dont do that either. when you store it with the point facing up you might accidentally hurt yourself when you try to grab it. dont store a knife at all actually. your blade must never leave your hand, always ready, ruthless and waiting. you know deep down that ever since you learned the stench of blood you will never be able to cast it aside. or just get a sheath for it i guess.
I wasn't sure about letting this Hydromancer into the party at first, but it turns out her sword arm is unparalleled, and she only dabbled into Hydromancy so she could intentionally contain the enemy's blood after she rained countless slashes upon them like a meteor shower on the clear night sky for the express purpose of striking a pose, muttering "zan", and then releasing all of the blood on their wounds at once in a spectacle that the villager elder described "sick as fuck".
saw a post on bluesky about reimagining The Iliad as a mecha war and that idea goes unbelievably hard. achilles in his legally distinct gundam cutting through dozens of enemy suits. aggamemnon in his gold-plated mech. paris using a long range sniper rifle to exploit a design flaw in achilles' armor. the gods are all various megacorps who have a stake in the war bc it'll impact their profits.
oh the other thing you need to know about realm of the elderlings is one time fitz described his sexual technique as "workman-like" and another time he killed a rat with a knife while balls deep
thank you so much to @tragediegh for reminding me that was, in fact, the same encounter. truly who is doing it like him (badly)
what if we all explode
This very production of Orpheus & Eurydice is now available to stream, free, for the month of June.
In 1978 Harvey Milk asked his friend, designer Gilbert Baker to make a symbol that would represent gay pride. Using the U.S. flag as inspiration, Baker hand-sewed the original rainbow flag.
He said each color of the flag represented something that was important to the community. Hot Pink for Sex, Red for life, Orange for healing, Yellow for sunlight, Green for nature, Blue for magic\art, Indigo for serenity and Violet for spirit. The rainbow flag was first flown June 25th 1978 for Gay Pride Day and still stands to this day as a symbol of the gay liberation movement, its history recognized and honored by some of our world's highest, most respectable officials.
Baker lived from June 2, 1951 to his end on March 31, 2017. His life was one of art, design, acting and activism. Though going through many iterations as the battle for civil rights changes over time, Bakers flag continues on as a symbol of pride, acceptance, community, diversity and above all, love.
Remember those who crawled through the mud so you could march forward.
Happy PRIDE month. 💜💙💚💛💗
fuck it why not
