A man is driving down the road and breaks down near a monastery. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, “My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night?” The monks graciously accept him, feed him dinner, even fix his car. As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound. The next morning, he asks the monks what the sound was, but they say, “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.” The man is disappointed but thanks them anyway and goes about his merry way. Some years later, the same man breaks down in front of the same monastery. The monks accept him, feed him, even fix his car. That night, he hears the same strange noise that he had heard years earlier. The next morning, he asks what it is, but the monks reply, “We can’t tell you. You’re not a monk.” The man says, “All right, all right. I’m *dying* to know. If the only way I can find out what that sound was is to become a monk, how do I become a monk?” The monks reply, “You must travel the earth and tell us how many blades of grass there are and the exact number of sand pebbles. When you find these numbers, you will become a monk.” The man sets about his task. Forty-five years later, he returns and knocks on the door of the monastery. He says, “I have traveled the earth and have found what you have asked for. There are 145,236,284,232 blades of grass and 231,281,219,999,129,382 sand pebbles on the earth.” The monks reply, “Congratulations. You are now a monk. We shall now show you the way to the sound.” The monks lead the man to a wooden door, where the head monk says, “The sound is right behind that door.” The man reaches for the knob, but the door is locked. He says, “Real funny. May I have the key?” The monks give him the key, and he opens the door. Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone. The man demands the key to the stone door. The monks give him the key, and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby. He demands another key from the monks, who provide it. Behind that door is another door, this one made of sapphire. So it went until the man had gone through doors of emerald, silver, topaz, and amethyst. Finally, the monks say, “This is the last key to the last door.” The man is relieved to no end. He unlocks the door, turns the knob, and behind that door he is amazed to find the source of that strange sound. But I can’t tell you what it is because you’re not a monk

the way i learned this, it was always told through spoken word. And you’d do the door thing for ages. AGES. literally just making up any old material. ‘behind the foam door is a door made of spinach’ that kind of shit. Go on until whoever is listening has already begged you to stop and has now gone on to pleading, clutching your shirt on their knees pleading. And when you finally said the last line? People went fucking nuts Like there was a good chance of just getting the teeth knocked out of you after telling that joke.
A friend of mine did that shit for 30 minutes on a camp once. The entire fucking bus just exploded in anger when she finished. It was a fucking massacre.
I come home at 11.10pm, after a 12.5 hour shift, to see pictures of my high school classmates, all beautifully and handsomely dressed up for prom. They truly are all stunning and I'm happy for them. There was really no reason for me to go, I haven't gone to the high school in two years - I'm at the college full time (Running Start, like dual enrollment). I'm not close to anyone there. And the dance would've probably been lame, based on the one TOLO dance I went to in 10 grade. I feel a regret, though. Maybe I should've gone, done the whole thing - request time off, buy a nice dress (I had tried dresses with younger youth group members for fun a couple weeks ago!), do my nails and hair, ask the one friend and go with her group (or ask a coworker as a date). I've been telling people since the start of last year "Yeah, I'll go to senior prom. Haven't gone to any homecomings, so it'd be one last hurrah." And before I knew it...it came, and it passed. Despite people telling me it's overrated, and me totally understanding that, there's just a little part of me that...weeps. Even with all reason, I know I'm gonna feel this for a couple days...

YEEEESS!
Could yall say a quick prayer for my cousin and her baby? She’s the one with muscular dystrophy and a high risk pregnancy I mentioned a few months ago. It had been going fairly well and she’s due next month but now she’s in the hospital because of extremely low blood pressure and something about a lack of nutrients in the embryonic (amniotic??) fluid so her kid isn’t developing properly. If they can’t fix it by wendesday they’re going to have to induce her.
Honestly as much as I love Reylo I also really love Finnrey. Finnrey is such a pure and wholesome ship and it’s a shame most of its shippers are incredibly toxic people.
Finnrey all the way. It needs to happen. Especially because Kylo may end up being her brother or cousin or something.
This is Star Wars we are talking about. He’s going to wind up being her father somehow.
God I hope not. >_>
please pray for me. depression has a hold of me.
please keep praying.

friendly reminder not to support lindt this easter season, or apparently ever again, because they support autism speaks.
Wowwwwwwww
can someone please explain why autism speaks is so bad?
because they’re adamant that autism is a disease that can be “cured”. They don’t have a single autistic person on their board. Autism Speaks produces advertisements, small films, ect. about what a burden autistic people are to a society. They only spend about 4% of their money on “family services.” They create a stereotype that makes it hard for actual autistic people, like myself, be heard and recognized as actually autistic. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder before they realized that I actually showed signs of Asperger’s. They don’t actually help us.
That’s the problem with Autism Speaks.
(tw for violence, ableism, abuse, murder, and death)
It goes deeper than not having any autistic board members. Many of the allistics running the organization promote the horrific notion that you’re better off dead than autistic, and their influence and “activism” only supports the ideology resulting in the continued murder of autistic children and adults by their parents and caregivers.
Former Autism Speaks board member Harry Slatkin, whose wife, Laura, continues to serve on the Board of Directors, stated in an interview with Town and Country while still a board member that sometimes he hoped their autistic son David would drown in the backyard pond rather than “suffer like this all his life.” Evidencing a pattern of similarly violent rhetoric, Autism Speaks is also responsible for the 2006 PSA “Autism Every Day“ in which their then Vice President states on camera that she considered putting her autistic daughter in the car and driving off a bridge, and that the only reason she refrained from doing so was because her other, non-autistic daughter would have been waiting for her at home—her autistic daughter was in the room as she made these statements. Furthermore, the producer of this PSA explicitly admitted that the film was intentionally staged to portray negative images of autistic people and their families. Only four days following the release of “Autism Every Day,” pathologist Karen McCarron smothered her autistic daughter with a garbage bag. McCarron stated that she murdered Katie because her “autism had not been improving,” had thought about killing Katie, that made an earlier brief attempt at suffocation, wanted to cure Katie, thought killing Katie would make her “complete” in heaven, and wanted to live without autism and thus had to kill Katie. Investigators found that McCarron was obsessed with different treatments for Katie. (See People v. FRANK-McCARRON, 934 NE 2d 76 - Ill: Appellate Court, 3rd Dist. 2010.) Though it is not presently possible to draw a direct connection between Autism Speaks’ PSA and Katie’s murder, this crime and dozens like it only underscore how the kind of rhetoric that Autism Speaks favors only serves to recklessly endanger the lives of autistic people.
(source article)
Autism Speaks also publicly supports the Judge Rotenberg Center, a group home for autistic and neurodivergent students that uses “treatments” like food and sleep deprivation and electric shock to try and train the residents into acting neurotypical. The center has changed states three times in an attempt to bypass regulation against abusive treatment, and their practices have resulted in the deaths of more than one student.
It’s not just an issue of Autism Speaks making it harder for us to get proper diagnoses and treatment. Autism Speaks is actively killing us.
Well shit.
I was eyeing up their strawberries and cream lindor the other day but this is more important than delicious chocolate.
you all need to know this. You really do. Please do not support Lindt or anything that supports autism speaks. Please.
Seriously Lindt makes my favourite chocolate ever?? but My boyfriend is my favourite person ever so looks like I’m gonna go find a better candy maker, one that doesn’t support murder.
ghirardelli > lindt, and not just because of the autism speaks thing.
I have autism and IM NOT JOKING THIS IS IMPORTANT
Exactly. The autism “research” that autism speaks does, reeks very heavily of eugenics.
Okay, but it’s not enough to just not buy this brand of chocolate. It has to be made known exactly what kind if org Autism Speaks is. The reason they spend so much on PR is so that the general public never funds out how reprehensible they are. No non-autistic person I speak to is ever aware of these things.
If you find out an company is partnered with Autism Speaks, contact them. Call, email, write letters. Offer alternative charities. It may not work every time, but the more people you tell, the fewer people will be likely to donate to them in the future.
this post is from 2014, anyone know if lindt still support autism speaks?

18-year-old Keshia Thomas protects a fallen man, believed to be associated with the Ku Klux Klan from an angry mob of anti-clan protestors. Ann Arbor, Michigan USA. 1996. By Mark Brunner
Tumblr’s gonna shit its pants with this one.
Whoa.
Even better, shortly after the incident, the man’s son tracked her down and thanked her for saving his father’s life.
Ya, the man was a Klansman and his views were wrong, but Keshia felt that she had shown someone violence is never the answer and maybe changed some minds.
“For the most part, people who hurt… they come from hurt. It is a cycle. Let’s say they had killed him or hurt him really bad. How does the son feel? Does he carry on the violence?”
And the photographer still keeps this picture with her to this day. She uses it as inspiration to be a better person.
But she asks herself whether she could be as brave as Thomas. What if one of the hurtful people who had racially abused her girls was in danger, she wonders. “Would I save them, or would I stand there and say, ‘You deserved it, you were a jerk.’ I just don’t know the answer to that, yet. Maybe that is why I am so struck by her.”
See, THIS is a woman worth looking up to. SHE actually wanted change, not vengeance.
People on this website need to see her, hear her, and be more like her.

Thank you, women who are mothers! You have sheltered human beings within in a unique experience of joy and travail. This experience makes you become God’s own smile upon the newborn child, the one who guides your child’s first steps, who helps it to grow, and who is the anchor as the child makes its way along the journey of life. Thank you, women who are wives! You irrevocably join your future to that of your husbands, in a relationship of mutual giving, at the service of love and life. Thank you, women who are daughters and women who are sisters! Into the heart of the family, and then of all society, you bring the richness of your sensitivity, your intuitiveness, your generosity and fidelity. Thank you, women who work! You are present and active in every area of life-social, economic, cultural, artistic and political. In this way you make an indispensable contribution to the growth of a culture which unites reason and feeling, to a model of life ever open to the sense of “mystery”, to the establishment of economic and political structures ever more worthy of humanity. Thank you, consecrated women! Following the example of the greatest of women, the Mother of Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word, you open yourselves with obedience and fidelity to the gift of God’s love. You help the Church and all mankind to experience a “spousal” relationship to God, one which magnificently expresses the fellowship which God wishes to establish with his creatures. Thank you, every woman, for the simple fact of being a woman! Through the insight which is so much a part of your womanhood you enrich the world’s understanding and help to make human relations more honest and authentic. - Saint John Paul II
