Assuming you're from the US, do you ever feel politically homeless? Democrats as a party seem to be increasingly pro-trans (Biden saying there are at least three genders etc), Republicans are solidly anti-trans but uhh... The Horrors.

i wouldn't quite say politically homeless, like yes both sides have picked trans stuff as a wedge issue (and blamed the other side for using it as a wedge issue) but i'm certainly not gonna start voting republican any time soon over it. like there's a little more to it than "dems are pro-trans, gop is anti-trans" - dems aren't staunchly pro-trans, they're just broadly pro-the current thing. like with your example, yeah the president can say there are three genders, but you can get anyone on the left to go along with any framing of trans identity if you talk long enough. and this has come with material consequence, but nothing irreversible on a policy level (and no one arrested over trans critical tweets) so i don't think it's a lost cause yet

the republicans funny enough are the side that actually treats trans identity as a coherent concept. their concept isn't really grounded in reality and is obviously used as a scare tactic, but it's much less hazily defined than how the dems frame it, and that's how it gets dangerous. like they view trans as super double gay and push legislation accordingly (this is where you get the "they're gonna go after the gays after they wipe out the transes" nonsense from people whose history education began with the obama administration) and that causes real harm

like the nuance is in recognizing how being anti-trans is different from just not taking trans seriously as a concept (which is where i am), and that's much closer to the left's guiding principle of "yeah whatever let them express themselves however they want" than to the right's "electroshock therapy for everyone"

We’re already seeing signs of this, but I believe the trans movement’s downfall will be that it simply became too confusing and too demanding for anyone except hardcore believers to keep up with, and that this happened far too fast. People are exhausted with the endless demands from the trans community, and with how forceful they are about it. People are confused about the whole thing because it’s built on contradictions, individualism, and sexism.
