Me trying to understanding Kazou Tengan’s plan
- Tengan was not aboard the Izuru Kamukura Project.
- He dislikes violence, believed that violence create despair.
- Chisa gave the Despair video to Tengan then somehow watched it that it turn him to a Despair.
- Chisa also gave him intel that Mitarai made the video.
Speculations I have prior to the game
- After he watched the despair video (I think he turned out like Nagito). Where he would do violent acts to stop a violent world but more subtle.
- Mentored and befriended Mitarai, where I think at this point Mitarai trusted Tengan a lot.
- He then somehow learned that Mitarai made a brainwashing “Hope Video” but Mitarai was hesitant to use it or operate it because of trauma and it wouldn’t be approve by Munakata and the other foundation leaders.
- He planned to fight against despair the same way it started. – Fight fire with fire.
- Being close to Munakata, Chisa knew the layout of his building and its system. Being an ultimate housekeeper, she’s the one who set up the traps the traps in the building (The explosion at the front desk.)
- Chisa made the forbidden action.
- Mitarai wasn’t supposed attend. (Very important. I’ll get back to this).
- Tengan wanted everyone in future foundation to die and planned to kill Munakata. He especially planned to die but only at the end. If people did survive it didn’t matter.
- The remnants of Despair killed by Munakata’s fleet.
- When game ends, a video will be sent to Mitarai explaining he was the mastermind.
(his words where so targeted and specific. Like he chose his words very carefully so that Mitarai will launch the brainwashing video.)
- Since Tengan was someone Mitarai looked up to and was Mitarai’s vision of hope. The thought of his Mentor filled with despair because of all the hurt, violence and despair going on in the world (that Mitarai feel like he caused) drove him to do the unthinkable.
- I also think that since the game wasn’t broadcasted, it would be blamed on the Remnants, no matter what
- Giving Mitarai the burden of learning the truth. If the truth of a Future foundation member was actually the masterminded of a killing game gets out to the public, NO ONE would ever trust the foundation at all to protect them. – that’s an extra nugget of despair for Mitarai.
- So feeling like he aided in Junko’s plan, having guilt that he turned his classmates and friends into Terrorist, and seeing his Mentor being overtaken by despair. He felt like he must do something to erased Despair all together, erasing all negative emotion that caused despair the same emotion his Mentor so called blamed.
- Hence, Mitarai uploading his brainwashing hope video with NO ONE stopping him.
1. Mitarai being in the game.
Mitarai didnt know about Naegi’s hearing and somebody told him that he had a meeting with Tengan that day but once he entered the room the chairman was surprised to see him. (head cannon that Chisa told him there was a meeting because she wanted him in the game and she made a forbidden action for him.)
( Tengan was essentially doing his best to protect Mitarai at all cost during the killing game. Even letting Mitarai stay with Kirigiri because his death flag wont be raised if he was with her.)
2. Naegi himself being there with Mitarai when the video occurred. (He had to leave Mitarai with Kirigiri for his survival, but its also a double edge sword because she would go to Naegi in the end.
- with Naegi being there when Tengan’s video message open (Tengan probably was hoping Naegi would die either via despair video or during the 2nd fight with Munakata.) because of Naegi being there when Mitarai played the video. Naegi would stopped Mitarai’s plan.
3. Remnants of Despair being bad asses. Dominating an entire fleet and stealing one. (I also head cannon that people in Togami’s camp or Alter Ego contact them through one of the ships and told them the situation going on about the killing game and learning about Chisa and Mitarai being in it.)
- So they decided to help save Naegi since he and his friends helped them and also to help their fellow teacher and classmate.
