Woke up at 3 am delirious and extremely thirsty but my water glass was empty so I was like âI know exactly how to fix thisâ So I googled âbig waterâ and in my half asleep state I was certain that would allow me to manifest a large glass of water in reality. Didnât work but now I know thereâs a town in Utah called Big Water.
Lauren McCluskey explained to the officer at the University of Utah that she was being extorted over explicit photos she had taken of herself. Someone â she wasnât certain who at that moment â had accessed her files and was threatening to release them if she didnât hand over $1,000.
Scared by the demand, she paid the money and then sent copies of the messages and the pictures to the campus police department as evidence.
When Miguel Deras, one of the officers assigned to her case, received them, he saved the photos on his personal phone. And days before McCluskey was killed by the man who was blackmailing her, Deras showed off at least one of the images to a male co-worker and bragged about getting to look at them whenever he wanted, according to two fellow officers.
The university has only now confirmed that display occurred â a year and a half after McCluskey first brought her concerns to the department â as part of a continued push by The Salt Lake Tribune to obtain public records on how the case was handled. The U. spoke to the officer who was shown the pictures by Deras and verified the action with him. The Tribune also substantiated it with another officer, who overheard Deras talking to that co-worker.
Neither officer reported the incident at the time, and Deras was never disciplined for it.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez graduated cum laude from Boston University, majoring in international relations and economics. She has also placed second in an international microbiology competition. She interned for Senator Ted Kennedy.
Her father died her sophomore year. She went back to waitressing because it paid better than politics or activism and her family needed the money.
Republicans love to blow her off as âjust a waitressâ because she is right.
Dormant Predators
This is why I have this. Even if they can get the lock opened they canât push the door open. Got it at Lowes for $20.
reblog for that last bit to save a life
If youâre like me and have a large gap under your front door (someone could take a stick and just poke the leaning stick style door jam out), I recommend the Addalock. Itâs small, perfect for traveling, and this lock is CRAZY. Itâs so simple but the door does not move.
You canât see it from the other side, either. It also cost about $20, and I canât recommend it enough. Easy to travel with, too! Great for Air BnBs!
Thatâs why I have these on my doors. They get drilled into the side and once its flipped over the door nothing is getting it open. Not the door being unlocked nothing, Iâve unlocked the door and pulled and pushed as hard as I could and it didnât budge. When I go on a trip this is what I use and when Iâm home I leave it on too. No one is getting in here.
Okay I know that it is necessary for many but what do you do if you need medical attention and youâre not able to open the door from the inside? Can the fire department get through these at least? Â
Yes. The fire department can and will break down your door if necessary, itâs one of the reasons they have axes; itâs entirely possible for door frames to melt/expand/seize or otherwise become unopenable during a house fire but the door itself can be hacked down. Or the window. In rare cases, the wall. Firefighters donât fuck around with collateral damage when lives are at stake.
Sharing for all the safety items!!
the fact that there's an 8 fucking pm curfew in new york is so unfathomably insane to me. like, a city of 8 million or whatever all has to go home when the sun is barely down because cops are that addicted to upholding white supremacy? i was out and some cop drove by and said thru his loudspeaker "go home! what are you still doing out!" what are you doing driving around in a caravan with your lights on fucking harassing people in the street? get a real fucking job
listen living in nyc is wild right now, but the curfew makes total sense when you see it from the NYPDâs perspective.
i was out today 4-7pm, cops surrounding us marching with full riot gear, batons, shields, tasers, the works, and following the march were at least 15 NYPD vans. i kept wondering, what are they waiting for??
they were waiting for the FUCKING CURFEW. as soon as 8pm hits, everyone--EVERYONE--on the street is a criminal, because youâre out past curfew. if youâre out after 8pm, youâre breaking the law. youâre a criminal, and if youâre a criminal, the cops can do anything to you that they want. it is literally night and day. i left todayâs march before the curfew, with zero violence from police, but as soon as night fell, suddenly those very same cops got out their batons and tripped up everyone they could find.Â
the curfew exists SOLELY to give the NYPD a cover for arrests, beatings, stealing peopleâs bicycles, paper spray, tear gas, any of the violent things those motherfuckers fantasize about doing every single hour of the day.
and when you see people argue, âoh if they didnât want to be arrested, they shouldnât have been out past curfewâ THATâS THE FUCKING POINT. itâs a state-sanctioned crack down on otherwise free speech and assembly. they WANT to trap people into âcommittingâ âcrimesâ so they can be violent. they WANT to beat and maim all the peaceful protesters doing the day, and without a curfew, they wouldnât have as many good excuses for doing so.Â
the curfew is only so that the police can commit violence against peaceful, first-amendment protected citizens and scare everyone else into staying inside. itâs a goddamn shame and i will go to my grave ashamed of myself for ever thinking cops are good people.
