Yeah according to Matt Braly, he reframed from showing much of Sasha’s home life (if at all) because he didn’t want to remove the agency from her arc and put the blame on her parents which while I love it and I LOVE SASHA (Sasha’s my personal favorite of the three) I always thought it was a strange logic
I mean Matt had a hand in writing for Pacifica Northwest episodes and the famous GF episode “Northwest Manor Mystery” which explained Pacifica’s relationship with her parents and her character without excusing her previous actions.
Heck the same thing happened with Andrias in “The Core and the King” where he gets an episode explaining his home life and his background plus how he became what he is without excusing him
I loved that choice too! It makes Sasha more responsible for her actions and makes her redemption all the more powerful.
And as for Pacifica, it's important to note that Sasha had a whole three seasonsish to develop and grow. So it'd be fine to remove her family from the equation, as there is plenty of time for Sasha to properly redeem herself and grow into a better person.
Pacifica, on the other hand, quite literally had only one redemptive episode that focused on her. Introducing her abusive parents helped speed that up and delve into her motives + mindset.
As for Andrias, I haven't gotten to Season 3 of my rewatch yet but going off of what I remember, it was prolly pretty important to see his home life because his ancestors make up The Core, the other major villain of the story. Plus the plot point of Leif's letter was crucial to "All In" (sorry I forgot a buncha stuff from near the end of S3, so this part of my explanation prob doesn't make sense too much)
thinking about the parallels between these three shots and how grace is fighting to keep his eyes open in the first two and in the third his fight is finally over and he can close them by his own volition out of pure relief & love for his best friend

Always always always thinking about how as soon as Grace told Rocky he had killed himself to come back and save him he almost immediately told him to leave him behind (most likely to die) to save himself. Rocky you drive me so insane.
what it comes down to is that he really just loves that rock. that's his guy. seven billion people on earth and none of them were his guy and you know what??? he's in luck because he got shot into space and his guy just happened to be in space also. sometimes life is just beautiful
shout out to project hail mary for being a platonic romantic movie. like. Like. every other scene with eva or rocky harks deeply on romantic tropes. rocky and grace pressing their faces together through the xenonite. grace going to find eva on the deck of the ship, being the only one who looked for her. the dance between the blip-a and the hail mary when they first connect tunnels. eva telling grace she believes in him like a prayer. rocky being bossy and impassioned and grace being exasperated but also adoring it. the entire karaoke scene, the cuts to graces smile while she sings. rocky screaming at grace to Get The Fuck Inside during the taumeoba mission. and its a lovestory abt platonic love. at no point does the movie imply either of these relationships should be or are romantic. but they are love stories. Lowers my body into the marsh.

I love how a good 80% of the PHM fandom collectively agreed that Grace and Rocky are soulmates in every interpretation of the word. Quite literally red-string fated together by a cosmic plague among stars are you serious
it wants to be close to me. probably because it is so cold and soft & it knows i am strong and warm
it's 3am and grace looks over at rocky like "would you still love me if i was a worm? 🥺" and rocky, already in the seventh circle of codependency, says There Is No Universe In Which I Do Not Cherish You. You Are The Most Important Thing In My Life. I Would Do Everything Over Again For You. No Matter What Form You Take I Will Find A Way To Care For You. What Is This Worm You Speak Of. and the translator chugs out "yes. what is worm, question?" and grace is like "aw thanks buddy :)" and starts talking about worms while rocky starts designing the xenonite suit immediately just so he can beat the laptop to death with his bare(ish) hands
