Van Gogh: A record of 10 years Exhibition

"For my part I know nothing with any certainty but the sight of the stars makes me dream"

This exhibition was a combination of technology and van Gogh's masterwork. I must admit I had my doubts of whether the digital displays would do justice to van Gogh's thick application of paint and brush strokes (the "impasto" technique) or the emotive swirls of the sky. Eliminating the technique that draws us to van Gogh's art in the first place is like eliminating the aroma in coffee- i.e. eliminating the essence that makes whatever the experience good. But I've gone to so many van Gogh exhibitions that I was open to any changes and novelty. And as it turns out, I loved the digitalization of van Gogh's works.

The huge bright screens taking up every inch of the wall allowed us to be immersed in van Gogh's world. The room was just so full with color and vibrancy. I especially loved it when about 10-20 of van Gogh's self portraits appeared at once from all quarters. It was like he was checking up on us, seeing if we liked his work. And his forlorn expression definitely helped us to constantly think of the mental and emotional state he was in while painting. I found myself in a light trance the whole time, captivated by the intense yet mesmerizing world of van Gogh.
