So, little QuarJake angst that I had to get out of my head.
(whether it’s your OTP or your favourite bromance, it doesn’t matter; it’s applicable in both cases).
Miles comes back as an avatar, has the memories of a younger version of himself and base stuff that keeps him from making emotional mush of himself and self-inflicting some kind of harm, or doing harm to others.
Then, thanks to those video diaries of reports they all made in the past, he and other reborns easily begin to understand some hidden or implicit things about themselves and use those memories as their own.
Miles? Well, Miles feels he can’t quite do that.
Unfortunately his more adult version wasn’t very personal in those videos (as shown in some of the Grace videos Kiri watches to meet her mother), and he only talks about different missions or groups of idiots he has to look after like children.
The few times he allowed himself to be personal is when it was about his perseption of some higher-ranking commando or when one of his soldiers interrupted his video report by mistake. When that happened, Miles would see an older version of him react stoically and somewhat annoyed at the interruption.
But not when that wheelchair-bound soldier mistakenly interrupted a couple of times. Miles could see the human version of him just stand still, snort softly, and in a less aggressive voice ask this Jake guy not to cut his “moment of inspiration” short.
That Jake would just give him a thumbs up and with a quick apology back up his chair to go somewhere else.
The same pattern was repeated on a couple of other occasions. But Jake’s name would gradually increase as the human Miles mentioned his accomplishments.
The avatar version didn’t understand what was so special about Jake, but if even Lyle didn’t appear so many times in his videos and was mentioned, Jake must be someone special to the human version.
Few by few good memories come to his mind of JAke being a great soldier and possible friend. Reucerda as always had a special regard for that man and considered his connection special.
He saw all this when they hadn’t yet landed on Pandora.
Miles thinks that if Jake is not with him in the space base, he should be in the new base that was reopened in Pandora, because moving a disabled person is not easy. Maybe he was waiting for him so they could pick up what was going on between them.
Miles arrives on Pandora, looking for Jake everywhere. Thinking that the little human would be happy to see him… somewhat blue, but alive.
All that excitement is destroyed when he learns that Jake turned to be a traitor.
And his new job was to eliminated him.
