My relationship with books
Heart: Yes
Wallet: No
Library: I think I can help?
Author Kate DiCamillo paid our library a visit yesterday!
Full gallery of the event!
Cool event at our library system!
We had a four-week art series at our library, and here are some of the creations!
Top left: Bubble prints! Mix water, soap, and paint, then blow bubbles! Use paper to “catch” the bubbles and make a print.
Top right: Japanese Notan art, where the kids cut out an image on the black construction paper, then pasted on the other side to make matching sides in reverse colors.
Middle left: Printmaking! Draw an image in pencil or sharpie on a plastic plate. Color the plate in a thin layer of paint. Use a Q-tip to remove the paint from the original drawing. Press plate on paper and voila!
Middle right: We made our own de stijl art, just like Mondrian, by putting squares and rectangles on graph paper.
Bottom: Salvador Dali inspired play dough sculpture!

Library of the Year 2015 Special Mention
Many of the nominees in this competition demonstrate the innovation and excellence practiced every day by U.S. and Canadian libraries. Two other libraries in particular deserve special mention for featuring the service philosophy and dedication to community that signify a Library of the Year.
Congratulations to the Nashville Public Library and Orange County Library System, Orlando, FL.
Great moment? Being a Library of the Year Special Mention!
Look at these amazing gingerbread houses? Alafaya kids are super talented.
“The bottom line is that time travel is allowed by the laws of physics.” ― Brian Greene
Happy Back the Future Day! You didn’t know that? C’mon, “Think, McFly. Think!” In honor of this auspicious occasion, we present ten essential time travel novels because how many times can you listen to Huey Lewis and the News?!

28 Challenged and Banned Comics to Read During Banned Books Week 2015!
During Family Science Night, we used “Rosie Revere, Engineer” to teach the Engineering Design Process and simple machines. Then, families invented their own (Rosie approved) pom-pom launchers!
Handy.

Graphic Novels for People Who Aren’t into Superheroes
[via Barnes and Noble Blog]
These days, it seems like you can’t turn around without stepping on a cape or two. Always the powerhouses of the comic book world, superheroes have now taken over movie theaters as well.
Luckily, readers who don’t think Superman is so super don’t have to eschew the graphic novel aisles altogether. There’s a whole slew of brilliant books out there with nary a cape or cowl to be seen.
Maus by Art Spiegelman
Ghost World by Daniel Clowes
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
Fables by Bill Willingham
Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley
Boxers & Saints by Gene Yuen Lang
I Remember Beirut by Zeina Abirached
Dogs of War by Sheila Keenan
Totally putting this on a shelf one of these days.
Wish I knew which library to credit!
