if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

someone sitting at home alone, an active alcoholic, squandering your charity, drinking all day is better situation than a street homeless alcoholic. someone using drugs in your charity house is better than them doing the same w no shelter

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

I think a lot of transmisogyny stems from this idea that people are really scared to see a dick. The reason bathrooms and locker rooms and hot springs keep being flash points is because these are all places where if a trans woman is using them, it's possible you might see her dick. A lot of transmisogynistic humor revolves around being traumatized because the subject saw a woman with a penis. And look, to a certain extent I sympathize. I'm not a fan of dick; I dont want this thing either. But if you want to be an ally to trans women, I think a big important step you can take personally is to examine your own reaction to the scenarios I described above, and recognize that a dick is just a body part a girl has sometimes. Seeing it as inherently sexual and/or traumatizing is a major wedge conservatives use to justify their rhetoric

Please go vote in the midterms!!

The midterms will be held on November 3rd and it’s important that as many people as possible get out and vote. The midterms may seem like they aren’t as important as the presidential elections, but they are actually a golden opportunity: if we can nominate more democrat representatives in the house and the senate, it could significantly impede Trump’s ability to pass more discriminatory, violent, and unconstitutional laws.

There are so many horrible things Trump has done but on my blog I’m focusing on the trans military ban and his more general anti-trans policies both because I don’t see it talked about enough and because I have the most firsthand experience with it. Many military members now risk losing all their benefits if they are outed as trans or choose to transition, even after they have completed the active duty portion of their contract. A service member who is outed as trans can be involuntarily discharged which also impacts future job opportunities. Additionally, more measures have been implemented recently to try to find trans people hiding in the ranks. Medical screening questionaires now include a question about history of gender dysphoria, and confidentiality in mental health services is no longer guranteed if being trans comes up. This is just speculation, but it also seems like more mental health personnel and counselors are asking for service members pronouns and probing more if they mention LGBTQ+ affiliation in any form.

It is obvious Trump wants to erase trans military members with a double bind: either by creating a military seemingly devoid of trans people, reinforcing the perception that trans people aren’t cut out for service, or by saying that if service members were able to live as their assigned sex to avoid losing their jobs, dysphoria and transness itself aren’t actually real issues.

If you care about trans people, please remember trans military members, many of whom joined to get out of bad environments, with the promise that they would get to transition, before the current administration took over.

This midterm election, let’s do our part to protect the livelihood, stability, and legacy of trans service members, and protect the broader trans community as a whole. (If you haven’t seen the latest notes on anti-terrorism from this administration please look it up, the language used for trans people is terrifying)

my close friend from uni was a cis girl who had the audacity to wear pants and cut her hair short and like nobody at this school, a place OBSESSED with ‘respecting everyone’s gender identities,’ would call her ‘she.’ after MONTHS of this she started wearing a fucking pronoun pin to work and i dont even think that fixed it. me, im sorta androgynous; i have shaggy self-cut hair and go by a neutral name, but i always say my pronouns are she/her, and people ive worked with for months and have introduced myself in front of fifty times will STILL reflexively say ‘they’ for me. i respect the progressive circles i run in, but this IS evidence of misogyny. people’s definition of “woman” or “girl” is so narrow and high-maintenance that even the tiniest deviation from the norm gets you forcibly defeminized. but it’s a compliment, right? like who would wanna be a girl anyway?
