slytherin loyalty
for all that we like to imagine slytherins banding together in the face of Other Houses (namely gryffindors), we never really discuss why they didn’t do this in the case of severus snape during his school years. we all know lucius singled him out when they were both at hogwarts and we have hcs of them being bros and him teaching snape to be more refined so he can blend in more, but this also clashes with the fact that this great blond git never actually helps snape out with the merry band of gryffindors that keeps tormenting him. there may be reasons for this: 1. lucius didn’t know it was happening; he was older after all, and by the time the 4 vs 1 thing started happening he could have already graduated; (possible) 2. severus never told anyone about it; (possible but the bullying had also gotten so bad faculty had gotten involved, and james had strung him up in public that one time so word would have surely spread?) 3. slytherin is known for their infamous in-house loyalty, but it’s also classist and racist and so they never bothered to defend snape because they never saw him as one of their own. to them he would always be the poor half-breed boy that they would rather not be associated with, or at the very least they would just rather not be on the wrong end of his wand. (the likely scenario) it’s just sad when you think about it because we come to the conclusion then that severus really had no one, not even his housemates who, by age-old internal arrangements, should have been on his side. i would love to imagine that slytherins had eventually learned what the gryffindors had been doing and had given them a taste of their own medicine, but not once do the books mention this, and snape’s behavior doesn’t demonstrate it either. he never expects anyone to take his side because no one ever did. (what i wouldn’t give for lucius to have thoroughly beat james and sirius’ asses though just to leave snape alone ugh)
I love the concept of Lucius befriending young Snape I always had the hc that he was nice enough to the kid, but didn't really see much of him (he was only there for 1-2 years before leaving if I recall right). Anyway, the way I see it, there are two options
1. During sorting, when Snape's called up, he doesn't spare much more than a cursory glance. He's wearing threadbare robes, that look too big on him as if he bought it second-hand. He can't recall a "Snape" family, so he must be a half-blood/muggleborn, and doesn't expect him to be in his house. So, imagine his surprise when the hat bellows out "Slytherin".
Snape goes right for the head of the snake (Lucius) with no hesitation, and Lucius realises this kid doesn't know the Malfoy family at all, when the kid raises a hand to shake as he introduces himself with a "You heard my name already, what's yours, then?" With a twist of his lips as if he knows something about the value of names.
Lucius feels something in him contort, he never has to introduce himself, and yet, he offers his name, if this kid could see the leader so easily, could see the subtle shift in power here, maybe his instinct could make up for his bad breeding/blood (whatever) and keeps an eye out for the kid, only he never really sees him much/the bullying isn't that obvious yet (it's more shoving him/pushing books out of his hands, minor stuff)
I realised I'm rambling so I'll just be more concise for the second
2. Lucius and Narcissa befriend Snape out of sheer hopelessness, years after Hogwarts. They have tried to have kids and failed for years, asking all sorts of people etc, found out Snape gained potion mastery at a very young age (just out of school) and just decide to throw caution to the wind in hopes the young potion's expert could make it so they could have an heir. Something something, Snape makes it so they have Draco and becomes a godfather because Draco literally wouldn't exist without him (I'm really trying to be concise lol otherwise I will write like a whole essay on this because I'm a weakling but it's 3am)
But yeah, I'd like to see either Snape punch one of them in the face (they expelliarmus him and bam, socked in the jaw) because you bet he'd fight like the working class kid he is if he needed to. Or just some older slytherins sort of side-eying them and stopping it (beating them up) before it starts to fester
Okok so Snape burning Malfoy manor down is fun, but just consider Snape goading Draco to burn Malfoy manor, with fiendfyre.
Draco frantically trying to stop the flames before everything gets eaten up in the never ending blaze. The fear bleeding into frustrated, angry tears because he doesn't know how to stop it, trying to get Snape to tell him how to do it, even if he's the one who orchestrated it. Dithering between wanting guidance and wanting to leave, because the way Snape's smiling is off, it looks wrong on his face, mouth too wide, showing too much teeth, it looks vindictive and snake-like and he almost looks pleased at the outcome. But there's nobody except Snape, so he's got to put his trust in his godfather's hands, even though he knows it's the worst place to put that trust

Reblog if you ship are a HP multi shipper, ship blackcest, dark ships, don't kinkshame, is pro ship, and/or genuinely let others ship what they want without interfering.
you can find awful characters compelling/interesting without sanitizing them and editing their entire personality. btw. idk if y’all are aware of that
Idk if it's the whole posh boy looking much less put together, crying his heart out because he's bitten off more than he can chew or if it's the way you can hear him choking on sobs and whimpers but either way that sectumsemptra incident is my favourite thing in existence and Snape showing up to heal him is *chef kiss*, when he falls to his knees like the combination of bloodied and crying Draco is a critical hit and maybe it's the intimacy of it but I'm completely feral normal about the possible woundplay element
If Snape was a tiny, tiny bit worse (because he deserves to be unhinged sometimes) he'd be full of adrenaline from rushing over here after hearing moaning Myrtle scream "Murder in the bathroom". It bleeds (lmao) into arousal when he finds Draco.
"Scared?" Snape absently wondering, as he rucks up the shirt with no regard, it was definitely ruined anyway. "I could just-" Snape's fingers digging at the wound, Draco doesn't answer because he's a million miles away, eyes murky and distant. Snape doesn't mind, too stuck wondering how warm would it be in there.
Draco's choked gasps spilling past gritted teeth, face contorting in pain. Tears bubbling up and dribbling down his boy's cheeks. Thumbing at Draco's face to wipe at the tears, leaving bloodied streaks and listens to Draco's breath catching in his throat. Snape can't quite tell if it's fear or pain or a mix of the two, all Snape knows is it makes his cock twitch in his robes

what a good pupper
some of u r really ugly when it comes to POA cause "snape outed lupin" " practically got him sacked" and nobody wants to talk about the man reliving traumas by being forced to work with his childhood vicious bully that also was used to attempt to murder him (and he doesn't know just how much he was involved in the whole thing, genuinely doesn't think lupin is a nice person at all) and making him wolfsbane for the sake of not getting any other children in the fear he was as a kid or simply killed/bitten.
severus snape was in no obligation to go to such lengths while not even knowing whether lupin was a nice person or not but he still did it and at the end of the day the man still fucked up. who is to say any other time lupin is being emotionally unstable again he won't forget to drink the bloody potion while working with kids?
"he outed him" he literally thought he was involved in his attempted murder when he was a kid. the marauders were so vicious against snape when they were kids, he didn't put it past all of them to kill him one day. he was fifteen.
everyones always talking about "lupin getting outed" and nobody really gives a fuck about the man that never healed from his traumas being in the emotional distress of having his past bully as a co worker (who didn't apologize), and his other former bully that killed his ex best friend and her husband and is after bestie's child is out of jail and probably seeking to finish the job when he promised to protect the boy.
fuck y'all, go cry me a river about remus lupin being forced to step down from the DADA professor job, the position is cursed anyway he would've been out one way or another.
Honestly, he goes above and beyond in PoA, like, continously bringing Lupin his potions, across the castle, because he wants to make sure Lupin gets it, trying to remind him to have it but Lupin keeps brushing him off, saying he'll have it later. When Snape's proven right to not have trusted Lupin to do one job and drink his not murder juice that SNAPE HAND DELIVERED HIM (why should Snape have to mind him so much, guy's also a teacher who ought to have a brain and yet)
He creates stretchers for them even though there wasn't an audience he had to pretend to be good for, after all, Sirius bashed him on the walls when he got knocked out, he tries to push the idea he knew Sirius Black was capable of murder at 16, and asks Doubledoor if he's forgotten that tidbit, that would be murder attempt that the headmaster has seemingly forgotten. Doubledoor waves it aside, saying something like "My memory is as good as ever" (paraphrased because I don't remember).
The blame is placed solely at Snape's feet, for not growing out of it, for not getting along with his childhood bullies, but he hasn't been given a single reason to lift an olive branch in their direction. They deflected, refuse to apologise and yet, he's considered the childish one for not turning the other cheek, for not being the bigger man etc when he's not even been given room to hear someone admit what they did to him was wrong. Dumbles failed him, time and time again and yet, he kept pretending Snape just had to get over himself and his childhood grudges, like Lupin did.
To Snape, the leader of the light side saw his almost death as a minor inconvenience in the scheme of things because he demanded silence from him, with threats of expulsion. While in the same breath talking about how everyone deserves an education, even werewolves that almost maim students. Why? Because he was stained in the wrong robe colours? What side is there other than the dark one if the light side failed him so utterly and completely? If you leave a whole house to fester like a wound. Uncared for and to left to rot, ofc they'll start looking for guidance in all the wrong places.
