Question: Hello, I am very interested in Bennington because I am passionate about writing and dance, and was wondering what Bennington would be like for me as a creative individual and how those programs are?
Answer:
To start off, both dance and writing are vibrant programs at Bennington College. Feel free to explore these in our Spring curriculum offers here and here. You mention that these are both passions of yours. At Bennington you will be asked to articulate how your passions are independent or interconnected. For example: For you, are writing and dance parallel inquires or are the explorations of the same question?
For example, Sylvia is studying dance and French and English literature. She is working with the self/other divide in writing and in movement -- this, in literature, looks like a lot of close, critical analysis of the subject/object relation in writing, and using the interaction of the interior and exterior worlds as a source for material in dance. It's still in the works. It's always in the works... And it's so much fun!
Question: Also, I graduated high school early and I am currently taking classes at my local college. I was wondering if it is harder to get in as transfer student, because I don't want that to effect my chances of admission.
Answer: Admission is very much based on individual strengths and personality. In that way, we're never really looking to fill a quota. So don't worry about which box you appear to be in (transfer, international, bipedal, vegetarian, or gluten free). We look at you as a person. If you have any other questions specifically about transferring, please contact our transfer counselor Sarah at [email protected] - I promise she doesn't bite :) Best of luck, Sylvia '16 and Alana '15
