also, one of the exhausting things about discussing domestic violence is that of course so many people can concede lip service that it's "bad" etc. but what's revealing about how little they care, or that they don't prioritize it, or that they really do hold beliefs that women are meant to be abused is that they often are not ready to discuss what is the most common pattern of abuse, and that is escalation. the end point of that escalation is murder. it's like...I'm not going to be cowed into thinking this is an intellectual question, or that I'm just interested in some sort of ideological project. I can look people in the eye and ask them "do you care when women are murdered?" and I don't feel conflicted about it. women are murdered. Women are murdered! when men get away with one punch, they start getting away with two. on and on. I think it's an emergency when women are punched. I don't care what anyone's beliefs are at that point. men are allowed to be our judge, jury, and executioner? at their own whims? why am I supposed to sit comfortably with that.

Objectively, physically, it’s impossible to be “born in the wrong body”. You are your body. It takes having a metaphysical belief system to claim that “you” exist in a nebulous realm somewhere outside and apart from your body, and that this splintered and disembodied “you” was put in the wrong one— as if it’s a vessel, as if you can even apply the concept of “incorrect” to it. Saying your body is “the wrong one” implies that “you” could have been born as a different body and still be “you” at all. If that had happened, it would be somebody else who was born, not you. Your brain and mind are physical parts of your body. If you swapped the body, there goes “you”.

No matter how you look at it, it’s an ideology and a spiritual belief system.

Isn't it interesting how every single one of my friends' boyfriends/husbands has a rare untreatable combination of ADHD, anxiety, autism, and trauma which completely excuse and explain all of his shitty abusive behaviors while simultaneously justifying his refusal to do his own chores??
