important—hi, it’s me, @alaskan-wallflower. my account was hacked so I have to make this from a completely different account.
Okay. I want to make sure everybody is staying safe and isn’t falling for the same bullshit I did. I don’t have control over my main account right now so I had to make a separate one. I don’t know how else to prove that I’m who I say I am.
If you get a DM from me (on @alaskan-wallflower or any other account that “looks legitimate” and tells you that “they accidentally reported a blog that looks similar to yours and got their friends to mass report you too, so tumblr says they’re going to get you into legal trouble if you don’t repeal it within a set amount of time so you have to contact the tumblr staff on discord to fix it or you’ll get into legal trouble”, don’t believe it.
(this is what the scam looks like)
I foolishly clicked on the discord link, thinking it was legit. I was talking to someone who I thought from the Tumblr staff. They used scare tactics and other such methods to get me to disconnect my email and implant the one they gave me under the guise that it would be used to “scan my blog for suspicious activity” so I could prove I wasn’t a scammer.
I did as they asked and they immediately started badgering me for money. (which is another common sign of a scam—these people are impatient as hell. Real people wouldn’t be this rude and threaten you even after being given screenshots proving yourself). I realized it was a scam after they asked me for a $350 deposit to “verify my account”. So yeah, they were holding my blog at ransom, only allowing me to change my gmail after I paid them the money. I didn’t pay them, of course. I’m lucky I didn’t lose my credit card. But it was too late, and I don’t currently have access to my main account. (and I don’t know when I’ll get access back). I sent a ticket to tumblr, so I’m just waiting now. I wanted to reach out just so you guys were aware.
I can admit I was being foolish and wasn’t thinking straight. these people use scare tactics (threatening with legal action, threatening with your IP address, threatening with putting a warrant your house…which yeah, i realize now that tumblr can’t do. i was being stupid. i can admit that) to make sure you’re not in your right mind. That’s what happened to me, at least. I was being stupid and I let my anxiety take the reins rather than using logic.
You can tell the person is a scammer because of the repeated poor grammar—“a gift card” being used on both Discord and Tumblr. I want to make sure people are staying informed. THE HACKER IS USING HACKED ACCOUNTS TO SPREAD THIS SCAM. DO NOT ENGAGE WITH ANY MESSAGES SAYING THAT YOU WERE REPORTED. DO NIT REPORT THE ACCOUNTS ON TUMBLR EITHER—THEY WERE LIKELY HACKED TOO.
Please spread this around—i’m disgusted at the idea that my account is likely being used to scare and hack people. I’m also disgusted that this hack is being used in general. Tumblr isn’t letting me tag people for some reason.
I will make a post on my account verifying i got access back when Tumblr accepts my appeal and fixes my blog. Until I make an official post, do not engage with any DMs from me (@alaskan-wallflower PLEASE DONT REPORT ME THOUGH. Again, I don’t have access to any account right now, but I should regain access whenever tumblr decides to get to my appeal). If you don’t believe that this post is me, you can ask me literally any questions you want. I assure you this is me.
DO NOT REPORT @DAILY-DUCK-PICS. They were hacked too—again, all the hacked accounts are being used to hack other people! So the person who runs that account was most likely scammed too.
EDIT: It seems like Tumblr removed my account. I can’t find it, nor can I find any of my side blogs. I tried entering my old URLs as my URL on this account but it said it was taken, so I think Tumblr just disabled it. Regardless, I don’t know when I’m gonna get my account back, if at all. I’m sorry to anyone who got reached out to on my account. I hope Tumblr can fix this.
