Fondness
The fandom perception of Alastor confuses me so much actually. Quite literally quite simply quite obviously the Main Theme/Entire Point of Hazbin is "the key to redemption is allowing love to motivate you instead of fear" and then ppl will deadass look at The Guy Who's Motivated Entirely By Fear Always and is A Main Character and is So So So Fucking Lonely because he had one genuine friendship ever and allowed his fear to destroy it and go "yeah he's an endgame villain, he will never get better actually"
It does make me a lil sad that Alastor, a man notorious for feeling as if he needs no one, goes out of his way to endure discomfort for his fr*ends.
He puts up with Box Vox's shoulder touching despite it being uncomfortable.
He let's Niffty crawl all over him. We know he likes her and that she doesn't do it to make him uncomfortable, but we also know he's not a fan of touching.
He let's Mimzy bring tons of problems his way and clearly uses him for personal gain, a dynamic that might have been present during their time on Earth. Had it not jeopardized the terms of his deal with Rosie and her personal interest in the hotel, he would have let this lopsided dynamic continue.
There's a lot of underlying/historical/possibly traumatic reasons why he does this. I have a few theories, but this was merely an interesting observation.
THIS!!!
this man doesn't know how to set boundaries with those he's considering close to him. He'll let them do whatever, put up with anything, until he snaps and goes all "THERE ARE NO FRIENDS IN HELL VINCENT"
I'm so. Interested in your theories, but i have some too. But basically during his life being compliant and convenient for other people was the only way to survive and get to where he wanted to be. Now in Hell he doesn't have to do it to survive, he can just scare anyone, and no one is really a threat to him. But it comes with the downside of being lonely. And for an extroverted person like Alastor it's hard. Not many people are willing to risk their life and just come up to him and talk. That's why he allowed Vox to get close. Because he was extremely lonely and wanted at least some connection.
So he's playing nice for people he likes, because he's subconsciously afraid, that if he tries to set any boundaries, those people will leave him, and he'll be alone again. That's why he wouldn't kill Vox, because even in current times they have that fucked up toxic connecrion that allows Alastor to feel less lonely.
Also, on the topic, Alastor mocking Vox for having a team and relying on others isn't projecrion, like some like to say. It's envy. He wants that too, he wants to have friends, equals, who would support him as he supports them, but he is also too afraid to let anyone close enough to form that kind of connection.
Serious matters
Knowing now that the Extermination is more recent than we thought, imagine how terrifying Alastor must have been when he could kill permanently Sinners way before the knowledge of angelic steel's existence was common
I wrote a post a while ago going into just how terrifying Alastor actually is, and the fact that he was like this before the Exterminations even started (which is a WHOLE other thing I'd like to talk about), no wonder his name inspired so much fear.
Here's the post -> right here <- I went and found it :3
So, thinking about this again.
In light of the recent episodes, we found out the Exterminations have only been happening for 7 years (which, WOW, that was a surprise, I thought they'd been going on for way longer), and Alastor's been gone for 7 years, so did he just
Did he just not have to deal with them? Ever?
Was the bi-annual Extermination with Adam the first one he's ever experienced?
Alastor said he'd been running all over Hell on some "fruitless crusade" but no one in Pentagram City knew where he was, or heard a peep from him, so it was unlikely he was actually in the city (makes you wonder where in Hell he was), and I'm just
Guy did not have to deal with that shit at all. He experienced one Extermination and got his shit wrecked, and I find that so funny. He really just strolled into that Overlord meeting, doo-da-doo, listening to Carmilla talk about how thousands of souls were killed, sitting there like he was present for all of it.
I love how he continues to bullshit his way through the plot, he's my idol. My role model. He's the embodiment of "fake it till you make it," and I strive to achieve that level of clownery.
It's giving "I am So Fucking Tired I slept in a God Damn Office Chair for a Bloody Week and had to Manipulate Mansplain Manwife my way through Three Fucking Deals and a Throuple Therapy in a spawn of one week just to get my Stupid Fucking Stick fixed I am so Fucking Ready to take every classical substance known to a 30s man and Black The Fuck Out for at least A Month I literally Never want to hear Any Word beginning with a V ever again."

Apothiaroace Alastor
I drew this somewheve at the beginning of june and was going to post after i finish IF, but next part is going to take longer than i thought to finish, so, i'm going to post some pride month stuff, because pride month is almost over LOL
I'm pretty sure apothisexual Alastor is canon lol. Whether you like it or not.
Alastor drawings inspired by the extraordinary robert ‘silk’ mason
Bro has no clue what the fuck is going on but he'll tag along
Also I love how very similar Alastor and Charlie's clothes are
Don't worry the audience extrapolated it back out. You zip the file and communicate it, they unzip it.
This is the best explanation of the reader's contribution to art I've ever heard.
