Alex Manes Appreciation Week (5/5)
Michael hated everything about this.
He hated watching Alex push himself out of bed at an ungodly hour Friday morning, ridiculously assuming that he would be making the drive to Texas on his own. He hated watching Alex walk into a flower shop on the way and buy a bouquet of wildflowers (“Scott’s favorite,” he said) and unwilling to let them go for the rest of the way. He hated watching Alex come to a gravesite where a blonde woman Michael didn’t know—Scott’s younger sister, Katie, he would later find out—jumped into his arms, her face streaked with tears.
“Where’s Hannah?”
“She’s on her way,” Katie said, clinging to Alex’s side. “Grandma called, I left while they were still talking.”
Michael hated watching Alex with these people he didn’t know, from a world he’d never been part of, smiling at Alex like he was a son that Roswell had stolen away. Michael hated it worse that standing back and watching was all he could do. Alex didn’t need him here, he’d come for his own sake, he’d known that. And yet knowing it and seeing it were two completely different things.
So caught up in how much he felt like an outsider, Michael almost missed Alex introducing him. “This is my husband, Michael Guerin.”
“Hi,” Katie smiled warmly. “I’m Katie Mason.”
“Oh, Alex, he’s gorgeous,” Hannah, Scott’s mother, told Alex, and in their kindness, Michael could see why Alex had warmed up to the family so quickly. They treated him the way his own family always should’ve and never had. And Michael hadn’t even known that they existed until a few days ago.
But he smiled and he was polite and rubbed Alex’s back as he silently cried at Scott’s gravestone through a clenched jaw.
It wasn’t until Alex bid them a fond goodbye and they were back in Michael’s truck on their way home that Michael shook his head and said, “I don’t deserve you.”
“Hm?” Alex blinked. “What?”
“You have this whole other life you could’ve escaped to,” Michael said, “and you stayed in Roswell to fight a battle that wasn’t even yours. Why?”
Alex seemed to understand right away, and hummed, rested his head back against the headrest. “I love you. Where else would I be?”
“Alex, you had a real family.”
“You’re my real family,” Alex said, offended that Michael could imply anything else. “And—and so is Kyle, and Isobel, and Max, and Dallas, and Liz, and my brothers—I have a family in Roswell.”
“But . . .” he swallowed. “These people . . .”
Alex’s eyes softened. “Guerin, my men and their families . . . they’re just part of my life. Not all of it. I told you, you’re my everything, no one else.”
Michael exhaled shakily, not knowing how afraid he’d been that Alex would agree that he deserved better until he refused it. “You sure you won’t wish you’d married someone else?”
Alex chuckled and took Michael’s hand in both of his own. “I think even Scott would’ve said that I was ruined for anyone but you.”
Michael squeezed his hand tighter at the mention of his army buddy, and he said, “I’m sorry about your friend.”
A pause. “Me, too.”
Neither of them said nothing for a long time, Michael’s hand clasped between Alex’s, and then finally Michael said, “Okay, Private, we’ve got a long drive back to New Mexico, so would you please get some sleep now?” Silence. “Alex?”
Michael looked over and his lips quirked. Curled up on his seat, Alex lay there fast asleep, his expression one of a peace he hadn’t known in too long. Michael used his powers to lean the seat back, but Alex’s grip on his hand never loosened, like even in sleep he needed Michael close.
“I know how that feels, baby,” Michael murmured, smiling against Alex’s brow before he pressed a soft kiss there. “I know.”

I don't know where to start. Most people have gone inactive since the show ended, and it breaks my heart to go onto tumblr and rarely see an update in the tags anymore. I kind of saw it coming because even during hiatuses, the fandom turned really quiet, so this just makes a grim sort of sense.
Personally, I hope I never stop writing malex. I hope I'm posting fics on malex Monday years from now, I hope new projects keep coming, and until no one is reading anymore, I hope I don't stop. I understand others not finding the point, but I physically and emotionally need Alex Manes and malex, and I can't give them up. If I can last a year-long hiatus, I should be able to do this, right? At least for a little longer. And at least for my favorite airman.
So my beautiful Alex Manes, my magical Tyler Blackburn, my love, this is all for you ❤

Alex Manes Appreciation Week (4/5)
Enough was enough.
Alex was in a constant limbo state of not being able to fall asleep, but not being able to do anything else either because of the sheer exhaustion. It was a bad cycle that was making him sick, and whether Friday was tomorrow or not didn’t matter; Michael was determined on putting him to sleep, at least for a few hours.
So one day, he came into their bedroom to find Alex limp in bed, his eyes open a sliver as he tried to distract himself with something on his phone. The dark circles under his eyes had turned black, his cheeks were hollowed out from the lack of food, and even his voice couldn’t reach over a whisper when Michael plucked his phone out of his hands and he asked, “What’re you doing?”
Michael cupped his jaw as he gently moved him onto his back. “Wearing you out.”
Alex’s brows only pinched before Michael tugged at his waistband and he seemed to understand.
“Guerin,” he caught his shoulder, shaking his head, “this isn’t going to work.”
Michael stripped himself bare and Alex’s eyes darkened at the sight of him, as Michael hoped they would. He pushed Alex’s shirt up to his nipples and his pants just low enough to reveal his cock, and without a word, he brought his head down between Alex’s hips and took him into his mouth.
Alex hissed, and Michael clutched his ass. This, he had to admit, wasn’t entirely for Alex’s sake. It had been over a week since they’d slept together and his need for his husband was indescribable. But if what he did helped let Alex rest for just a while, then he was happy to do what it took.
Michael’s head bobbed as he took him all the way, savoring the taste of him. How he missed this, the touch of Alex’s skin against his own, the sound of his moans, the way he breathed Michael’s name like it was the only word he knew.
Michael pulled off with his tongue hanging out, and moved to hover over Alex, their hard lengths brushing and making them both groan into each other’s mouths. Michael reached a hand down and aligned himself to Alex’s hole.
“G-Guerin . . .” Alex’s eyes fluttered as Michael pulled his arms up around his neck.
“Hold onto me,” Michael whispered against his lips, and Alex arched into him, wrapping his arms tight around him.
Alex’s mouth fell open as Michael entered him, and soon just their grunts and moans and pleas were the only sounds in the room. Michael hooked Alex’s leg higher, thrusting into him, their wet thighs slapping together and fueling the fire in Michael’s gut.
“Guerin,” Alex gasped, slipping his hands into Michael’s curls and tugging on the roots. “I-I’m going to—”
“I know,” Michael grunted. “M-Me, too.”
Alex came with Michael following a few seconds later, their voices muffled against the other’s neck. Michael collapsed on top of him for just a moment before he pushed himself up to grab a wet towel, and cleaned them both off. Alex whimpered faintly at the touch of the warm water, and after disposing of the towel, Michael returned to lay down on his back next to him, his chest heaving.
He looked to Alex and found his eyes closed, his kiss-swollen lips pursed as his breaths slowly deepened. Michael reached over and brushed a thumb across his lower lip, and Alex’s lips quirked in a small smile, his first in days.
“You feel like falling asleep yet?”
“I can try,” Alex chuckled. “I still don’t think it’ll work though.”
Michael’s smile dimmed. “Damn. I really thought that would do it.”
Alex looked over at him with a soft look in his eyes and then turned into him, curling deep into his side. “I do feel better,” he said, running a hand down from Michael’s chest to his stomach and back up again. “Thanks to you.”
Michael hugged Alex’s shoulders and kissed the top of his head. Tomorrow, he thought bitterly, can’t be over soon enough.
“Good,” he said, knowing that it wasn’t enough and not knowing what more to do for his husband. “That’s good.”

Alex Manes Week 2023: Songs (or poems) for Alex
Alex Manes Appreciation Week (3/5)
Friday was coming up, and Alex had officially stopped eating. Though certainly not for a lack of trying.
“Please, baby, just one more bite,” Michael tried, encouraging the fork up to Alex’s lips.
Alex’s eyes fluttered wearily and he closed his mouth around the slice of meat. He looked like he was in pain, chewing slowly before forcing himself to swallow and dropping the fork.
“I can’t anymore,” he murmured and slid off the stool. Michael watched with a heavy heart as Alex trudged out of the kitchen, like every inch of him was weighed down by exhaustion and nausea. He tapped his finger on his plate, wondering whether he should follow or not, and in the end decided it didn’t matter what Alex would’ve preferred because if he stayed away any longer, he would crawl out of his own skin.
He found his husband in their bedroom, too tired these days to do anything more than lie curled up on his side in bed. When he saw Michael, he slowly turned over so that his back was to the door, and Michael climbed into bed behind him, pressing his chest to Alex’s back and wrapping an arm around his waist.
“It’s almost over,” Michael whispered against the shell of Alex’s ear.
“Not yet,” Alex heaved a long, shaky sigh. “It’s okay. I can keep going a little longer.”
“I know,” Michael told him, and tightened his grip on him, keeping them pressed unbearably close. Alex covered his hand on his stomach with his own.
“Don’t go anywhere,” he whispered, and Michael pressed his face into the crook of his neck.
“I won’t.”

Alex’s sleeping patterns weren’t getting any better. Michael was used to waking alone some nights, but it was starting to feel like days since he’d had Alex in his arms, and it was starting to show on Alex’s face, too.
“Those dark circles are getting worse,” Michael murmured one late morning, brushing a thumb under Alex’s eye, and sighed, “Are you getting any sleep lately?”
“I’m fine,” Alex insisted, kissed the back of Michael’s hand, and let it fall. “I’ve got to go, I’m going to be late.”
“Alex,” Michael followed him to the door, exasperated, “can’t you take today off? You’re exhausted, you need to rest!”
“Guerin, I told you I can handle it.”
“Damn it, Manes!” Michael blocked the door. “Would you stop for a second and listen to me?”
Alex’s shoulders fell and he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Guerin—”
“Look at yourself,” he demanded. “You’ve been wearing your prosthetic for days, you can barely stand longer than a few minutes at a time, you haven’t gotten any shuteye—”
“And I’m not going to,” Alex cut in gently. “Listen, I get that you’re worried about me and you love me, but pushing is not going to make a difference. Not now.”
“Why?” Michael faltered. “What’s so special about now?”
Alex licked his lips and shut his eyes, turning away. Michael followed him into the living room where he set his duffel bag by the foot of the couch and sat down, dropping his head into his hands and heaving a sigh.
“Alex?” Michael’s concern was mounting in his chest and he sat down next to his husband, hesitating for just a second before putting a hand between his shoulder blades. “Talk to me, baby. What’s going on?”
Alex picked his head up, but his expression was numb. His thumbs carved into the backs of his hands as he interlocked his fingers.
Finally, he said, “I had this friend, back in my Air Force days. Well . . . friend might be too small a word.”
The implication was clear, and Michael’s hand paused only for a split second before he continued rubbing.
“Okay,” he said softly, encouraging.
“His name was Scott Mason,” Alex went on. “I would’ve given up in base training if it wasn’t for him, Guerin. We helped each other, looked after each other . . . he made me realize that there were more important things than winning, but he never let me lose either. When I left the Air Force, he said it’d lost its appeal and that he was coming home, too. Except about a week before . . .”
He trailed off and ran a hand through his hair. “His death anniversary’s this Friday, and I always”—he cleared his throat—“I always get like this around the day, and I—I make up for the sleep later, that’s why I know I can handle it. Because I always do.”
But Michael was already pulling him in against him, one hand in his hair and the other gripping his arm tightly. He pressed his lips to Alex’s forehead hard as unwanted images flashed in his mind. If it had been Alex who’d been lost to him a week before he was supposed to come to Roswell, the idea of Alex’s death anniversary. What Michael would’ve been like and what he’d done around a day like that. His grip turned to vice, and Alex chuckled against his neck.
“I’m right here, baby. I’m safe.”
Michael swallowed. “Sometimes I forget that you had this whole other life away from me. If . . . if I’d lost you—”
“But you didn’t,” Alex said soothingly, putting a hand on Michael’s chest as if to calm his heart racing. “I’m right here. And I’m going to be fine, I promise. I just have to get through the day.”
“I know,” he said, and shut his eyes when Alex’s arms came around his waist to hug him back.
A long several minutes passed, then Alex asked—
“Are you planning to let me go any time soon?”
“No.”
“Got it.”

@alexmanesappreciation Day 2: What I wish for Alex (Manes-Guerin)
I wish Alex (and Michael) would leave Roswell for good, adopt a couple of kids, and that Alex would go to therapy (his suicidal ideation hurts my heart).
