One of my favourite movie scenes is from the film BIG, the iconic department store scene featuring Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia in New York’s famous FAO Schwarz Toy Store. Every child’s dream, this part of the film show that even adults can act as big kids and of course the famous floor piano scene.

Tiffany & Co.

Offering the finest in jewellery and luxury accessories, Tiffany & Co is well-known brand worldwide and unless you’re an a-lister or a business tycoon most of us will not be seeing gifts from Tiffany any time soon. Instead we’ll have to dream were in movie scenes like Sweet Home Alabama, where Patrick Dempsey proposes to Reece Witherspoons in Tiffany on New York’s 5th Ave.

Museum of Natural History

Just one of New York City’s most popular tourist attractions and one of the world’s largest museums, featured in the blockbuster movie A Night at the Museum with Ben Stiller, Dick Van Dyke and the late Robin Williams – a story based on everything past, present and future coming to life at night time. 5 mouth-watering restaurants in Manchester that won't break your bank

Although being a much smaller city than the international metropolis that is London, the UK's northern city Manchester is rapidly becoming just as popular if not an alternative to the country's capital. With more in common than it seems, the only real difference between these fabulous cities is their sizes.

Just like London, Manchester has fantastic shopping, entertainment, galleries, arts & culture, attractions and restaurants to visit and explore. Compared to London’s high prices, eating out in Manchester can be both accessible and affordable for everyone.

Here are five of my best restaurants I love in Manchester that always see me return for quality food, fantastic drinks and decent prices.

San Carlo

Everyone loves Italian food and has their favourite restaurant. Mine is none other than the brilliant San Carlo (King Street West, Manchester),the up-market décor, superb cocktails and friendly service are exactly the three reasons why I love this place. Like a family, San Carlo offers a five star staff service with your favourite Italian recipes as well as other top notch dishes. The restaurant is also a popular dining spot for celebrities, surprisingly without the matching price tag.

The Grill on the Alley

Another one of my absolute favourite restaurants is Grill on the Alley (5 Ridgefield, Manchester), my most visited restaurant which is perfect any time of the week. I love steak house’s very homely and hearty menu, which is not too over the top yet is very satisfying. My favourite main courses are the flame grilled rib eye steak with garlic prawns (a surf & turf option) and the Sunday roasts with either beef or chicken – great when you don’t feel like cooking on a Sunday. As for dessert I love the sticky toffee pudding and ice-cream (the best I’ve come across).

The Alchemist

Home to creative and show-stopping cocktails I know The Alchemist (3 Hardman Street, Manchester) predominantly as a trendy bar, serving one-of-a-kind alcoholic beverages which are visually stunning. However, a friend once suggested we eat there during the day and to be honestly I was pleasantly surprised. Now one of my “go to” restaurants the Alchemist serves great simple food perfect for quick lunches and evening meals. With burgers, classy chicken nuggets and spicy salads the food here certainly fills the spot. The prices are about the same as a Nando’s or Pizza Express depending on what you order.

Rosso

Owned by Manchester United’s very own Rio Ferdinand, when I first went to Rosso (43 Spring Gardens, Manchester) I was apprehensive to what it would be like because of its well-established reputation and popularity amongst celebrity visitors. The restaurant certainly boasts a grand atmosphere about it with the high ceilings and opulent decor. I particularly enjoy the cocktails at Rosso and the mirror bar area was a nice touch, great for photos. The restaurant offers a modern contemporary menu with everything from pasta, pizza, steak and seafood.

Solita

Almost every restaurant you go to serves “burgers” topped with the usual bacon, cheese or even a hash brown. Up until the last few years more and more independent burger restaurants have come up with extreme and unusual burger combinations. Joining in the craze I went to Solita (37 Turner Street, Manchester) in the city’s fashionable Northern Quarter (NQ) to try one for myself. I had the “Manc-Hattan” and as burgers go it was delicious and filled with pastrami, melted Lancashire cheese, panko fried black pudding amongst other ingredients. If you’re looking for an alternative burger venue check it out.

For most of the restaurants I’ve mentioned above it might be a good idea to book in advance as I always do, most of the time they are fully booked but that’s only because there great!

Sick of needing to carry a bag round for the simplest of items whilst on holiday? My Thomson 787 Dreamliner Experience to Florida

Everyone loves going on holiday and whether you’re heading to Europe or half way around the world flight experiences can be tedious, tiring and particularly uncomfortable. By far some journeys   are worse than others and unlike those living the high life of business class and private jets, economy class and low cost airlines are just the norm for most of us.

I booked a package holiday to Florida for early November 2013 via Thomson. We treated ourselves to flying on the new 787 Dreamliner launch earlier that year and in their exclusive Premium Club class too. Holidaying to Florida was a first for me and the addition of Premium seats was an added bonus.

After weeks of anticipation the day has finally arrived, I was going to Florida, to the place I had only seen on the TV and heard stories about. Although I was dreading the long flight, Premium seats or not – usually when I fly I can just about cope with a 3 or 4 hour flight so I had no idea what to expect.

My first impression were not bad at all, complimentary to our Premium Club tickets we were able to check in quickly and board the plane first which is always a plus in my book, just a shame about airport security.

When I stepped onto the plane it was instant that the Dreamliner was unlike anything else –the spacious, modern and innovative design swept through the cabins accompanied by an array of colourful mood lighting.

Once settled into my seat I was offered a drink of champagne or fresh orange (I opted for orange juice as it was an early morning flight) accompanied by a magazine and newspaper. At this point I felt very upper class and almost guilty for those in economy it was basically like being waited on hand and foot without asking.

I even got to choose my own starter and main course from their Thomson Signature menu; I chose to have a couscous salad to start and braised beef for main with dauphinoise potatoes and vegetables - this was like fine dining compared to my other in-flight meal experiences.

This may sound a little strange to some people but when we arrived in Florida it didn’t feel like I had been on a lengthy flight, if anything I found it a lot easier and comfortable on a 9 hour flight than I usually do on shorter flights. The whole journey was relaxed and easy going with limitless drinks and movies on demand I felt more like I was at home than on a plane. If you ever get a chance to fly the Thomson 787 Dreamliner – Premium Club on one of your next vacations you’re sure in for 1st class flight experience.

Useful tips to make planning your Orlando holiday a little easier

When I booked my first ever holiday to Orlando, Florida I came across tons of information about the typical do’s and don’ts of the theme parks. Everybody’s Florida experience is different and although suggestions are helpful there are a lot of things you just learn along the way.

I would agree that planning is key but only to a certain degree. Don’t over plan your holiday, especially if it’s your first visit to Florida. Personally, I would say the main areas to “pre-plan” are holiday costs and park tickets. A Disney holiday in Florida will be expensive regardless of budget; of course there are more “affordable ways” of doing things but something’s you will just have to pay the price for.

For my own holiday I booked a package deal for about £700 for 7 nights at The Holiday Inn & Suites, International Drive based on two guests sharing. The location of the hotel was within ideal distance to the theme parks and because we did not rent a car this was perfect for us. How did we travel around? The hotel provided complimentary shuttle bus transfers to all major theme parks. We read up on this during time of booking so we knew how to get around.

For those who are booking their holidays with a tour operator, they will find that park tickets are available as an add-on at the time of booking. This is very convenient but for me I prefer to shop around to find the best deals. Via www.FloridaTix.co.uk they offer a ticket combination of all three major parks (Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios and SeaWorld) for one price - £450, which was much cheaper than purchasing separate tickets.

In the parks, no matter what time of the year there is always going to be queues and wait times. Park queues and wait times will decrease and increase throughout the year depending on when you go. For example I visited in November and it was busy but not as extreme as summer is. July and August are both the popular and worse times to go. As the busiest time of the year, visitor numbers double, the weather is very hot and wait times can exceed on hours. Some visitors and families opted for “Fast Passes” as a solution – charged at an additional cost but because everyone has the same idea, even the Fast Pass queues are lengthy.

All Orlando parks offer a wide selection of fast food joints, cafeteria buffets and reserved dining options for when you go hungry. If you wish to enjoy sit down meals at larger in-park restaurants then making a reservation in strongly advised. Most if not all waiter serviced restaurants in the parks are reservations only so be sure to book in advance online.

Entertainment performances and show/dining packages are also available across Orlando. Prices vary for different packages and tickets but booking online at website such as http://www.bestoforlando.com/ can save you up to 30%, events include Blue Man Group and Medieval Times; tickets can also be purchased in the major theme parks in Orlando.

One last thing I would like to mention that became extremely useful to me whilst on holiday was mobile apps. There are a variety of useful apps available with park information such as queue times, maps, directions, nearest toilets and first aid – the information is constantly up-dated to give you accurate park data.

One last tip to book early - this is especially important if you are booking flights and accommodation separately.  There are a huge array of condos and villas in Orlando and surrounding areas to choose from, including Davenport and Kissimmee.  Staying in a self-catering villa in Florida can be much more flexible than staying in hotels, and is very often more affordable too.
