Joel sitting there and telling this impressionable girl that in the before times everyone loved contractors, like a fucking liar. Babe, if my contractors looked like Pedro Pascal sure BUT THEY DON’T. You liar, you fibber, you absolute storyteller.

his big doleful eyes and violently self-destructive tendencies have captivated me
This is the face of a man who has completely disconnected from what is happening around him.
And this is the face of a man who has absolutely no idea how he got here, but somehow he's got his little girl with him and that's all that matters.
Remember?
the dynamic can’t be beat
I’m not her, you know.
Okay but Joel was never awake during any of the time he was injured after falling off the horse in the game
Joel telling her to go and trying to keep his pained noises in check since he is AWAKE during her stitching him up is SOOO much better then the game
The shove got me so bad. He’s never been rough with her.
The most he’s ever done is pull on the hood of her sweatshirt to make her move (and do you know how often parents steer kids that way? It’s not even zipped, there’s no way for it to hurt her.) The only time, really, is when he grabs her and hauls her out of the State House when Tess tells him to go.
When she lashes out and shoves him, he doesn’t react at all. He just takes it. There’s absolutely no thought in his head, even once, of being physical with her.
But he pushes her away, physically, because he’s so scared of losing her that he’s willing to bleed to death in a basement to save her. He wants her to hate him enough to leave, wants her to be angry enough to leave him. He shakes her to try and get her to take this seriously and then pushes her away and she is pissed, alright.
She’s so pissed that she would save his life out of SPITE now because, seriously, how fucking dare he think she would leave him.
ellie calling escalators "electric stairs" and playing on them with a-ha playing in the background. ellie falling more in love with riley on that carousel. ellie thinking a photobooth is a time machine. ellie seeing an arcade for the first time and saying it's the most beautiful thing she's ever seen.
she is trying so hard to be intimidating oh baby girl i love u
joel getting excited when he finds the chef boyardee’s beefaroni is like when you mention you like something to your dad ONE TIME and he comes home from costco with a shitton of it
(with tears blinding my vision) w-wip of ellie and super sam……
Joel protecting Ellie on the ground while he's up in the building. Him seeing the truck at the same time she did, following her as she ran to it for shelter. Him being so zoned in on her and only her. Him seeing that she's going to make a run to save Henry and Sam, and her looking to him for cover, and him knowing what it means and nodding, "go for it, I've got you."
Holy fucking shit.

Post reads: "It's the same criticism I see levied at the last episode over and over again. "I'm fine with gay people, but keep politics out of my entertainment."
I'm genuinely curious. How in the holy hell is a gay relationship pictured on screen inherently "political?"
It's maddening man. I'd prefer they just come out and say what they're actually thinking."
User catnap_kismet replies: "there are two sexualities, straight and political. there are two genders, male and political. there are two races, white and political. etc".

But you get it, though. You might not be her father, but you were someone’s. See, I could tell.
THE LAST OF US S01E01: When You’re Lost in the Darkness S01E05: Endure and Survive
I don’t care about ANYTHING else my favourite thing about the tlou tv show, and what I wanted most from it, is the in between moments.
Where do Joel and Ellie sleep? What do they eat? How do they live, not just fight, in this world?
Tlou was praised for its brutality-it was difficult, it was gruelling, it was grounded. Yet, that’s not exactly right. I love the game, and it is difficult but it’s not that realistic. The characters, while intriguing and well developed, lack a level of believability. They rarely have to tend to any actual human functions besides heavily accelerated healing. It’s necessary for a video game. I get it. I’ve still always wanted more. Wanted them to feel like real people, not just characters.
The show has delivered.
Ellie is a young teenager-it’s very likely she has already had her period, yet it is NEVER discussed in the game.
Effortlessly, in episode 3 of the show she rejoices in finding tampons. In episode 2 Joel and Tess are noticeably jealous that Ellie gets to eat chicken, a luxury to them. Joel is a hardened survivor and smuggler, yet has to scrounge for jobs in QZ.
REGARDLESS of anything else, to me the show is already a success for these additions. For giving these characters a chance to breathe, a chance to be human.
