JUSTICE FOR CASEY GOODSON

On December 4th, 2020, Casey Christian Goodson Jr. (23 years old) was shot three times in the back and murdered by a Sheriff’s Deputy as he was entering his home in Columbus, Ohio. Goodson’s family stated that he was returning home from a dentist appointment, holding a Subway sandwich, his face mask, and his keys, when he was shot.

Two days later, the Columbus Police Department made a statement alleging that James Meade, the deputy responsible for Goodson’s death, saw a man believed to be Goodson with a gun while driving. Meade then approached Goodson after he exited his car and walked home, where he was shot.

Hours after the shooting, the US Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, Peter Tobin, confirmed that Goodson was not the fugitive they were searching for. However, Tobin also added that he believed that the shooting was justified, claiming that Goodson was shot after he refused to drop his “weapon.”

Yet another Black man murdered by the police.

i think it’s hard to truly grasp how bad and unchecked the pandemic currently is in the states unless you are here right now

i can’t speak for others but as i’m typing this i personally know five people who not only have covid but are symptomatic. 2-4 of them will probably be in the hospital by the end of the week if their condition doesn’t improve. all of them got it at small gatherings of under ten people from someone who was asymptomatic. i know a dozen more who are waiting for test results to come back because they were exposed. a million people tested positive in the last week alone. that’s 1 in 328 people. just last week. multiple states have already reported running out of ICU beds. the senate republicans are blocking any and all covid relief. trump is blocking biden from beginning the transition. fox and facebook continue to push and amplify conspiracies and deadly misinfo about simple things like masks. we still don’t have a national mask mandate let alone any plan to lockdown. and in all of it i keep reminding myself that i’m incredibly lucky that those five are the extent of the spread in my life. for now.

Please there is a reason that it's called the land of 10,000 lakes. There are MORE than 10,000 lakes and its the SOURCE of the Mississippi River and many others pass through or merge into others. We are almost entirely water and high water tables. This could poison the majority of the American waterways. This is one of the worst places a spill could happen. They are gearing up hired guns to fight potential water protectors already. Things will be far worse than the Dakota access pipeline. Please help.

I don’t study genocides war crimes and human rights for fun. I study it bc my people have been at the foot from the very first genocide of the 20th century and previous attempts to exterminate my entire race. The fact that no one is speaking up when another genocide is at the brink of occurring to the ethnic Armenians living in Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) is mind blowing. I have to say I’m not surprised by the lack of effort - Americans, especially, are the most self interested humans I’ve met. This isn’t about narrative, this is about rapid belligerent individualism. We can philosophize all day about it but at the end - people don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves. There is rarely any altruism left in this world. If November 4 brings mass protests across the country, staying home won’t necessarily protect you. A single can of tear gas can spread a full quarter mile. Portlanders are regularly tear-gassed by police in their own homes. One man who fled his home to escape a choking cloud of gas was beaten so badly by a Portland police officer that he received a concussion. One of the most haunting recordings of the entire year is this mother begging to the police, “Our babies sleep here, they don’t have masks.” (source)

can’t emphasize enough how important buying a gas mask is for anyone who lives in an urban area and/or plans to attend protests in the future of any kind. tear gas and smoke grenades can get into your house and car, and they can seriously fuck you up even from what might feel like a safe distance. check out parcil distribution for reasonably affordable gas masks that ship very quickly.

uline is another option for extremely prompt respirator shipping! gas masks are very expensive and respirators are much cheaper, but make sure you get cartridges with both a p100 particle filter plus either an organic or multigas filter (the 3m dual cartridges are pink and chunky). if you get a respirator you also need to get sealed, non-vented safety goggles with a fine particle rating and preferably also an impact protection rating, to keep the gas out of your eyes as well as your lungs. also test them out before you actually need to use them.

if you are worried about tear gas getting into your home, close all windows and roll up damp towels and put them under your doors beforehand. if tear gas actually does get in your home, put any pets in the bathroom with a warm shower running and another damp towel in front of the door. unfortunately very small children and infants can’t wear gas masks & need an expensive gas hood called a bardas system. if you don’t have one, stay in the bathroom with them. remember that tear gas is painful but temporary.

if your home does get tear gassed, shower as soon as possible and thoroughly rinse your yard and clean all home surfaces the day after.

a gas mask or a respirator + goggles is a really really good investment at this point in time.

The current reservation is the Colville Confederated Tribe reservation which is a conglomerate of TWELVE tribes. (This alone is a disgusting violation of so many treaties and some day I'll have words about what it did to my family) More importantly right now is that the Wenatchi is a non-federally recognized tribe!!! This has many implications for the preservation of their culture but also limits their access to the resources both monetarily AND on the the lands they had treaty rights to that are part of their ancestral lands. This land purchase would put many Wenatchi people back on their ancestral lands and also funds a community center so their tribe has space to practice heal and grow their community and culture.
