I felt the chilling effect of censorship that could happen the time I learned that Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. or Bongbong won the 2022 Presidential Election. I'm stuck on time. The arms of the clock seem not to move. I didn't feel the touch of the wind and the noise of cars that passed by our house.

And today, I find the strength to continue the thing that I'm passionate about, to fight for the advancement of free expression, religion, thought, and press. At this time, another Marcos will sit on the highest governing office: President of the Republic of the Philippines. And since he was once the accomplice to robbing people's money and many disappearances that happened in the Marcos Sr. regime. It is most likely to happen that he would ban the books that attack and challenges their family.

Risa Hontiveros, the Anti-Misogynist Misogynist

Risa Hontiveros made a law that would punish any person that would express misogynistic comments and acts against women—The Safe Spaces Act. The downside of the law is it also propagates misogynistic thought because it calls that women can't defend themselves against people or specifically men that would belittle and downgrade the value of women through speech and expression.

"Misogynistic remarks or slurs- statements that are indicative of the feeling of hating women or the belief that men are inherently better than women."1 So, by that definition, it is belittling women. No such law protects men from misandrist's speech and expression. So men are better than women because they can handle criticisms and misandry?

Civil Disobedience Against Marcos Jr.

If Bongbong Marcos becomes a tyrant, I'm willing to disobey civilly the laws that violate my conscience. The tyranny of the majority can elect a dictator, but it's still up to the individual to rise against tyranny. The power is in our hands! It's in our hands to tell the tyrant government, "Touch me not!" What happened today is not the end of our fight! This event is the beginning of our vigilance and our time to fight for what we believe is good, and that is the government should not infringe and touch our rights!

What did Maria Ressa get wrong with free expression and distribution?

Maria Ressa said in her Senate speech that the problem is the freedom of distribution and not of speech to stop trolls. The freedom to distribute is the right that the platforms are now abusing. And her suggestion is to legislate a law that would control the algorithms to combat disinformation peddlers. When we look at the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 19, free expression means the freedom to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas without interference. How can you seek, receive, and impart if the State can interfere with your distribution of information and ideas? If the State can control the distribution of information, data, knowledge and ideas and takedown them, this would become compelled listening as the people will only listen to what the State wants them to hear. And that is against human rights! There would be no critical thinking because the State can control what people can use to compare those things the State gave to them. If they want to combat disinformation, then teach people how to think and not what to think and to listen!

The investigative journalist Raissa Robles got a friendly fire from Darren Espanto for fact-checking her tweet that the Filipino singer is a member of Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ). What on Earth that Raissa Robles is an investigative journalist and didn't research about what she's going to post? Darren Espanto become an independent fact-checker!

A: What is free expression?

B: Free expression is when you're free to speak what you want to say to other people even if it is offensive. And advocating it requires you to defend the people that's propagating the idea that you hate for them to speak their mind and for you to have a discussion.
