Storm’s coming…
I’m a sucker for the gold and black this whole sequence is just MWAH
Gravity gifset part 3 final
“why do you still use tumblr?”
listen— i have to keep track of my hyper fixations somehow
I still can't believe the first time Lavellan sees Solas after nearly a decade apart, is him beaten and roughed up.
I feel like it is such a gut punch for Lavellan to see the state he's in. The trials he's gone through in the long years of his absence manifesting physically in his wounds during the final battle. But also his body language.
He's bleeding from his face and SHOUTING while waving that fucking dagger. And immediately as her voice cuts through what I can only describe is the beginning of a mania as he's about to FINALLY tear down the Veil, he immediately and I mean IMMEDIATELY turns around and IMMEDIATELY lowers himself. Lowering that dagger and from when he held his head high about to enact his grand scheme he lowers his head in shame.
Because the fucking SHAME of his heart seeing him LIKE THIS? Wearing the damage and loss pursuing the fall of Veil has gotten him? And that (in that moment) she'll have to witness him breaking her heart AGAIN because he is still going through with the plan?
Like REALLY think about how it feels for her. To see her man, the elf called PRIDE, physically retreating under the weight of the shame and guilt her presence alone musters (as it should). Lavellan who, and I understand the frustration for some players if this ISN'T how they wanted their Lavellan to act, but who HAS already forgiven him seeing him like that?
Idk I just think about how heartbreaking it is for HER to see Solas like that. Just so broken down and visibly in pain. I wonder if she thought he would be standing proud and without conflict when the moment finally came that he tore down the Veil. The same "proudness" he carried himself with back in Trespasser, the last time she saw him physically. Not...this.

now that I got he appreciation post out of the way I’ll yap about what I loved the most about this whole scene because was a fucking masterpiece.
1. He looks fucked out and I’m going insane. His heavy breathing was blasting through my headphones and, although that is something that usually annoys me during these scenes, it was done carefully and tastefully. It felt natural and real, not overplayed, not overkilled, but raw and perfectly genuine.
2. Anyone else devastated by the absolute adorableness of this moment? Just me? This was such a cute short thing that casts light into their relationship. They’re both actually very carefree people, always have been, even if Jack had a hard time coming back to his true self. This moment felt so intimate and relaxed. From trying to make the other submit, playfully and sensually, they both pause here and quickly take a breather to gauge each other and decide how is this going to happen before Jack takes the lead again. These are truly Jack and Joke.
3. Wall slamming. It’s one of the cliches I absolutely devour. Ever since episode 1 I knew they would be the kind to do this. I knew their NC would be like this. They want each other too much, they’re gonna take and take and take.
4. No awkward stripping. Just desperate. The moment characters strip have always felt so unnatural for me. This was done hastily and they stumble and it doesn’t look pretty because it shouldn’t. They have wanted each other for too long for them to wait another second in getting themselves naked. Joke is so desperate he struggles with taking Jack’s shirt off and he doesn’t care nor slows down. It adds on the realness of it all.
5. More wall slamming. Dear god I’m unwell. No further words.
6. He was stupid hot for this. They are possessed. As they should be. There’s tenderness and roughness at the same time in their movements and touches, casting light on the fact they love each other but are desperately hungry for each other’s body. They never let you forget that, not once.
7. Did you hear my screams? I was not expecting that. What I’ve seen happen many times on BL NC scenes, is that there is a high contrast done in between the couple when it comes to portraying desire. Usually it’s only one of them that is more vocal or physical about it, while the other takes it and follows. Yin and War have mentioned they don’t want their characters to stick to one dynamic, and it shows a lot in this whole scene. They both are perfectly capable of taking the lead, they both want to take the lead, they both want to submit. They are equals. And that’s always gonna be that way.
The power play, the switching, the rolling in the sheets, the CONSENT, the loving looks, the gentle touches, the rough touches, the pauses, the desperation, the desire.
they did it all. not one single thing missing.
they deserve nothing less than a standing ovation.
yinwar, you did it again
I really do love the narrative’s insistence on Lucanis "least charming Crow” Dellamorte. Because the way he backs you to the wall is so goddamn hot, not even he could handle it. Took it straight out of one of his romance novels, then immediately thought "Oh no, too effective, can't do it." And then he never does it again. It's so funny. Lucanis used (Action: Flirt) exactly once and scared himself with his own sexy. Only genuine human vulnerability from here on out. Our beloved Awkward Pantry Man simply cannot endure his own attractiveness.
I like this, but I have a theory.
Crows are trained in seduction. They are taught how to look, how to talk, how to isolate a target to take them out. Lucanis got it, and he admits in game he was not very good at it, Illario took to it better so Illario charms and he stabs. Balance.
I think this was his training kicking in. I think Lucanis was like ‘I am attracted to this person.’ And reacted. And then caught himself.
Because Rook saved him. Rook treats him like a person, not an abomination. Rook doesn't deserve crow seduction, Rook deserves care and consideration. So Rook gets coffee and baked goods and little check ins because it is how Lucanis knows how to show he cares, and is interested, without being too heavy handed or falling back on training he doesn't want to use on them.
I am also delulu so.
No but like that's the best theory about this I've seen and it makes so much sense too!!
He say he's not good at it, but it's compared to Illario which is a serial lover. Doesn't mean he's bad at it objectively. He might actually be quite good if based against regular standards.
The reaction to someone flirting is flirt back, to get reactions, get information, intel. But that's only for work, for contracts. Rook is not a target. Rook's not a work contact. Not anymore. That's why he stops himself. And he has to think how he can show that real affection in other ways. Because he never really had to show it before. Just like he probably never received it. Genuine affection. Care. So he does what he knows. Cook. And kill. He will cook for Rook. He will kill for Rook.
"Tell me this ends with me asleep in your arms and I will kill any god you ask."
The fact that G’raha speaks about the fact that he actively grieves for the warrior of light he knew, despite you, the same person, sitting across from him in that gondola, is so absolutely soul shattering.
G’raha Tia woke up from a hundreds of years long nap to a destroyed world finding out not only that you had died, but that you had died long before your time due to a world ending deadly chemical weapon that nobody could’ve predicted would be launched. He spends years researching the reflections and the rejoinings to pinpoint the exact moment that the calamity of light happened on the first reflection to transport himself there to stop it. Merging his own soul and body with the Crystal Tower to gain enough power to transport through time and space to stop the fall of the first.
A whole century of fighting a losing battle G’raha, the Crystal Exarch, realizes the only person who can win this war is You. The Warrior of Light. G’raha builds a city for you. Saves the lives of a thriving community for you. Summons you (and inadvertently all of your friends) to the home he built for you so you can save the world. And save yourself. All while operating under the guise that he will kill himself in order to do it. And he almost does, but you stop him. You save him and bring him home back to the source to make good on a promise that you will go on an adventure together.
G’raha Tia wakes up from a nebulous amount of time passed nap to see You. But not the you he remembers, but the you He remembers. The you that survived and not the you that died. Two conflicting parts of his memory celebrating and grieving the loss of someone standing right in front of him. So close to touch but a walking ghost that he can’t.
He misses you. You’re right there. He mourns your death still after over a century. You are alive and sitting right across from him. You smile at him. He smiles back.
The symbology of the Convocation of Fourteen is just... one of my favorite details in ffxiv. And yeah, I know they have zodiac signs because Final Fantasy Tactics had zodiac signs and FF12 had zodiac signs, but 14's spin on them is inspired, and I don't think that gets enough appreciation.
Each of the Ascians is characterized to at least superficially match their sign. Emet-Selch seems like a Gemini, seemingly on both sides of every issue. Fandaniel seems like a Leo who wants to be the center of attention. Lahabrea, The Creator, seems like an artsy Pisces... just...y'know, a horrible one.
And it's not as if "terrible, messed-up version of Zodiac symbol" is new here. Tactics definitely had that already. The thing ffxiv adds to the trope is the presence of the Sun.
Azem's symbol being the sun and not a constellation tells us exactly what their role in the Convocation was supposed to be. The sun's path through the constellations is what gives all those signs their meanings. You can't be a Gemini unless the sun is in Gemini. The sun's passage through the zodiac is supposed to illuminate the best way forward. This is why Emet-Selch calls them both "Shepherd to the stars in the dark," and "Counsellor to the star's people." They're meant to inspire people to become their best selves. This is inadvertently what WoL does in numerous places and times across the game, (and one of the ancients in Elpis even comments on it) because apparently repeatedly dying at the hands of their coworkers and friends for eons did not get them out of having to do their job.
When the sun protested their unspeakbly terrible plan, they went all in on their hubris by casting it down forever. They never replaced Azem. They don't even want to remember they ever had a sun. They don't have the light that illuminates their best selves, their better future. So they can't find it anymore. They don't know how to be themselves anymore, in Azem's absence. In Elidibus' case, literally. He is so desperate for the guiding star he can't even remember having, that he constantly, instinctively, seeks out Azem in different forms. Wearing Ardbert's corpse, and wandering up to WoL for awkward chats, and looking back to the heroes of the past who were definitely Azem shards.
The sun, torn from the heavens, leads to the maker's ruin.
I was unaware of what the role of the Sun was in Astrology, and I have to say this is an incredible take on Azem and the WoL.
Often in the game we are referred to as being inspiring, or an inspiration to others (another thing we're often linked to is hope, but thats a different post).
I believe this was the line from the ancient you were referring to in Elpis (From Charmion, in one of the zone's sidequest storylines)
(Text: Were you perhaps designed to inspire others? I feel something special has been woven into your aura...)
Another case is from Nashmeira in the level 80 Shadowbringers Dancer quest.
(Text: ...Indeed. there is a certain something about you <name>. Something that brings out the best in those whose lives you touch - and Ranaa here is a prime example.)
Heres another line in a similar vein from Cid in the initial unlocking of Bozja questline.
(Text: That was... always your greatest strength... Instilling in others the courage to rise up... The courage to fight for what's right.)
Lastly, more in line with being a Shepard to the stars in the dark. Heres a line from Tolas in the finale for the two big sidequest chains in Lakeland.
(Text: You really are a most remarkable <women or man>. It is as if, by making your way through the world as you do, you bring together those around you, uniting them toward a common purpose.)
And these are just from the top of my head and screenshots I had on hand! (apologies for the mixed quality on those)
There are surely more examples out there and I may add to this post later if I find them, but yeah once again a very fascinating and excellent analysis!
