Q: In the following days, will you do some check ups or is it something you're already been handling? And then I understood that before Wimbledon you won't play any tournament, even though you had this early loss here.
We have to talk with the team to see what's better to do. We'll do some check ups to see what happened with my body today. I think it will be good for me to not play any tournament honestly, then we'll see how I'll play in Wimbledon. I've played really a lot these last two months and a half, starting from Indian Wells, a lot of beautiful moments, we need to say that too. We hope we'll be ready for Wimbledon, and to be ready for Wimbledon, we have to recover and do things well now and then we'll see."
Q: I was wondering, since there had been other moments were you had these problems, maybe for different reasons but, since it's your own body, are you able to see a costant in these moments where you don't have any energy, where you can't give your maximum? Is there something that repeats itself in these kind of injuries or are they all different from one another?
I think it's hard to say. Today it was something different, a lot of things all together. I wasn't able to get myself out of this difficult moment, when maybe usually I can get myself out of it a little bit better, I find other solutions: today I didn't have any energy. It can happen, no one is a robot or designed to not make any mistakes, today it went like this and then we'll see.
Q: You said in english that you had started to not feel well this morning or tonight: were you thinking 'it'll pass' or 'it won't pass, there's nothing I can do today, it's different from other times so I don't know what to do'. I want to know what was going through your mind this morning and also during the match.
Sometimes when you start moving you feel better, and this morning I started to feel better after the warm up, I showered and we prepared for the match. In the middle of the third set, I started to not feel well and I wasn't able to get out of it. I tried to recover in the fourth set by letting it go and then start well in the fifth: in the first game of the fifth set I wasn't able to hold my serve which definitely wasn't the start I would've wanted in a fifth set. I had chances on 4-1 to go 4-2 and I wasn't able to take them. Then today... it was very strange, I didn't have any energy. It was tough because I didn't see the way out today honestly, which normally doesn't happen to me. Today I couldn't have done more.
Q: Can you compare today's disappointment, since you were the favorite to win the tournament and it was your goal for this season, with with your loss last year in 5 sets to Alcaraz? You seemed more affected by the loss last year. Do you feel the difference between these two things?
Two different things, I can't compare what happened last year to what happened today, it's two completely different things. Last year I was fighting for the throphy. The throphy this year... you can talk about it when you're in the final, before you can't. I knew the position I was in coming here this year, I knew it before the tournament, during and until now too, but it went how it went. There are still a lot of italians here, let's hope they'll do well. I'll be back again in Wimbledon.
