This is a place to share, discover, and discuss music with other alterhumans, whether that music is made by us, or is something we find relates to our personal experiences. Find us on Neocities, Spotify, and YouTube. Spotify is currently the most updated platform and I will release bulletin updates once the other platforms are brought current.
Explore genres and playlists curated via community submission, share your own playlists, browse the zine rack, keep up with news and events at the bulletin, and share your own alterhuman experiences with music. Please read the submission rules below. The queue posts once per day, new submissions will be posted the day that I see them.
This is not a discourse blog. I ask that you all be respectful, I have no official DNI but I do block liberally.
This blog is run by the same person behind @alterhumanrecords, I can no longer access that account and had to start fresh.

— Classification -
Playlists are currently sorted by Fauna, Flora, Fungi, Mythic, Extraterrestrial, Concept, Object, and Soundscape. Fauna, Flora, and Fungi are sorted loosely by taxonomy. The exact taxonomic terms I have chosen may vary or be inconsistent between groups. These choices are an attempt to be both exact and easily accessible.
For groups that do not have scientific taxonomy, like Extraterrestrial or Object will be sorted by common groups. Fish share a shelf and then are divided by taxonomy to cut down on the amount of subsections both fish and all other fauna would have to navigate through otherwise.
Fiction is organized by genre and sub-genre, with the intent to add specific sources and characters based on community submissions.
Classifications may be subject to change, and I am open to community suggestion and feedback.
— Submissions -
Submit songs, playlist ideas, zines, and other resources, or share your own playlists! I will not accept any submissions that include AI content. If you want to track your submissions and be tagged as a frequent submitter please check the Frequent Submitter section below and assign yourself a unique emoji combination.
— Song Submissions - Please include song/album name, artist name, playlist name, and language! If you are fictionfolk please include your source and character name. While the fictionfolk playlists are organized by fiction genre, the music you submit does not have to fit that genre just relate to your type.
— Song Example - Running With The Wolves by AURORA in English for the Wolf playlist
— Album Example - Wild Wet World by Cosmo Sheldrake in English for the General - Pod Jams playlist.
— Playlist Submissions - I'm always open to adding new playlists! If you make a submission for a new playlist to be added please include at least one song so that the playlist isn't empty.
— Zines and Other Resource Submissions - Submissions should be related alterhuman communities, or to music.
— Sharing Playlists - Feel free to submit links to your own playlists if you are interested in sharing them with the community.

We Will Commit Wolf Murder by Of Montreal is the fourth track on Paralytic Stalks. I'll describe this progressive pop track with a quote by Kevin Barns
“A lot of this record finds me thinking about the cruelty of humanity and exploring that aspect of the human condition, the way we treat each other. ”
Good Boy by Dogbite is the first track on the album True Lo-fi Will Find You In The End, which released 30 March 2018. This twee pop song is about a toxic relationship, where the singer describes their partner as a large dog.

while I’m away from this blog I thought I’d leave you all with some podcast recommendations.
Primer is a podcast that discusses music from outside the English speaking world. Each season discusses a new genre, and each episode discusses an album from that genre. Their first season is about Japanese City Po
Heat Rocks was a podcast interviewing musicians, critics, and scholars about the albums that changed their lives. I promise the link above is different from the Primer link, it just looks similar because Primer is by some of the same folk and Heat Rocks promoted it when the show ended so that’s what Spotify shows.
Lost Notes by KCRW is an award winning music documentary podcast. Transcripts are available on the KCRW website.
ok but like hear me out here
fish inside a birdcage
its very literal
Fish in a Birdcage by Fish in a Bird Cage
A very apt song to put under a alterhuman gaze, given both its imagery and its metaphor for being a confined outcast.
Fish in a Bird Cage is a indie folk band out of Calgary Alberta, Canada, and created the image of the fish in the bird cage as a metaphor for feeling cages as an artist due to environment
"The idea behind fish in a birdcage is that the fish is an able bodied creature with the potential to "fly" just not in that environment. I relate to that personally, being an artist confined or caged into a place where I cannot "fly" or live up to my full potential because of the caging of my environment."
i’d say this is a pretty broad song so itd fit the alterhuman jams bin, but it does have references to coyotes (canine bin)
not explicitly nonhuman but i get the vibe
I Hear The Rain by Violent Femmes is the second song off the album released 14 May 1984. This cowpunk song is a follow up to the band's previous song Country Death Song, about a man who drowns his daughter in a well.
Since the coyote reference are more of a part of the singer's environment and not the focus of the song I'll add it to the Jams bin, but I'll add it to the Canine one as well.
The album art features the theta delta, so it’s possible the artist is therian. At the very least the song is definitely about therianthropy!
Rituals by Dog Weekend is an indie single released in 2024. This song is about going into the woods, rejecting your humanity, and becoming dogs with your friends forever and ever and never paying taxes again. I couldn't find any direct references to therianthropy specifically, but Dog Weekend is self described as a furry and make "music for dogs and dog aficionados, which also earns him a place in the alterhuman musician playlist.
- I Am The Dog by Sir Chloe (the lyrics "I am the dog under your couch, gnashing teeth and open mouth" are forever running through my head)
- Tongues & Teeth by The Crane Wives
- Mad Dog by The Crane Wives
- Saint Bernard by Lincoln
- Imposter Syndrome by Sidney Gish (specifically the audiotree live version, because it's more emotive)
I Am The Dog by Sir Chloe is an indie rock track released on May 19, 2023. It is the tenth track on the album I Am The Dog. Soft, high vocals over discordant music sing about an all consuming romanticized love.
Tongues & Teeth by The Crane Wives, the 7th track on A Fool In Her Wedding Gown, released on the 22nd of September, 2012. This is an indie rock track about a toxic relationship.
Mad Dog by The Crane Wives was released September 6th 2024, and is the sixth track on Beyond Beyond Beyond. This indie folk song deals with being overworked in the search for profit and trying to please others.
Saint Bernard by Lincoln is the firs track on the album A Constant State of Ohio, released 27 January 2017. This indie pop song deals with the singer's catholic background.
Imposter Syndrome by Sidney Gish - Audiotree Live Version. This song was released 31 December 2017 and is the 12th track on No Dogs Allowed. This bedroom pop song deals with the singer caring for herself like a dog and feeling disconnected from humanity "for human grossly under qualified for canine grossly overqualified."
