Keyleth might not be a character perfectly specced out for maximum combat skills, but she's so important for the RP, and for the group's dynamic, and I love both her and Marisha dearly.

ME TOO NONNY!!!!! she’s such a great character to toss into this group of trickers and pragmatists and it’s unfortunate that this wellspring of RP depth and goodness gets her such a bad rep because it’s so much fun to watch her stop VM in their tracks to make her point (I keep thinking of Neville Longbottom tbh? “It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but even more to stand up to your friends” like that’s so Keyeth? I die?)

plus Druids are great support classes (when you bring the right spells) and Marisha always has such interesting tactics and ideas (even when they don’t work out) and even when she goes tank there’s the potential for really interesting character stuff (keyleth as air vs keyleth as stone? longevity vs flexibility? balance? idk I just love all the possibilities of nature symbolism) and yes anyways the point is I Love and Adore Kiki and Marisha in equal measure

When I was training to be a battered women’s advocate, my supervisor said something that really blew my mind:

“You can always assume one thing about your clients; and that is that they are doing their best. Always assume everyone is doing their best. And if they’re having a day where their best just isn’t that great, or their best doesn’t look like your best, you have to be okay with that.”

Any now whenever anyone in my life, either a friend or a client, frustrates me, disappoints me, or pisses me off, I just tell myself They are doing their best. Their best isn’t that great today, but I have days where my best isn’t that great either.

The 1812 version of Snow White is even worse when you consider that the girl was only seven years old in the tale (plus her unconscious body ended up being carted around by the prince until one of his servants accidentally woke her up).  Also, in The Little Mermaid, the mermaid’s unable to speak because she had her tongue cut out >__<

But I’d love to see faithful adaptations of the original tales.  Especially Bluebeard.  We need a Bluebeard adaptation.

Actually, the original-original pre-Grimm Brothers’ stories that were passed around Europe via oral tradition are nowhere near as violent as the Grimm’s made them. Cinderella’s stepsisters were never ugly and kept their eyes, Snow White’s mother was not even a villain (instead a group of bandits were), and instead of spending the whole story napping Sleeping Beauty outwitted a dangerous bandit leader, wouldn’t let him sleep with her, and saved herself. 

The original oral stories were radically changed by the Brothers Grimm to fit their personal and political beliefs. Most notably, they often added in female characters solely for the purpose of making them evil villains and took away most of the heroines’ agency and intelligence. Both brothers belonged to a small fanatical sect of Catholicism that vilified women because of the idea of Original Sin and Wilhelm in particular had a particularly deep hatred of women. The Grimms were actually pretty horrible people. Those cannibalistic queens and ugly stepsisters and the mass amount of violence against women didn’t exist until the Grimms wanted them to. Their ideas stuck so soundly though that we now assume they were in the original tales and that these terrible characters and ideas come out of some perceived barbaric Old World culture. But in truth they’re really the Grimms’ weird obsession with hating women showing through. The original oral folklore focused on the heroes’ and heroines’ good deeds and used them as ways to teach cultural norms and a society’s rules and encouraged girls to be quick-witted and street-savvy instead of passive princesses, and the Grimms promptly stripped that all away.

Not only that, you’re skipping out a really important thing: the brother’s grimm got those tales from WOMEN, women were the ones who would tell these tales orally and the brother’s grimm took them, altered them to be sexist and never gave the women credit. Cosplay breakdowns in preparation for cosplaying with @watercolorsheep this spring. Unfortunately I can’t make up my mind between Vex and Cassandra, so opinions and feedback are appreciated. For Cass I could use my Colonial reenactment undergarments and would only need to make a coat and waistcoat, really. On the other hand, Vex is so much fun and I already have a great pattern for her surcoat, and the whole thing would require less tailoring, but more new pieces.

Thousands of protestors in Vancouver came out today against Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion. November 19th, 2016.

If the Canadian Government approves this pipeline its going to get really ugly.

The people of Western Massachusetts and surrounding communities were able to stop a Kinder Morgan pipeline here through months and months of protest and opposition! If they can do it here they can do it there!

Activists say the project will have consequences for the land title and rights of First Nations communities, increase tanker traffic and risk for environmental disasters on B.C.’s coast, and worsen Canada’s impact on climate change. In a statement, Kinder Morgan writes it respects the right of peaceful protest, but its engagement with the communities over five years has made their project “stronger and safer.” “Metro Vancouver has voted against it, the Lower Mainland and local governments have voted against this, the city of Vancouver has been adamant – no has to be the decision. Is this the same pipeline as DAPL or a different one?

Its different. DAPL = Dakota Access Pipeline, which is in the USA. DAPL is owned by Dakota Access; This pipeline is owned by Kinder Morgan.

This pipeline project is an expansion of the existing Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain Pipeline which runs from Alberta to Burnaby (on the west coast of Canada). If built It would almost triple the output of the pipeline, dramatically increasing oil tanker traffic on the west coast.

But there are a lot of similar issues with these 2 projects.

-Both intrude onto indigenous lands without consent from these native communities. BC itself is almost entirely unceded indigenous land, which makes the lack of consent and consultation disgraceful.

-Both pipelines threaten water in the event of a spill (which is likely given Kinder Morgan’s track record). A spill in the Vancouver area would devastate the city as it prides itself on tourism and environmentalism. And a spill in a first nation could destroy water sources and the way of life (ability to harvest food, live off the land, etc)

Since this is going around again, an update:

Justin Trudeau gave approval for this pipeline on November 29th, 2016.

People are fighting back. There’s been daily protests, and Environmentalists, First Nations and municipalities are vowing to continue to resist this pipeline. There’s already crowdfunding being done to pay for upcoming lawsuits against the pipeline.

Today the BC New Democratic Party (NDP) leader, John Horgan said on the record that if he is elected premier that he will not support this pipeline under any circumstance. The BC NDP is one of the big political parties in BC so there’s a very real chance they could be elected in the 2017 election.

So in my 3D class there’s another kid named Roy, which is my name.

Also in 3D class, we aren’t allowed to listen to music.

So I was talking to our professor and Roy walked by with earbuds in and the professor said “Roy, take those things out of your ears” and I took my hearing aids out of my ears and said “sorry”.

That is the greatest joke I have ever told and no one laughed and I honestly feel so under appreciated rn.

Honestly that joke made being deaf completely worth it and I am an unappreciated comedic genius of my time.
