With the passing of Texas’ new anti-abortion bill, here is a list of resources that are readily available for people affected by the bill.
-Planned parenthood. They’re one of the most useful organizations that can provide birth control and emergency contraception. By downloading their app, you can receive a prescription for birth control that will be either sent to a pharmacy of your choice, or directly to your door (or anonymous P.o. box!) I personally used their app to get myself a prescription, and it took less than 24 hours to get a 3 month supply. The ‘online appointment’ cost me $25, and my birth control was free due to my insurance. All it took was an email, a method of payment, and answering a few questions that only took 5 minutes. Here is what the screen looked like.
If anyone needs a full tutorial, I would be more than happy to provide one in a separate post. Planned Parenthood offered me several different types of birth control too, such as rings, pills, patches, IUD, shots, and implants. The last three require an actual visit to a building, as well as a few tele-health meetings.
-Aid Access. The best option if you are less than 10 weeks pregnant. They will send you abortion pills via mail, and uses reputable pharmacies and doctors overseas to send you abortion pills, even in states like Texas. The service does cost $110-$150, but they do offer help if you can’t afford the cost. This pill is one of the safest ways to medically induce an abortion. They will offer instructions, as well as information via doctor and help desk at every step of the way. Their FAQ is also incredibly helpful.
- PlanC Pills. They offer multiple ways to get abortion pills from third party sites, including aforementioned Aid Access. It compares prices between multiple methods to help you find your preferred and safest way of getting your abortion. The also offer many different channels to get support and counseling about abortion; from phone calls to chatbots.
-WomenonWeb. They debunk quite a few “home remedy” abortions, offer consultations, and abortion pills. They also offer a Pregnancy Calculator, to check and see how far along you are. Their FAQ is extremely helpful and informative, and discusses the difference between a medical and a surgical abortion.
-Fund Texas Choice. They help with traveling in or out of Texas to receive and abortion. They can help with room accommodations or transportation. They don’t provide you with abortion procedures, and they can’t make the appointment for you, but they help you get in contact with organizations who can. Unfortunately they are only limited to Texas.
Things you can do to help!
-You can donate to Planned Parenthood as they fight against this unjust bill.
-Donate to the Satanic Temple as they try to make abortion into a religious freedom and ‘ritual’.
-Donate to Unapologetic Abortion Advocacy, a Texan charity committed to fighting for abortion rights.
-Flood the prolifewhistleblower website. You can use this catalogue of anti-abortion, republican doctors (with addresses of practices!) to make the reports seem more realistic. I’m not sure if their website will be up for much longer, seeing as GoDaddy has given them 24 hours to change providers for violating TOS as of 09/03/21
