I want to add one thing to this which is.
"As someone from Maine" creates the rhetorical impression of the value and worth of what a person has to say as directly impacted by this subject.
I find it especially nasty because the real value and worth of a lived experience in this context is of somebody who lives or lived in the areas he was deployed to.
Speaking about the lived reality of Maine again simply reinforces that american lives are worth more than anything else.
