Ever get the feeling you're being watched ? For an article in the Financial Times on the internet of things.
Stoke Newington, N16
After a recent trip to the South of France. We passed through a small, pretty nondescript town called Amplepuis. As is often the way in August around midday everything was shut. Probably shut all the time now as supermarkets take over and village commerce shuts down. There's a saying in France that talks of towns with nothing and nobody in them. ' Il n'y a pas un chat' basically 'There's not even a cat' describing how empty the place. I drew an empty shop and wondered what it once was. It didn't have a sign. I invented it as a Traiteur which Is an old term for a delicatessen. There wasn't a cat but I took the liberty of adding one anyway. With a little help from the Edward Muybridge and his 19th Century explorations into early film and motion.
