we got that power
this is LITERALLY the funniest promotional piece that anyone has ever made for a tv show or movie ever
6 years later and avatar (the james cameron movie) is still completely incomprehensible to me. like you’ve got the highest grossing film in recent history and no one actually enjoyed it beyond “eh. it was okay”
Avatar is such a weird anomaly. It’s the highest grossing film EVER (not adjusting for inflation) by a huge margin and yet it left virtually no footprint on popular culture. It had its 15 minutes of fame to the tune of $2.7 billion dollars worldwide, and within a few years it’s like no one remembers it even existed. You only ever really see it mentioned these days in the context of its record-breaking box office.
nope, can’t do it

NCT_OFFICIAL_JP: <‘NEO CITY : JAPAN – The Origin’> Memories#35 in Hokkaido Johnny and Doyoung, who wanted to record in the middle of the snow, went to a snow mountain. Johnny, the cameraman, left his jacket on the car cause he wanted to be able to move freely but was surprised by how cold it was. When the recording finished, he was warmed himself up with a hot coffee. (1, 2, 3, 4)

honey bee body language guide
a quick reference for understanding honey bees !!!
🐝 approaching you
🌱 they want to know if you’re a flower, a threat, or neither ! don’t swat or get too close to their hive, and you’re not a threat.
🐝 landing on you (often you can see her cleaning herself, if you watch carefully)
🌱 she’s either tired or, on the rare occasion, deciding to sting you. don’t squish her !!! she’s probably just chillin with you, but if you want her off, blow her off. she’ll fall and fly away !
🐝 buzzing becomes high pitched
🌱 think angry bees in a cartoon. you can actually hear the change ! this means they’re getting agitated
🐝 circling your head
🌱 this is a warning that you’re being threatening and you need to leave ! calmly move away from the hive or the bee.
🐝 if you’re close to the hive: sending significantly more bees into the air
🌱 usually means they either want to know what’s happening or there’s a threat to the hive ! you should probably leave.
🐝 divebombing you in a headbutt, bouncing off
🌱 this is the most explicit “if you do not leave, i will sting you” that honey bees have. it’s the last warning !
💞some extras !💞
🐝 laying on the sidewalk
🌱 if she’s alive, she’s either resting or in trouble. she could be diseased or usually, in winter, too cold. some folks feed them honey or sugar water ! i’ve had a few good experiences in just letting them sit on my hand and warm up for a while before she flies off. if not, i leave her somewhere she won’t be stepped on. if you’re afraid to touch a bee but still wanna help, try getting her somewhere safer with a leaf or something ! if it doesn’t work, don’t feel too guilty. they’re like cells in an organism, some are always going to be dying as new ones are being born.
🐝 a BUNCH of bees clumped onto something or flying in a slow cloud
🌱 more than likely a swarm ! bees “swarm” when their hive is big and healthy enough to branch off into two hives, or when they’re moving houses ! you’ll never find a honey bee in a better mood than when they’re swarming. observe them from a safe distance, it’s super cool !
🐝 moving her front legs from her mouth over her face
🌱 she’s cleaning herself ! just like how cats do !
🐝 moving a leg from her mouth to her rear leg
🌱 she’s packing pollen ! she wets it with her mouth and then packs it into her pollen sac, which is basically just hairs on her leg shaped into a basket ! that’s why you see the yellow / orange dots on their back legs. they’re bringing it back to the hive !
🐝 dragging another bee out of the hive
🌱 they’re either moving a corpse or a diseased or malformed bee that will die soon. think of it like your body flushing out bad stuff– the bees are like cells of an organism, working toward the whole.
🐝 standing away from her hive on the landing pad, beating her wings
🌱 she’s fanning the hive !! this keeps the brood and honey at a safe temperature.
💞 feel free to add on or ask about more !! 💞
the way that straight men talk about their attraction to women’s bodies is so dull and colourless compared to the ways I’ve seen queer women talk about women’s bodies
like we out here talking bout
razor sharp jawlines like the kind you could fuckin cut yourself on hoo baby
those biceps like gimme that dumb jock energy, that “I can carry you from the doorway to the bed in one go easy” energy christ
muscular bACKS HOLY SHIT OOOO LORDY LORD
hands. just have you ever heard a gay woman talk about hands? like fuckin hell I’ve seen people go nuts over Katie McGrath’s wrists that’s the level we’re at here
hair!!!! long, short, loose, styled!!!!! that specific moment when someone goes to tie their hair back into like a messy bun or a half pony and they hold the elastic band in their mouth and pull their hair back in their hands THATS A WLW KINK RIGHT THERE
eeeeeeeyes. The first three girls I got with all had gorgeous eyes and all commented on my eyes like this is a whole thing it’s our sneaky way of forcing eye contact is to just be like “woah your eyes are gorgeous what colour even are they” and BOOM we have contact this is a-happening
abs sjsjdbfhekakdufurbnsnadjfifnns
I once saw a girl with a six pack and couldn’t form a sentence for the next minute
etc etc (don’t even get me started on forearms aaaaa)
whereas whenever I talk to straight dudes about women they like it’s always like hahahahaha her tits are banging amirite and I’m like
guys
liberate yourselves
let yourselves talk about a gal’s popping collarbone once in a while like Christ there are so many gorgeous things to focus on in women get creative go fuckin nuts women are absolutely incredible angels I am so gay
😂 I laughed all through this post and then I had a thought.
A full pouty bottom lip? Yeah. 👌
gays will be like be gay do crime but then absolutely lose it when you say no cops at pride
Yeah I think largely there’s different gays saying those different things..
those moments in au fics when you finally figure out how the author is reinterpreting a specific canon event and you basically go ‘oh snap that’s brilliant’ for five minutes straight
Researchers have used Easter Island Moai replicas to show how they might have been “walked” to where they are displayed.
VIDEO
Finally. People need to realize aliens aren’t the answer for everything (when they use it to erase poc civilizations and how smart they were)
(via TumbleOn)
What’s really wild is that the native people literally told the Europeans “they walked” when asked how the statues were moved. The Europeans were like “lol these backwards heathens and their fairy tales guess it’s gonna always be a mystery!”
Maori told Europeans that kiore were native rats and no one believed them until DNA tests proved it
And the Iroquois told Europeans that squirels showed them how to tap maple syrup and no one believed them until they caught it on video
Oral history from various First Nations tribes in the Pacific Northwest contained stories about a massive earthquake/tsunami hitting the coast, but no one listened to them until scientists discovered physical evidence of quakes from the Cascadia fault line.
Roopkund Lake AKA “Skeleton Lake” in the Himalayas in India is eerie because it was discovered with hundreds of skeletal remains and for the life of them researchers couldn’t figure out what it was that killed them. For decades the “mystery” went unsolved.
Until they finally payed closer attention to local songs and legend that all essentially said “Yah the Goddess Nanda Devi got mad and sent huge heave stones down to kill them”. That was consistent with huge contusions found all on their neck and shoulders and the weather patterns of the area, which are prone to huge & inevitably deadly goddamn hailstones. https://www.facebook.com/atlasobscura/videos/10154065247212728/
Literally these legends were past down for over a thousand years and it still took researched 50 to “figure out” the “mystery”. 🙄
Adding to this, the Inuit communities in Nunavut KNEW where both the wrecks of the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were literally the entire time but Europeans/white people didn’t even bother consulting them about either ship until like…last year.
“Inuit traditional knowledge was critical to the discovery of both ships, she pointed out, offering the Canadian government a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when Inuit voices are included in the process.
In contrast, the tragic fate of the 129 men on the Franklin expedition hints at the high cost of marginalising those who best know the area and its history.
“If Inuit had been consulted 200 years ago and asked for their traditional knowledge – this is our backyard – those two wrecks would have been found, lives would have been saved. I’m confident of that,” she said. “But they believed their civilization was superior and that was their undoing.”
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/sep/16/inuit-canada-britain-shipwreck-hms-terror-nunavut
“Oh yeah, I heard a lot of stories about Terror, the ships, but I guess Parks Canada don’t listen to people,” Kogvik said. “They just ignore Inuit stories about the Terror ship.”
Schimnowski said the crew had also heard stories about people on the land seeing the silhouette of a masted ship at sunset.
“The community knew about this for many, many years. It’s hard for people to stop and actually listen … especially people from the South.”

Indigenous Australians have had stories about giant kangaroos and wombats for thousands of years, and European settlers just kinda assumed they were myths. Cut to more recently when evidence of megafauna was discovered, giant versions of Australian animals that died out 41 000 years ago.
Similarly, scientists have been stumped about how native Palm trees got to a valley in the middle of Australia, and it wasn’t until a few years ago that someone did DNA testing and concluded that seeds had been carried there from the north around 30 000 years ago… aaand someone pointed out that Indigenous people have had stories about gods from the north carrying the seeds to a valley in the central desert.
oh man let me tell you about Indigenous Australian myths - the framework they use (with multi-generational checking that’s unique on the planet, meaning there’s no drifting or mutation of the story, seriously they are hardcore about maintaining integrity) means that we literally have multiple first-hand accounts of life and the ecosystem before the end of the last ice age
it’s literally the oldest accurate oral history of the world.
Now consider this: most people consider the start of recorded history to be with the Sumerians and the Early Dynastic period of the Egyptians. So around 3500 BCE, or five and a half thousand years ago These highly accurate Aboriginal oral histories originate from twenty thousand years ago at least
Ain’t it amazing what white people consider history and what they don’t?
I always said disservice is done to oral traditions and myth when you take them literally. Ancient people were not stupid.
can we get a sauce for these oral histories? I’d rly like to know what life was like back then
I wish i could find this one article written in I believe the 90’s that went under the radar on abortion. The author said that the “life” arguments are basically useless on either side and what actually matters is that humans shouldn’t have a right to use other human bodies as a resource without consent no matter how alive or sentient they are, even if they’re on the brink of death you have the right to deny them access to you. It probably was too radical for pro-choice activists back in those days but like…that’s the most robust arguement lol so we need 2 being that back and dead the pontifications and splitting hairs about “life” in my honest onion
I found it. Actually, it was written in the 70’s. She was way ahead of the curve.
The article is ‘A Defense of Abortion’ by Judith Jarvis Thomson. Essential reading!

If you cannot demand that a person donate their organs to keep you alive, you have no right to legislate that an embryo gets to use a woman’s body to keep itself alive without the woman’s consent.
how do I find a fic that’s exactly like the one I’ve just read but also different
^^^reasons why writers shouldn’t be worried about using the same tropes/concept/plot that’s been done before
watching spy kids: island of lost dreams aka the single most ambitious and masterful piece of modern american cinema ever created
holy shit the creature designs in this movie were NEXT FUCKING LEVEL
spy kids 2:
me, approximately age 9:
“do you think god stays in heaven because he, too, lives in fear of what he’s created?” is probably THE hardest line of dialogue ever spoken in the history of modern film and people regularly search google for its origin just to find out steve buscemi said it in a movie about adolescent spies from 2002
