Unfortunately, I'm almost certain Gus is getting traded either this summer or during the next season.

Wally has solidified himself as worthy of being the starting goalie with his playoff performance. The Iowa Wild's goaltending is some of the best in the entire AHL despite the team being kinda bad overall. Gus is only 27 and already somewhat unreliable due to joint issues to the point of needing surgery.

At the same time goaltending is a serious issue for many teams that could otherwise be serious cup contenders in the foreseeable future. Which means that the trade value of someone like Gus, who is an elite goaltender and would be a significant upgrade for many teams is high right now.

Gus' contact could make the difference in regards to having or not having the necessary cap space for the elite center Billy G is certainly after.

As much as I'm emotionally attached to our beautiful swedish goalies, Gus is in an very unfortunate position right now and it would make sense from a management standpoint to trade him in favour of more lineup depth.

(Especially if his surgery recovery takes beyond the start of next season or doesn't go perfectly in general. Only thing saving us then might be Billy G's personal attachment to his players.)
