Backstory:

Her parents had immigrated to Anchorage while her mother was pregnant. Ambrosia will sometimes joke she was born in Alaska. However, instead she and her twin brother would join the world in New York, NY on New Years Day. Oleksio was the first born, and she would follow ten minutes later. Most people had fun childhoods, but hers were riddled with arguments and fights. It seemed to be concentrated on her mother, until that didn't seem to satisfy her father's temper. Ambrosia would endure her first broken bone at the age of six. The abuse would move to her brother, and the house of wrath would continue. Until he was arrested with connection to a local gang in New York. The twins had just turned thirteen, but the arrest held a promise. A rebirth into peace they hadn't endured before. At least, that's how the youngest of the twins felt. Little did she know that Oleksio would follow closer to their father's footfalls.

Ambrosia joined ROTC, and started to work on her defense. Ever since the absence of their father though, their twin bond already strained had broken entirely. No matter how she tried to reach out to him, it was as if she wasn't there. The signs were there, but she was raised with red flags. Who knew red was a color to be wary of?

The killings started in the neighborhood. Their mother had succumbed to alcoholism, but still told them to be careful. Suddenly her brother seemed to turn a new leaf. Happiness swirled and he even followed her to college once she figured out what she wanted to do.

Crime would follow them everywhere, but Ambrosia knew that there was no such place as a place without crime. Oleksio seemed to be growing out of his shell, and that made her happy. Sia wanted to pursue a career in helping people that were helpless as they had been. The murders slid under the radar, until those she grew close to started to ...disappear.

Ambrosia graduated and became a detective at the NYPD. Her father was released from prison, and because of that...both of her parents would meet their end. It alarmed Ambrosia at the funeral when her twin brother didn't seem to mourn openly. Then again, she understood that he was much more guarded with his emotions. After the death of her parents, she took a job opportunity to be a detective in Chicago. Death was at her heels, so many criminal sharks in the water and not enough lift boats. Oleksio would soon join her in Chicago working as a journalist. His reasoning was he didn't want to be alone in New York. She worked for Chicago as a detective for a few years, but became alarmed when the murders started to connect. The last piece of the puzzle was harder to figure out, and she spent most of her time obsessing over the case. Her first marriage ended in divorce due to this obsession to crack the case. The sun rose as she was able to nail down a location of where the next victim would be. Ambrosia and her partner would dispatch themselves to the location with one police officer. Her ex husband had been the victim, murdered in such a gruesome way it was personal. It was almost perfect to frame her, except they had caught the murder as they were fleeing. The police officer, and Ambrosia's partner would meet their end by the gunshots from the murderer. Just when she tried to unarm them from the side, her own world turned black. She would awaken in a room, the pain indescribable. But she could hear the arguments over the phone between her captor & the anonymous caller. Something about a message as the knife carved into her shoulder the gemini zodiac sign.

Much to her surprise, Oleksio showed up and shot the murderer point blank. A foreign expression on his face as he turned the gun on her. That's when it all clicked , Death didn't follow her everywhere.... Oleksio did. He kept the gun pointed but did loosen her restraints. "I just want to talk." Words she hadn't heard from her brother in ages. Ambrosia nodded as the crimson poured from her wounds. "You're going to stop. Ambrosia, I need you to stop."

Spoiler alert: She didn't. Fast forward: Everything had settled in Ambrosia's life, she was married again with two children. Promoted to Police Commissioner at the LAPD. That is until her husband was found dead a year ago. Maybe it wasn't Oleksio following her after all.

León leaned against the railing of the upper deck, a cigarette tucked behind his ear and a plastic cup of decent-enough bourbon in hand. The breeze off the water barely cut through the heat of the party, thick with body glitter and polyester and whatever punch someone had spiked way too hard below deck.

He hadn't moved much since arriving—just enough to grab a drink, dodge small talk, and find a vantage point to watch the night unfold like a slow car crash wrapped in gold lamé.

He took a sip, eyes tracking a passing group in matching paisley getups, and snorted under his breath.

"Bet half these people are two minutes away from passing out in a puddle of their own sweat," he muttered, more amused than concerned. "Who knew disco came with heatstroke?" A beat, then a glance sideways—“You here for the free booze, the view, or just lost on your way to Studio 54?” he asked, dry as ever, not quite smiling.

A glance given as someone got their bell bottoms stuck on a door. At least she was soberly amused for the time being. Cobalt gaze turned towards León as he spoke. "Probably, guess we're lucky they aren't the captain of the seas. Actually maybe I'd rather them be, would be a quick night for me in that case."

"I'm pretty sure that's why they call it Saturday Night Fever." She responded dryly with a slow shrug of her shoulders. "I'm working. What are you doing here?" She asked to the point. Not that she expected an honest answer.

"Why don’t you give us a smile, pretty? I’m sure it’ll make the food taste so much better," the cheeky remark reached her ears just as she set the final plate down before three rugged-looking men. Strangers, likely in their mid-forties, with the leader taking far too much interest in her as she pulled away from the table, her features unchanging. Her dark eyes shifted toward him as she answered his request in a flat, monotone voice. "How about you throw in a twenty for tips, and I’ll think about it." Delyse replied, her forced smile barely lifting the corners of her dark-painted lips.

Glances were exchanged around the table, a brief moment of thought passing through thick skulls before their leader flashed her a foul grin. "What will you do for me if I add another fifty?" A snake-like tongue slid over cracked lips, sending a slight shudder down her spine. Without hesitation, she twisted to look the man directly in the eye, not breaking the gaze for a single moment. As she bent to his level, her grin mirrored his—only hers was twice as venomous.

“I’ll make sure to break every single one of those teeth and send you home crying for your momma, pray you even make it out of that door should you choose to taunt me any further.” She let silence fall over the table—hell, maybe even half the bar—as she didn’t lower her voice. Three seconds. Five. Ten. She watched the man shrink before her, his attempts at laughter faltering as he tried, and failed, to maintain eye contact. Finally, she released him of her gaze, spinning on her heels and making her way back to the bar, indifferent to the eyes now on her. The regulars knew better than to mess with her, but the unfortunate, wayward traveler needed to be taught some manners the moment they walked in.

At the bar, another patron waited. She rounded the wooden counter and gave a slight nod of acknowledgment. "Sorry for the wait. How can I help ya?"

Ambrosia sat at the bar patiently, and pondered ordering a drink while she waited. Her attention slightly caught by the exchange of Delyse with the table. An arched brow given as she made a mental note about it. Quietly she glanced at the men that had been at the table, clocking them and making a mental check on her calendar to look them up when she got home.

Ambra nodded towards Delyse, "Everything alright?" She asked softly first. If things were good, Ambrosia would continue speaking. "I'd like to do a to-go order & grab a pint while I wait."

Who: Open Where: Golden Sands Beach When: Roughly a quarter to midnight

Perhaps it was late for a weeknight, but it didn't seem that way to Diego, who had always been more of a night person than a morning bird. Dawn came with more gentleness when you stayed awake to greet it instead of forcing your eyes to open with its light. Most days felt fairly the same, there was work to review, work to approve, work to check up on. It was always work in some form in some place, but having a similar day to day life didn't stop the night from being different. Overhead, the full moon flickered as Diego stared upwards from the lifeguard tower, clouds passing over it and making the image flicker. The only lunar eclipse of the year and the blood moon was stained red above the waves, at least until he stared too long and it seemed to morph, warping into a fat drop of liquid mercury in the sky. How the shadows made the moon seem so smooth and round, so metallic slick, was a question for someone with a science degree and not Diego, but he could still appreciate the sight. However, he didn't appreciate it so much that he was ignorant to his surroundings, the shifting of sand and splash of waves catching his attention. Glancing down, he could see a figure kicking at the waves, walking where the water ate away their footprints. "Not planning on a midnight swim, are you?" Diego called out, propping his arms on a wooden rail. "I might have to hum the Jaws theme if you are."

A mother's job was never done, and it tended to clash with being the Police Commissioner. She had contemplated letting her son nap to take him out to see the Eclipse. Instead she bargained with him, and called him see it before she bid him goodnight in their native tongue. "YA skoro budu vdoma." Ambrosia said with ease, she clicked off the call. Taking the moment to remove her shoes and feel the sand between her toes. She would venture further, but not enough to be fully emerged. The water splashed at her shins and that caused a genuine smile to spread across her lips. Head turned abruptly when she heard the voice, the smile instantly melted away behind her guarded exterior. "Not this late.." her voice trails off before she brings it back to course. "Unless it was for work." Ambra started to retreat a bit further towards her newfound company. "Are you not going to go swimming either? Perhaps you're doing some grounding exercises?"

Gabriel sat at the corner of the dimly lit bar, his fingers wrapped tightly around a glass of whiskey. The amber liquid swirled lazily, the ice cubes clinking softly with each subtle movement of the glass. He wasn’t really paying attention to it, though. He was lost in a swirl of thoughts, none of them particularly pleasant. The world around him blurred in a haze of distraction, the muffled chatter of the bar's patrons, the low hum of music, all distant noises—just noise.

The will. The fucking will.

His father’s final decision, written in cold, sterile ink, felt like a slap in the face. He hadn’t expected it—at least, not like this. Not Luciano. Gabriel’s younger brother. That arrogant, naive, self-important little shit who had never shown a fraction of the discipline or the dedication that Gabriel had spent his whole life developing. It was supposed to be him. Gabriel had trained for this his entire life. He had worked for it, sacrificed for it. Countless hours spent honing his craft, perfecting every detail, every move, every choice, every little thing that could have brought him closer to the seat his father had occupied.

He'd given everything to this. Everything. And now?

Now Luciano was supposed to be the one to take the reins?

The absurdity of it gnawed at him, the weight of betrayal sinking deeper with each passing second. Gabriel was disciplined. He had earned this. He wasn’t just a son. He was the heir. But in that will, his father had cast him aside like an afterthought, as if all those years of sacrifice meant nothing. It was like he hadn’t even mattered. Gabriel’s jaw tightened, and his knuckles whitened as he gripped the glass harder, the sharp sting of the ice pressing against the sides of his palm. It had to be some kind of mistake, right? It had to be a joke. His father had never once given any indication that it wouldn’t be Gabriel who took over. Not once. A laugh—an awkward, bitter sound—escaped his lips, and he couldn’t tell if it was a laugh or a sob. He hadn’t even noticed the person at the bar next to him until they stared at him a tad too long. Gabriel set the glass down a little too forcefully, the slight thud resonating in the silence between them. It was a rare night when the kids were safe away from the house. The house was too quiet without them though, and Ambrosia wasn't someone that was born into a quiet environment. She rather hated the silence that only made her spiral into her own misery. A complicated past ready to sting her like a scorpion, unless she moved.

The bar hadn't been her idea initially - dating apps. A new bane of her existence. Being stood up was also not on her docket. Yet after she had waited a decent amount of time outside, she felt it was good to call a ghost a ghost. It didn't make sense for her to drive all the way home to that stupid quiet house. A home tainted by death a year ago. Admittedly she hadn't really paid much attention to whom she sat next to. Bright blues flickered along the liquor selection with ease. Internally she mulled over what she was in the mood for. Meanwhile, her head had turned at an angle to stare through Gabriel. His little outburst and the lingering bartender snapped her out of it. First things first - she locked eyes with the bartender. "Bottle of Jameson." She answered simply. Waited a few minutes before she turned her attention fully to Gabriel.

"Funny, you must assume the world revolves around you. But this is a bar, babe. If you wanted solitary may I recommend the alley outside? You know the old saying, misery loves company. I'm off duty, don' t worry."

“You keep your door unlocked? What if someone breaks in?” Breslin called from the doorway as she pushed her shoes off with her toes with two cups of coffee precariously gripped in one hand and a paper bag of pastries held in the other. Stopping by her friend’s home a little after 8am was not a planned adventure, but she didn’t have anything pressing on the docket today, and the pair of them had been too swamped with the fallout from the gala to do much other than occasionally send an I’m alive text. This rare gap called for a spontaneous coffee date, plus enough pastries to share should her godchildren make an appearance. She had a reputation as favorite adult to maintain.

“You awake? Hello? I require attention,” she continued as she made her way through the familiar hallways of her best friend’s home and to the kitchen, her first impulse being to check there and drop off breakfast if she found it vacant. “I swear to God if you’re not here—“ she mumbled to herself as she continued to make herself at home as though she hadn't just intruded unannounced.

Ambrosia was equipped to handle most things under pressure, but some things fell through the crack. Sometimes she could be absent minded, when she heard the front door open her body tensed. She even paused doing her daughter's hair to retrieve her firearm while remaining silent. A finger over her lips, until the familiar voice rang out through the house. Ambra locked the firearm, and finished the ponytail in her daughter's hair as the child bounded past her. "I'll be out in a minute!" She called belatedly as Yeva darted with the quick reflexes of a three-year-old to greet her godmother with a fit of giggles. Her son had spent the night at a friend's house, even though she still wasn't sure that was a good idea.

"Damn, did I really leave the door unlocked?" She called out to her friend as she entered into the kitchen. A smile formed across her lips, "Well this is a whole lot better than the i'm alive texts." She sauntered over to pull her into a hug. "Shocking we both have time. Yeva dear, go play in your room."

The restraint it takes not to comment outright on 'double fisting' and 'loose holes' back to back speaks to Vince's professionalism. If there's a raise on the table he's fighting every instinct (and the brain of a fifteen year old) for it.

"I think, uh, a hell of a lot of people had something to gain from it." Which is obvious, but she's got him playing pest control more often than captain crackdown so give him a minute to think of something profound. "Caused too much of a spectacle for an inside job, though, right? I'd assume if it was just to shift the board around they'd do it somewhere less stupid than one of our shindigs." But then again, the whole concept of the Family's always read like attention starved drama queens to him.

"You hear more about that Hollow thing? Think that's legit?" His exposure has come in bits and pieces. Better to see where the LAPD's official stance is before he starts running his mouth. "I mean, with the yacht party coming up, it's a chance for shit to get ... wet 'n wild."

Ambrosia was still trying to recover from the sugar whiplash the monstrosity she drank gave her. There's still some semblance of coffee in there, so she took another drink trying to ignore the overabundance of sugar that flooded her instincts. It's fine, because the time it took her to recover it took him to answer her.

"I wouldn't rule out an inside job. It just takes one person to turn." Though was she playing devil's advocate, or was she purposefully feeding him something incorrect? Hard to say she even believes what she's spewing ,with the sugar high that drink gave her. "Not any more about the Hollow yet. I do believe it's legit in their message. I'm not entirely sold it's a mysterious figure or group we haven't dealt with before." Her head tilted at the latter comment, "That's right, sink or swim. I hope you can swim. If you can't..I think my kid has extra floaties."

Ellie was sitting cross-legged on her couch, the weight of the world on her shoulders but her gaze soft, distracted. She could hear the knock on the door, the sharpness of it pulling her out of her thoughts. She froze for a moment, then quickly stood up, smoothing out her clothes. Her heart skipped a beat—she knew exactly who it was. Ambrosia. She tried to brush away the nervous ache creeping up her spine. The last time Ambrosia had visited, things had been... complicated. The way she looked at Ellie, with a mix of concern and authority, always made Ellie feel like a fragile thing under a magnifying glass.

“Uh... coming!” Ellie called out, trying to sound calm, though her voice cracked a bit. She opened the door slowly, making sure to stand just a little behind it. When her eyes met Ambrosia’s, she could feel her stomach twist. “Hi, Officer... uh, Commissioner,” Ellie said, her voice small, but polite. She smiled, hoping to seem normal. But her hands fidgeted, twisting around the hem of her shirt, like they always did when she was nervous. “Everything’s... um, okay, right?” She glanced down, her breath shaky for a moment. “I don't really know anything about the Gala, if that’s what you're here for," Ellie added quickly, her words tumbling out, trying to be convincing but sounding almost like she was pleading. “I’ve been keeping to myself lately... not... not much going on.” She couldn’t meet Ambrosia’s eyes for too long. Instead, she focused on a little spot on the floor, trying not to let her anxiety get the best of her. There was that soft, familiar tug in her chest, reminding her that she wasn’t the easiest person to figure out. And she hated that Ambrosia always seemed to be the one trying.

Ambrosia leaned her ear against the door to try to dissect noises from behind. It didn't sound like a weapon being loaded, though she wouldn't really imagine Ellie being that type of criminal. Also didn't seem like she could hear the multiple sounds of scurrying feet. Her eyes darted down to the few notes she had in the file. Hacker. Possible connections to The Hollow. Some may think so, especially with her skills.

She had to dot all her t's when it came to this. A breath sucked in through her teeth after she heard the voice from the other side of the door. Then the door opened, and she was face to face with the younger woman. Her brows lifted with slight curiosity, though her eyes were full of skepticism. "Just checking in as part of your parole, Miss Watson." Ambrosia murmured and gestured with her hand to the apartment behind her.

"Mind if I take a look inside?" Her weight shifted from one hip to the other , as she leaned to the side. "Not much going on, hm? What has been going on?" Ambrosia inquired as her eyes honed back onto Ellie.

Did she have a reason to feel disappointment?

The door clicks shut with a heel kick and a brow waggle - he's come bearing gifts. Two piping hot paper cups of break room coffee find a home amongst the stacks on her desk. One is some bastardized sugar situation (he went a little overboard) and the other equal parts Redbull and bean water (it's about efficiency, not flavor - kidney failure is for pussies). Ambrosia can roulette a taste test to figure out which one's hers.

"Can confirm the suspect was taken into custody with minimal injury to the responding officer --" he flashes the band-aid on his wrist for proof, " -- and the victim will rest easy knowing the streets are safe once again." Pause. "Or at least his front yard is. Whatever works."

She didn't call him in here to be a shithead but that's sort of par for the course. He sprawls into the opposite seat with a grunt, eyeing the file in her hands. "How was yours?"

"You double fisting coffee or are one of those mine?" She didn't actually wait for him to answer. Because she knew she needed this caffeine to be someone alert with this conversation. The files forgotten as she placed them on her desk. Different names handwritten on them, some of them well known and others... not so much.

She quickly shot it into her mouth and was filled with instant regret. Bright blues clasped shut and reopened as her lips puckered slightly. "My god." A cough sharp cutoff her words. "I think I sovled the murder of the sugar plum fairy. Fucking Christ." Her eyes narrowed at him skeptically, but turned to the bandaid on his hand.

Ambra turned her head to cough once more - christ he had to have measured with his feelings and not his eyes. Bless his heart. A glance to the bandaid. "That's great that no fatal injuries occurred." she cleared her throat. She sat down in the seat across from him and tapped the files on the desk. "I've been going over the case at the Gala. There are so many loose holes about it. I gathered some intel on some mercenaries, but it's hard to say if it was truly a power move or not. What do you think?"

Ambrosia was running off of half a can of red bull and a Twizzler. She had questioned so many people about the Gala, and everything had seemed so far to lead to dead ends. Even the other detectives and police officers didn't seem to be getting much intel on what was happening. She couldn't leave it be, that was one of her faults. Say what they want about the police commissioner, but she could be relentless in her efforts.

Ambra's eyes glanced down at the last parolee she had on her list to check in on for today. She remembers the name well, and the ability to hack. Could Ellie be a part of this? Only one way to find out. The woman got in her car and drove to the last address on file. With a soft sigh, she walked up to the residence, and knocked on the door.

"Miss Watson? Police. Open up."

It was late and they just finished a case after a tough week. He was exhausted and starving but all he wanted was greasy diner food so Sunset Grill it was. This was his go to spot in town, his favorite diner. In some odd sense it reminded him of home, it reminded him of the diner his parents owned. Sunset Grill was the perfect place around this time, it was quiet and no one was ever in there. This quaint little diner was the perfect spot for him to sit down and write in the journal that he always writes in before meeting Ambrosia there. Getting there a bit earlier than she had, he took out his pen and journal and began writing. He hasn't wrote in it all day like he normally does, as the waitress who was normally his came and placed his cup of coffee in front of him Cooper was in deep. He couldn't stop the pen from moving, the pen from going and his mind from going. It was a tough week and as Cooper was lost within his thoughts he almost didn't hear the bell ring, but then looked up and smiled once he saw the blonde standing there "Got here a bit earlier than you." Was all Cooper could say quietly and then took a deep breath "I ordered us coffee. Should be alcohol but they sadly don't sell that here."

Work was a nightmare following the disaster. All the different criminal pieces were scattered, and she couldn't find her head in the right place. Nor, could she keep track of those at the station she was suspicious of as she had before. Cooper was a trusted confidante from when they worked together in New York. A rookie that learned from her, and she needed those extra set of eyes in Los Angeles. The city was full of fallen angels, and redemption was being given sparingly. She walked into the familiar diner, and pocketed the cell phone that had been in her hands mere minutes prior. "Sorry that took me a few extra minutes. I had to make sure the kids were listening to the sitter."

A chuckle left her lips as she fell into the seat across from him. The warm coffee enough to bring her closer to being awake. " Sometimes, I swear you read my mind. What a day, feels like a week and it' has only been ...eh ten hours. Did you need a few more minutes to finish up by the way?" Ambrosia gestured to the journal, just in case he wanted a few more minutes of privacy to finish.
