The tail end of today's afternoon amazon storm. Rio negro Amazonas . #amazonrbr www.amazonrbr.com
The Amazon river starts hi up in the perusian alps and works it's way down into Brazil where it travels 6500 km to exit in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the largest water and forest basin in the world covering an area of 7,000,000 sq km and producing an estimated 80% - 90% of the worlds oxygen. There was a time many million years ago that the river flowed west and exited on the perusian side if South America, than when the alps formed it started flowing east. This river is the life force of all living things in the region and the world. #amazonrbr www.amazonrainforestbrazil.com #hostelforus www.hostelforus.com
We have several sites used to accommodate guests. Here are some traditional amazon cabins that the natives made from all wood. These can accommodate 1 - 5 people and we have many more available across our sites. #amazonrbr @amazonrbr http://amazonrainforestbrazil.com
Amazon Pelican It’s a real pleasure watching these birds fly. They just glide low level and all around us.
Amazon Anaconda
Ok, it’s not a trick photo. This anaconda is a bit domesticated. Fun to play with. In reality they are fast, so fast that you cant believe it and can grow up to 20 metres long. In fact they dont stop growing until they die of old age.

River Exploring and Relaxing As you probably gather this expedition was pretty laid back. We got some sun, took loads of photos and observed the forest.
Speed boat touring through the Amazon canals
Speed boat touring through the Amazon canals
We went through this in a speed boat with 8 people on board. It was fun to say the least, lots of bends and turns. This is the main passage way to a small port used by the communities for transporting goods.

Amazon Rubber Trees This is a rubber tree that's been cut into a few times for demonstrations. The white liquid coming out is the rubber.
Acai Berries straight from the tree
Acai Berries straight from the tree
Acai berries are native to the Amazon region. Acai is sold as a frozen pulp, juice or mixed with beverages. Acai berries come from the Acai Palm tree and are high in antioxidants and provide many health benefits. In 2005, an article published by Greenpeace International stated that “the tasty dark violet wine of açaí is the most important non-wood forest product in terms of money from the…

So remote yet so close. This typical 5.30am sunrise is easy to wake up for. The silence out here is amazing. Next week we go deeper into the jungle. #amazonrbr @amazonrbr Http://amazonrainforestbrazil.com
Amazon red haired spider
Amazon red haired spider
This spider we got got out of his hideout using a stick. I’m sure he has a really cool name but we called him Red Beard. The red hairs on its rear are the protection mechanism against all predators big or small. In a nutshell if anyone or anything breaths in a red hair from this spider its goodbye.

The water is so still here that it makes a mirror image of the trees. Hard to see where the tree stops and water starts. #amazonrbr @amazonrbr http://amazonrainforestbrazil.com
A nice relaxing river cruise, lazing around, piranha fishing, wildlife and plenty of photos. #amazonrbr @amazonrbr http://amazonrainforestbrazil.com
Lots of great people joined this tour. After lunch we get ready for the trek back to manaus. Loved the activities, food and people. #amazonrbr @amazonrbr Http://amazonrainforestbrazil.com
A new meaning to an outdoor BBQ . This is how best to dry manork on the huge outdoor log fire frying pan. #amazonrbr @amazinrbr http://amazonrainforestbrazil.com
Not so dense jungle walk The jungle isnt always dense and a mission to get through, there are some nice flat terrains to explore as well.
Parked at a secluded location
Parked at a secluded location
Not much around here. A nice river, lots of wildlife, peace and tranquility. This river is a small arterial off the main Amazon river negro, about 5 km inland.
