Why Aren’t We Talking About Joe Pera?

I want to know why the #actuallyautistic community isn’t talking about Joe Pera. We need to talk about Joe Pera and his show, Joe Pera Talks With You. This show is so autistic. I think NTs watch it for cringe humor but I find it charming and heartwarming and my allistic husband cannot understand why for the life of him.  If you don’t know Joe Pera, go look him up instantly. There’s a youtube clip called Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep which gives you a good sample of his style It includes: 1. Sweet thoughts about the universe. 2. Comforting stimmy sounds including crackling fires and whale sounds 3. Comforting stimmy visuals like fireworks  4. An explanation of his special interest in Dutch Barns. 5. Awkward jokes that are adorable. 

6. The line “I owe it to myself not to get upset about barns.”

In his show, Joe Pera Talks With You, an entire episode focuses on his awkwardness after a misunderstanding with the neighbours. 

Another focuses on his new and overwhelming special interest in the song Baba O’Riley and how he just totally SAMESONGS that thing ALL NIGHT LONG while hopping about stimming like crazy.  In another one, a friend has to intervene to stop him from infodumping about the Rats Wars of Alberta, Canada. Joe Pera, as far as I can see, has not come out as autistic but just watch this show. It’s SO sweet and relatable and allistics do not get it and it’s GREAT.

Well, yeah, sometimes if you’re in a state that widely voted for the opposite party and you want to get re-elected, you have to play the middle on some things. That’s just the way the cookie crumbles. Donnelly’s better than his opponent, who would vote with Trump a lot more, and someone further left than Donnelly is unlikely to get elected (because, again, this is a state Trump won by far).

Donnelly’s been ranked the most vulnerable Dem in congress. Lately he’s been working on addressing the opiod crisis and strategizing about North Korea.
