So, I have a theory that most, if not all, fiction podcast writers fall on a spectrum between what I'll call Theatre Kid and Hermit.

Theatre Kid types are performers first, podcasters second. They're making podcasts because they want to make juicy roles for themselves and their various theatre kid-esque friends. Many of them are also into TTRPGs because their idea of fun is getting together with their friends to do silly voices and pretend to be a talking sword or whatever. I'm going to be cheeky and tag @thekilda here because Naomi Clarke is a Theatre Kid to her bones 💕

Hermits, meanwhile, are writers first, podcasters second. They're making podcasts because they wanted a way to get their stories out to an audience, they probably started out in single-voice shows that they begrudgingly voiced themselves because they didn't have a gang of pals to call on. And my cheeky tag for that is @thesiltverses - I Am In Eskew is a classic Hermit Podcast imo, and the fact Jon didn't cast himself as Faulkner in TSV, for example, says he's got pretty low Theatre Kid tendencies.

fwiw, I'm firmly on the Hermit end with some latent Theatre Kid. I started out on my own, but refuse to give up the spotlight now I'm in it!

So now I'm curious! Podcast writers, where do you think you fall?

i keep seeing people who are surprised that there is a new season of Alice Isn't Dead, and other than these occasional notes of surprise i see very little mention of it at all.

the new season has been out since mid-April and we are already halfway through it. i know the WTNV team has been posting about it on their social channels for months leading up to it. i dont think we are doing anything differently, promotion-wise, than we did with the first three seasons which seemed to find their audience much more quickly.

personally i find it rather frustating given the amount of work we put into this show, but im not really sure what to do about it. i know part of it is down to the fact that audiofiction is a far more competitive field than it used to be, and there's also so much noise and chaos in the world these days that its hard to find anything, and so many terrible problems that fiction feels less important.

these are obviously not all issues that i or anyone else on the team can solve but i am still curious if anyone has thoughts about why it seems to much harder to get the word out now
