Hey, guys. Never had a pinned post or a proper intro until now tbh. But since I started to post more since the last summer, I think at this point i need one just in case.

I'm Naya. 28 y.o., bisexual bigender, she/her and he/him. You can also call me Alisha if you want. My main account for interaction with fandoms is this one, and the others goes by the same nickname as here (ie AlishaRoyal. Royal as colour btw). I only give insta, discord or other ways to contact me personally to mutuals I know long enough and trust to. I might post here about my conditions (hypothalamic syndrom and eating disorder) and open to reminds to tag them if I forgot (unless stated i'm not gonna tag them). IMPORTANT PSA: I'm russian and I'm still living there. I don't think I'll be able to leave it in foreseeable future. Most of the fandom hates Halsin pointing out the inherent violence in Drow society because it's mean to their Tav or whatever. I hate it because I wish it was paired with Halsin absolutely refusing to romance a Lolth-sworn Tav and only being okay with a Seldarine Tav.

YEP cuz I've heard (I'm still new to dnd lore in particular and it's difference with the game's lore) that there's no really such a thing as seldarine drow as it is (pls correct me if I am wrong, genuinely, cuz I still can't figure out to what extent that's real). And so if that's true and larian just came up with that, I wish they'd worked on showing that difference in companions dating preferences too, cuz the amount of depth it'd add would feel cool

I always hate fanfiction versus published works discourse in terms of what is better. In part because I don't think something is inherently good just because a publisher approved of it to make money for their publisher house.

And because there's more variety of quality within fanfiction/published fiction than there is between the two, with each having lots of bottom of the barrel garbage and both having genuinely moving, human stories written competently.

But mostly because... I kinda object to the idea of them being distinct things. Lots of fanfiction is full of wholly original ideas or are written in such an OOC manner that like... those are original characters at that point... or like are so intensely AU that at a certain point even writing in character characters doesn't make it any less original, like lots of people act the same way and share similar backstories... at a certain point lot so of fanfic can be more original than some published fiction

Cause I'd argue... a lot of published original fanfiction... is written with the same goals of fanfiction. Stringing together archetypes and tropes to create something extremely familiar, using the same type of shorthand character types to convey information the way fanfiction does.

I don't think of fanfiction as inherently juvenile or lesser than. I do not think of published or original fiction as inherently good or that original. It's why I never really balked at Real Literature being considered fanfiction because I think a lot of published works ARE effectively fanfiction and that is a neutral thing.

Taking a familiar property and trying to transform it--to comment on it, to criticize it, to eroticize it, to expand on it, to focus on your favorite characters--is what fanfiction is and that's not meaningfully different from loftier words like adaption or retelling.

Most fanfiction is dogshit. Self indulgent, poorly written, whatever. The same is true of original fiction, adaptions, published work, whatever x 2.

Most is dogshit. A lot is great. Fanfiction and published/original works are still both neutral terms. Often with the same goals, using the same techniques and tactics to use the familiar as shorthand, and to the same effect

if somehow I still was publishing my fics on fics sites in current reality and somehow was asked if any of my work is made with ai (which is very possible, considering that I tend to write in long paragraphs and using the closest to book's layouts and punctuation, because I studied book publishing and got used to formate my fics using this knowledge to make it more comfortable for reading), I'd found it so fucking funny. cuz, like, I don't really think any ai ass thing could get this unhinged to make it even close to my style and themes I usually explore in my works

They say that pauses between the notes in the diary shows that you have a life in between, besides the fact that you don't own anyone to write daily if you don't feel like it. But what about huge pauses between the notes because you have no fucking idea how to put whatever shit happened in these days on paper

tbh im not entirely immune to a villain with a tragic backstory but i do think villain origins are a lot more interesting when the focus is less "here is the original sin, the first big bad thing that happened to them that made them who they are" and more "here is the first time a person who maybe otherwise felt powerless in their life realized that they could hurt someone and get away with it"

you can get a lot more mileage out of analyzing a truly abhorrent character through the lens of like. what sort of conditions would allow or even incentivize this kind of cruelty? what kind of person benefits from those conditions and how? over the more typical who hurt them type analysis. imo.
