there’s a used bookstore in rural western massachusetts (the montague book mill) whose motto is “books you don’t need in a place you can’t find” and i just feel like that summarizes tumblr too

okay but what if we consider valinor having music contests in the style of like. the voice or something. i don't think they have TVs at least pre-darkening, but i think they should have a huge amphitheatre made sorely for this purpose that fills with spectators coming from all around to watch the performance each time.

it starts out as an informal and unofficial competition between peers in tirion (because i feel like the noldor would absolutely be the ones to be most competitive about this) that gains traction as more upcoming musicians find out about it, and gradually it spreads out to the vanyar and the teleri as a tirion music competition. and as it gets more and more famous someone probably decides that they might as well make it a Thing.

and i think maglor and elemmírë should be two of the judges. for one, i think maglor would absolutely love judging other people's musical abilities and would probably have the most flair out of all of them and for another i think the event picks up popularity around the time maglor is already famous for his voice on top of being famous for being a prince so when the question of 'who are we going to ask to be a judge' comes up, maglor and elemmírë are the first people they think of. finrod was not one of the judges originally, but when the older telerin singer pulled out a few years in, he took the place. and the fourth judge should just be a random noldo who's famous enough but not all that memorable altogether

i also think they should try to continue this around the fourth age after most people are re-embodied and despite the controversy of being a kinslayer they invite maglor back as a judge and most people get super excited about it, because during the exile a lot of upcoming or not so famous musicians got to be judges but at the fourth age this is basically a comeback/remake and if anything the whole kinslaying thing makes things even more interesting. elemmire's been the only consistent judge and daeron gets invited to be the other one

also it would be extra funny if, on top of this one music competition, after the fourth age when they gave a wide variety of elven cultures thrown together, they create another music competition that gets just as, if not more famous, and it's essentially the valinor elf equivalent of eurovision
