the bigger issue is that modern politics is driven by the desire to pwn your opponents rather than actually do anything, and "men can get pregnant actually" is just one step down the line of a bunch of kneejerk escalations ("being gay is ok" "god says being gay is gross" "literally who cares what the bible says" "but marriage is for making families" "men can get pregnant") and you can clearly see where each side lost the plot in favor of dunking on the other team (one side earlier than the other)

so yeah when people say "men can get pregnant" they don't actually mean "men can get pregnant," they mean "i wanna piss off my conservative uncle before he ruins thanksgiving again"

It’s really difficult to discuss anything to do with “trans” when the trans community can’t even agree on what “trans” is.

Some people will say that trans is when somebody suffers from gender dysphoria. Others will say that gender dysphoria isn’t required. Both parties will call each other transphobic for their position.

Some will say that trans is whenever you identify as a gender other than what you were born as. Some say that the trans label should be reserved for those who’ve medically transitioned and should not just be based on identity. Both parties will call each other transphobic for their position.

Then you ask them to define what “gender” is, and everyone will have a different answer. Most of these answers will be steeped in sexist stereotypes. Many answers will contradict others.

How can we discuss this topic and base laws around it, when nobody can even agree on who and what we’re talking about in the first place?

Objectively, physically, it’s impossible to be “born in the wrong body”. You are your body. It takes having a metaphysical belief system to claim that “you” exist in a nebulous realm somewhere outside and apart from your body, and that this splintered and disembodied “you” was put in the wrong one— as if it’s a vessel, as if you can even apply the concept of “incorrect” to it. Saying your body is “the wrong one” implies that “you” could have been born as a different body and still be “you” at all. If that had happened, it would be somebody else who was born, not you. Your brain and mind are physical parts of your body. If you swapped the body, there goes “you”.

No matter how you look at it, it’s an ideology and a spiritual belief system.
