i can’t think of anything greater than being a single woman in her 30s or 40s who’s financially stable, has her own well-furnished house or apartment, is doing well in her career, has lots of friends, goes on trips abroad frequently, goes to the gym regularly, maybe has a cat or two, has read lots of books, has time to indulge in various hobbies, and has minimal stress because she doesn’t have a manchild or children in her life
i truly feel like this is the ideal life, which i wish i heard more women aspire to rather than the patriarchal longing for marriage and children which just leaves her beaten and downtrodden, ultimately
Kathleen Kalloch Millay Young, Witch[1896-1943]
A man by nature is gender conforming. He has to change nothing about himself. To be gender nonconforming he has to do something—wear makeup, put on restrictive clothing, adopt a less manageable hairstyle, buy jewelry, shave his body.
A woman by nature is gender nonconforming. She must change herself to conform. To be gender nonconforming she just has to be—throw on comfortable clothing and forget her razors, makeup, styling appliances, and jewelry in a drawer somewhere.
For men, conforming to gender is passive, natural; nonconformity is an active choice. For women, the opposite is true. Her natural existence itself revolts against demands of her gender.
To draw similarity between gnc men and gnc women is to misunderstand the nature of gender itself—it is a set of shackles for women. This means that gnc women are freeing themselves of their chains. But does it not also mean that gnc men are trying on our shackles for fun, with no awareness of the role they play in our lives and none of the pressure to chain themselves in this way that we endure? Do they feel so entitled to our experiences that they can experiment with the most brutal of our feminine beauty rituals and have the audacity to say it validates them? To the point where they demand access to everything women have to ourselves, including but not limited to our spaces in which we can be vulnerable, our anatomy and our language for it, our shared experiences, our names, our very words—women, female, she?
Is a gnc man any more than a mockery of the cages in which we are born?
compared myself to people my age who are so much farther ahead in life than me
I remember once sort of sitting down and thinking, ‘I am terribly depressed and this can not go on…’ and then I thought, ‘Well, you can do two things. You can kill yourself or you can get interested in absolutely everything.’ I read the newspaper every day; I read scientific books and geographical books and historical books and books in other languages, as well as the books that professionally I had to read, and suddenly the world became wonderful.

it's so hard to gaf about anyone romantically. truly what if you get home from work tired and there's someone inside your house. i feel like id get mad sometimes and it'd not be their fault. anyways im going to start a new book
“girls should be allowed to wear what they want, including things like shorts and crop tops, without being sexualized by men” and “it’s problematic that most clothing that is available for girls to buy/wear is revealing” are two statements that can and should coexist 🤷🏻♀️
From the Report of the APA Task Force on the Sexualization of Girls (2007) [1]:
Given that girls may be developing their identity in part through the clothing they choose, it is of concern when girls at increasingly younger ages are invited to try on and wear teen clothes designed to highlight female sexuality ... The sexualization of girls in clothing advertisements appeared at least as early as 25 years ago, with such advertisements as a girl in jeans, dropping her rag doll by her side, with the headline “13 going on 18” (1981), and the controversial Calvin Klein ad in which the 15-year-old Brooke Shields declared, “Nothing comes between me and my Calvins” ... What seems to be a more recent phenomenon, however, is the production of “sexy” clothing in child and teen sizes.... the thong, an item of clothing based on what a stripper might wear, is now offered in “tween” stores as well as children’s wear departments, often with decorations that will specifically appeal to children. Retail stores ... that focus on the so-called tween population (defined by the store as ages 7 up to teen years) sell sexy lingerie such as camisoles and lacy panties, items that once would have been marketed solely to adults ... Nelson(2000) found that there was greater variation in the types of [Halloween] costumes marketed to boys than in those marketed to girls and that girls’ costumes nearly always emphasized physical attractiveness (e.g., beauty queens and princesses). Among the few female villain costumes, sexual eroticism was emphasized (e.g., “Sexy Devil” or “Bewitched”).
And from the 2019 update [2]:
In a study of 15 national stores, researchers found that almost 30% of the clothing items for preteen girls (represented on their websites) had sexualizing characteristics, were associated with what is commonly thought of as sexiness (e.g., red satin lingerie), or were clothing that emphasized a sexualized body part (e.g., a push-up bra ... Research conducting an analysis of 821 [Halloween] costumes and girls’ choices shows the prevalence of both over-sexualized feminine characters and infantilized portrayals of princesses.
And these are just the most egregious aspects. To say nothing of how girls clothing is cut smaller, made with less durable fabric, and branded with sexist stereotypes [3*].
The issue isn't what girls choose to wear, it's the men who have created the "choices" [4].
