Me walking away from my problems
Reblogging again because this video broke me
Just found out the guy who dug out the Ever Given felt personally offended by the memes, and pushed himself to work 5 consecutive 21 hour days "to prove he could dig the ship out." And now, predictably, he's not being paid for it. Hey, don't ever do this my dudes. This here is a man who conflated his job with his identity and ego, worked himself too hard for an employer who only cares about profit margins, and then was surprised when capitalism did not prove to be a meritocracy. Capitalism has never been a meritocracy. There is no reason to assume your hard work will lead to proportional pay outs of any kind, beyond the old legend of "hard work and a nickel" the currently rich and powerful spin to keep us overworked, underpaid, and thinking we don't deserve more for lacking "hustle."
I feel for this worker, I really do, but this is exactly why getting personally worked up over your job is a death sentence. Clock in and clock out. The bottom line is to make sure you and your coworkers are always getting yours, not that your company has the widest profit margins, the most efficient service, the most prestige, etc. This man is not receiving what he was promised let alone what he deserved for his labour. This is common, we all know someone with a "they wouldn't give me my overtime/paid me for less hours so I quit" story. All of that prestige and profit goes to your company, the execs, the board, and it does not fucking trickle down to you. No one is thinking "wow this guy worked at McDonalds? He must be a quick learner in a fast paced environment who can work efficiently, after all he and millions of other workers have contributed to the great name of this famous company" despite the fact that those things are very likely true. You're on your fucking own when you leave the company - heck, you're on your own when you're WITH the company, they are after all likely the other party in your conflict.
Yeah, the shit these companies pull make me sick, but please don't ever be this guy. Don't bootlick so hard you break your back. You have inherent worth, fuck your job.
so the "dont tread on me" flags come out bc of the mask mandate but not bc of police brutality or bc of capitalism controlling our lives. cool
jeff bezos divorced...bill gates divorced...i'm sensing a trend here
they hate unions
Say it with me folks:
āEat the richā means 1%ers and billionaires
middle class is closer to poverty than being a multimillionaire
āThe richā does NOT include children of billionaires (come on weāre at least slightly better than the plagues of Egypt)
Upper middle class children SHOULD NOT feel guilt over having money
Being aware of privilege and using your privilege to help others IS NOT a guilt trip
Constantly feeling guilty helps no one
Billionaires, however, should feel guilty over hoarding wealth.
Upper middle class is NOT rich
Black Lives Matter
Trans rights are human rights
My uncle was one of the top surgeons in the country. He was upper middle class definitely. When he got cancer, his insurance didnāt cover all the treatments he would need and after 5 years he drained his savings on cancer treatments (while still working most of that time) and eventually died because he couldnāt afford the expensive treatments that might have saved him.
If you are upper middle class and you get sick, it will likely bankrupt your family. Itās fucked.
For all of the idiots in the notes ^
Honest to god - even if you make 6 figures a year? you're closer to poverty than true wealth. Check your shit and remember who your real allies and enemies are guys.
A 6 figure income is a lot right? Thatās say: 223,000 dollars a year Which is 112 dollars an hour. Most people would consider that upper middle class. Thatās enough money to have a nice house, go on fun vacations. Thatās slight more than the average doctor makes.
223,000 dollars is what Jeff Bezo makes in a minute
the well-off and the rich are not the same.Ā
working full time is terrible why do we just accept that having 8 days off a month is normal and okay........ being alive could be cool but we waste it at our JOBS.... sorry iām just heated about capitalism again iāll be fine
8 days....never thought about it like that š
This seems really whiny to me. Like, I agree with you, work sucks, but our ancestors didnāt get to browse tumblr at their desks or have the option to gleefully spend their ENTIRE WEEKENDS horizontal on the couch stuffing their faces/watching tv/playing video games/wacking off.Ā They didnāt have weekends. They just slaved away as fucking peasants from dawn to dusk until they died in childbirth or got the consumption.
I am perfectly happy working 8 hrs a day because I donāt have to:
grow my own food
find my own clean water
heat my house
shit in the woods
Hi, I study social and cultural anthropology. Humans working 40+ hours a week is 100% an industrial revolution thing and was not normal in the early stages of our existence. In fact, hunter and gatherer societies that still exist to this day spend about 15-20 hours a week TOPS working. The rest is dedicated to sitting around and telling stories and jokes, dancing, singing, eating, sleeping, fucking and so forth. Read a damn book.
Medieval peasants lived grueling, terrible lives. But their vacation days beat out the policies now common even in progressive societies.
š¤š¬š”
When the medieval peasant - the iconic, screwed over, worst off person of pop culture - had more days and time off than you, somethingās gone wrong. And apparently something has been wrong for a while now...
Itās so crazy how humans r social creatures but weāre stuck in this hell hole of late stage capitalism that convinces us we can not only heal in isolation but thrive in it too, find purpose and dedication and make a lifestyle out of it, and only at the end of that tiresome road can we reward ourselves by leaving desolation behind and replacing it with community when the whole time itās always companionship and love and understanding that we need, itās always someone we can share with to know we are not alone in this place and this pain...
Basically, yeah.
Hi please dont hide these in the tags
I litterally can not stress enough what a piece of shit Reagan was. Iām also sad that as much as he gets the hate he deserves here, I was surprised to see when ātop 5 worst presidentsā trended on Twitter no one was listing him. We got work to do, and that to make more people aware of how much all of this *gestures wildly* can be traced back to Reagan.
Look I lived thru the 80s, Regan isnāt getting enough hate for just how much he pretty much fucked this country over.
COVID is slowly becoming a "third world" disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can't get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.
Watch also when some first world countries finish vaccinating their populations, they will turn to third world countries and "donate" or sell surplus vaccines. People in these countries will go "Oh how sweet! The government is donating vaccines to the poorer countries <3" when it was their hoarding that led to many, many third world citizens dying before they could even get vaccinated in the first place.

anyone else wanna hug astronaut Reid Wiseman and weep?
The two most common insulin products are Novo Nordiskās Novolin and Eli Lillyās Humulin. The main COVID vaccine providers are Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson and Johnson, and AstraZeneca. So, same people? Nope. Iām not saying these companies have never done anything wrong, but use factual examples.
2016-Ā Pfizer was fined $106M for aĀ 2600% price hike on its epilepsy drug.
2019-Ā J&JĀ increased most of its drug prices by ~7% (Inflation was ~1.8%).
2020-Ā AstrazenecaĀ hiked prices on its popular drugs by up to 6% (Inflation was ~1%). The company then made a second round of increases after it secured a $1.2B from the U.S. for vaccine development. Astrazeneca made over $3.6B in profit in the first half of 2020.
2021-Pfizer, Moderna, and J&JĀ are prepared to raise the COVID-19 vaccine price after the pandemic is contained in the US. Theyāve only resisted hiking the price now to save face while they are being used in the US. Meanwhile, Pfizer hasnāt given access to its vaccine to over 85% of the world.
The entire pharmaceutical industry is abysmal. Every company has a similar agenda: maximize profit even at the expense of human life
If you think your doctor isnāt listening to you, or is minimising your problems or is just a shit doctor, there is a good chance you are right. Doctors are humans too and sometimes they suck at their jobs. It is ALWAYS ok to get a second opinion. You donāt have to put up with shitty care just because they have a qualification.Ā Ā
