Human Aurora ft the tiny mechanisms

niki has heard a lot of screaming today. she thought that the birth was over when jonny stopped screaming a while, but then there was more screaming. new screaming. and sobbing? she sneaks out of her room and peeks around the corner, trying to overhear what happened. something seems to have gone wrong, and she doesn’t like it.

"Where could she have gone?" Tim asked, holding Jonny as he sobbed, able to do nothing but hold him. Able to do nothing at all but attempt to comfort his love. "Where.. where could she be..?"

Jonny screamed into his chest, growing more and more angry the longer he was stuck just sitting there. He sobbed, pulling away and wiping his face. "I don't know. I don't know! She came in, she took Rhea, she left. She left, she has our girl somewhere. She could be doing anything to her right now!"

Tim went to speak but spotted the young girl peaking around the corner. He sniffled and stood up. "Niki, darling. Are you okay? Hi, love, hello."

“she spends a lot of time in the basement.” niki whispers. “that’s where i found her last time.”

she stays partially hidden, ashamed in admitting that she visited the woman without permission, but knowing that any knowledge would help. “i’m.. okay. there was a lot of screaming. i got scared, but i- i’ll be fine.”

"I'm sorry, darling," Tim said, kneeling down and opening up his arms for her. "Come here, come here. You don't need to be afraid. Everything is okay." The basement was cleared out. That was the first place Tim checked. "I'm sorry for scaring you."

Jonny was on the bed, holding back his tears and wails so as not to freak Niki out anymore. He also didn't look at her, knowing that he wouldn't be able to hide the sorrow in his eyes, nor the ache in his heart.

“she- i’m so sorry dad.” she squeaks to jonny from tim’s arms. “i- i thought she was- i can try to look. to look for the baby. i wanna help.”

she feels guilty and she doesn’t know why. she shouldn’t have gone to the basement without telling them before, its eating her up.

“how do i help?”

"My love, you're just a child," Tim said, holding her tight. He stood up, holding Niki in his arms. "You don't need to help us. I don't think there's anything you could do." Niki was so young, so small, yet so determined. Tim couldn't let anything happen to her, though. He failed to protect her so many times before, and he failed to protect Rhea. He was a failure as a mother, but that didn't mean he wouldn't try to protect her now.
