“Wakey, wakey eggs and bakey” Steve smiled at the little girl pulling the covers over her head. “Dad no…” she grumbled which made him laugh. He pulled the purple covers away and gave her a kiss on her blonde bedhead. “Come on! It’s the first day in your new school. Get up, get dressed and then you’re going to eat what daddy cooked for you.” he smiled at her.
After that one mission he almost died on, Steve called it quits. He buried all of his Captain America suits under his bed and the shield was now some wall decoration. He decided to adopt a little baby girl. If the fait wouldn’t give him a wife and kids he had to play fait himself. One day he went to a orphanage and fell in love with this little girl. He perhaps used his Captain America being to adopt her even though he didn’t had a wife.
The first few years he lived with her in the Avengers Tower but he decided that he wanted to move to Brooklyn with her. After Bucky helped him to search a apartment, he moved which meant that little Ginny - Yes you heard right. Ginny, as in Ginny Weasley from Harry Potter. Steve kinda enjoyed the movies and books more than he would admit. He told his friends she was already named like that but in reality he named her like that. - had to switch school.
Little pads on the kitchen floor made him smile instantly. “So do I get eggs and bacon?” Ginny sat down at the table. “Of course.” he handed her a plate with her breakfast. “What do you want to take with you for lunch?” Steve sat down across from her and ate his breakfast as well. “I don’t know…” she murmured. Her hair still sticking out in every direction. She wore a blue dress which was her favourite as Steve knew because it was in the laundry more often than anything else in this house. “Oh I think we’re out of I don’t know but I’ll call Uncle Tony to see if he still has some.” Ginny let out a chuckle. “Just chose something dad” she smiled at him and his grin grew even wider.
Adopting this little girl was the best decision he ever made. Even though his friends all thought he was crazy to do so. She was the first thing in years to make him genuinely truly happy. His heart beating faster whenever she laughed, whenever she cried, whenever she hurt herself. Steve loved every inch about her and he would do everything to make her happy. That poor boy who would date her one day.
“Alright. Comb your hair and get your stuff we have to go soon.” he smiled and put the plates in the sink. While she patted away he packed her lunch and got dressed himself. He switched his sweatpant to a pair of blue jeans and put on one of his leather jackets just to be greeted by the beautiful smile of Ginny waiting for him at the door. “I see you’re wearing the shoes Auntie Tasha got you” Steve smiled as he slipped in his sneakers. “Yeah they’re my good luck shoes!” she smiled. “Well then your first day will be amazing!” he smiled, took her hand and left the apartment complex with her.
The warm morning breeze greeted both of them as they made their way through the busy streets of Brooklyn. “So Auntie Tasha and Uncle Clint are visiting us this afternoon. Which pie should I make?” Steve asked as he waited for the traffic lights to turn green. “Mhm… apple pie!” she smiled at him. “It’s our favourite after all. And Uncle Clint eats everything as long as there’s enough coffee.” she added quickly which made a laugh escape Steve’s lips. “You’re right. Apple pie it is then” he smiled as the school became visible in the distance. “Look there it is” he pointed towards the school. “Yeah… it… looks nice.” Ginny squeezed his hand. “Don’t be nervous muffin. You’ll do great! And you’ll find friends.” he gave her a reassuring smile. “Daddy?” “Yeah?” “What if the other kids don’t like me?” Steve let out a laugh. “Well then they’re pretty dumb to not like the most amazing girl in the world!” he picked her up in his arms and pressed a kiss to her cheek. She gave him a smile. “Do you come in with me?” she pressed her little hands on his cheeks and looked him in the eyes. As a person who does not know that Ginny is adopted you could think she is his daughter. “Well that’s the instruction for the first day. That the parents come in as well.” he smiled. “Do you think they will see that you are who you are?” she gave him a quick kiss on his nose. “I don’t know… maybe.. We’ll see” he smiled and continued to walk to the school.
Steve sat down in a chair in the back of the class, visibly uncomfortable as all the mothers tried to flirt with him. Steve hasn’t been on dates… well… since… 1945? He never had time for it and never really found the right girl for it. And all these married women who were now gushing about him made him nervous. He was not really used to it. He gave them a polite smile and prayed to god that the teacher soon would enter the classroom. His eyes landed on his little muffin who seemed to find a few new friends. Steve let out a sigh of relief. He would never say anything but he was really afraid she wouldn’t find friends.
“Good Morning class!” a brown haired women entered the room. Her red dress fitted her red lipstick which left stains on her teeth. All in all this women had more makeup on her face than Natasha probably ever used in her whole life. “I’m your new teacher Mrs. Miller.” her voice was horrible and Steve suddenly had the need to jump out of the window.
The first lesson proceeded and Steve had to introduce himself. He got out of his seat and walked in front of the class just to give everyone a nervous smile. “Uhm… hey everyone… I’m Mr. Rogers… the dad of Ginny over there and currently I am… not working. I’m a stay at home dad.” he smiled at the class and Ginny gave him a thumbs up like he did when she introduced herself. “And your wife? Why is she not here with your daughter? Why isn’t she staying at home?” the shrill voice of the teacher asked. All the mothers in the back of the class suddenly were even more interested in Steve. “There… is no Mrs. Rogers… I.. I adopted Ginny and raised her alone” he looked at the teacher still trying to be as polite as possible. “One of the most dangerous persons in the universe, who killed million of people, who destroyed half of New York and Washington adopted a child and raised it? The poor soul of this young girl. I hope she’s not a disaster like you are!” the teacher didn’t even look at him. Steve stood there a little shocked but pressed his lips together trying not to make a scene on the first day.
After the first lesson the parents where ought to leave. The mothers made their way out of the room waving their goodbyes. Steve stopped in front of Ginny going down on his knees. Her hands found his cheeks again. “Don’t worry daddy. You’re not a disaster!” she kissed his nose quick and hugged him tight. “I’ll get you after school okay? I’ll wait outside… by the tree” he whispered hugging her close. “I love you” he kissed her forehead and left the room just as the bell rang. He walked through the empty halls, caught in his thoughts. This teacher didn’t had the right to say things like that. Those things happened while he was trying to save people. He buried his hands in the pockets of the jeans he wore and crossed a corner as suddenly someone bumped into him.
“Oh my god… I’m so sorry” the young women in front of him kneeled on the ground and collected a bunch of papers who were spread on the whole floor. “No… I… it was my fault.” Steve kneeled down and helped her collecting the papers. “I was caught in my head and didn’t really payed attention…” he handed her a stack of paper as her (e/c) eyed meet his deep blue ones. She opened her mouth to say something but closed them again just to continue to stare at him. Never in her life had she seen someone so attractive. Sure she had seen him in television but he was breathtaking in real life. “Uhm… well it's… the mistake from both of us…” she managed to bring out through her parted lips. “I’m Steve?” he extended his hand, never breaking eye contact. “Steve? Are you sure? Because it doesn’t really sound like that.” she let out a chuckle and took his hand. “(Y/N) or Miss (L/N)” she smiled. “Yeah I’m pretty sure my name is Steve.” he laughed and helped her up on her feet. “So you’re a teacher?” he smiled at her. Boy that smile could light up the whole world. “Yeah… you’re a parent of one of the kids?” she gave him her best smile. “Yeah… Ginny Rogers. Class 4b” he smiled. “Oh that’s so nice. I’m teacher in 4a… how do you like Mrs. Miller?” she smiled, her class waiting for her completely forgotten. “To be honest? No. She called me a disaster…” he let out a sigh. “Well… I don’t think you’re one Steve… but I can understand you. She’s horrible.“ she smiled at him. “Oh… uhm I need to go to my class now… I hope to see you soon.” she smiled and continued her little run towards her class. Steve stood there for a moment, staring towards the way she just ran.
Back home in his apartment Steve made the apple pie for the afternoon and started to clean the whole flat. After an hour he was done and had nothing to do. Back in the tower he had at least one person to talk to but now he was alone. The words of Mrs. Miller crept back into his head. This women had no right to judge him like that. He wondered how she would treat Ginny. Would she treat her bad just because she is his daughter? He let out a sigh and wondered if she could switch class to (Y/N). She was much nicer and really pretty. Steve spend the rest of the day drawing, reading and finding himself in a phone call with Tony asking him what he’s doing and actually enjoying listening him explaining science things to him. As soon as it was time he left his apartment and made his way to his daughter’s school. The way wasn’t that long and a ten minute walk later he found himself under the tree in front of the school. A few mothers greeted him which he politely returned.
Steve watched children leave the school keeping a close eye on the entrance to see when his little muffin would finally come out. After about 10 minutes most of the children were already gone and there was still no sign of Ginny. Steve got worried and made his way into the school. He walked through the hallway to the classroom of his little one only to meet (Y/N) discussing with Mrs. Miller. “I just can’t believe you called youth welfare service because you can’t stand her father!” (Y/N) crossed her arms. “Honey. For your information it is not how it is meant to be that this little girl has no mother. And living with that thing…” “He is no thing! He’s a person, a human. Like you and me! And it is completely normal! Where are you from the dark age?!” (Y/N) cut her off. “You called the youth welfare service?” Steve crossed his arms as he approached the two women. “Oh.. Mr. Rogers. Yes I did. I just think Ginny is not living a good live with you. She deserves better.” Mrs. Miller smiled at him. “They should be here any minute now.” she added and Steve would have loved to slap that smile out of her face. “Where is she?” Steve walked towards the classroom only to be stopped by Mrs. Miller. “Never in my whole life I was disrespected like this! Let me go to my daughter or we will have a serious problem!” Steve almost shouted at her. “I can’t do that. Sorry” she smiled at him, certainly not sorry.
As the lady from youth welfare service came they all headed in one room. A short talk and the lady came to the conclusion that Ginny would be better off in another family. “With all respect I think Ste… Mr. Rogers is a great father and Ginny is really ha…” “This is none of your business Miss (L/N)!” Mrs. Miller spat. (Y/N) was desperate to help Steve and his broken figure hurted her more than anything ever did. Just the thought of losing Ginny made him wanna cry. “Actually it is” Ginny who sat quietly next to her dad the whole time finally said. “She’s daddys finance!” she smiled at Miss (L/N) and Steve. “I’m sorry for telling the secret daddy…” she added quickly, pulling her best puppy face. Steve’s eyes went wide and he was about to apologize as (Y/N) gave Ginny a kiss on the cheek. “No problem flower. I’m sure daddy is not mad at you.” she smiled and hoped Steve would play along.
“You’re engaged to him?” Mrs. Miller asked shocked as if (Y/N) was insane. “Yes I am. We just… wanted to keep it a secret for a while.” she looked at the women with too much makeup serious. “Yeah me and my fiance didn’t want to catch too much attention.” Steve finally said, grabbing (Y/N)’s hand to make it trustworthy.
After a 30 minute talk in which (Y/N) and Steve pulled off the perfect show they left the school with Ginny. “Thank you so much” Steve smiled at her still holding her hand in his strong one. “It’s no problem really… I… just couldn’t let that women take Ginny… she’s so happy with you” (Y/N) smiled at him. “Uh…” she slowly removed her hand. “I have to go in that direction… so I guess I see you tomorrow?” She pointed in a direction. “No… we have to go there too” Ginny smiled. “Why don’t you come over? Daddy makes the best apple pie in the world. And auntie Tasha and uncle Clint will love you for helping daddy” she smiled brightly at the women in front of her. “Oh… I’m not really sure… but maybe tomorrow? When there… are no avengers around maybe” (Y/N) seemed kinda nervous and Steve’s heart swoll with love. This woman was so kind and lovely and perfect. And maybe just maybe he could see a future with her.
