Genuinely the phrasing of gender identity as self identified is so fucking transphobic to me
like these all came from a socialist orgs compendium for voting for leadership, and while yes, the answers from what I understand were self filled out, attaching Self Identified to the labels is fucking disgusting since it implies that people aren't actually that identity
JUST SAY "nonbinary person of color", Self identified does nothing but raise the identity as something that we are supposed to not be sure of
Nonbinary people don't "self identify" as nonbinary, you just are nonbinary.
And NO, the fact they attached self identified to the cis people does not solve this problem
This phrasing is extremely common when talking about people in scientific contexts, and I’d bet that the person who wrote this is used to writing in that context. It does not imply that the person is lying when used in a clinical context. It communicates and emphasizes to the reader that the trait being described is one provided by the subject and not one that the researcher assumed. This might be especially relevant if the results might have a temporal element, because something like one’s self-identified gender can change while the person stays the same, and saying something like “we had x males last year and this year we only have x-y” could in fact be transphobic if the people answering the survey didn’t change. It also allows for greater respect for someone’s chosen representation, like for trans people who wish to self-identify as their gender without the “trans” prefix (they are just as valid as any other trans person and their chosen presentation should be respected in these contexts), or for a non-binary person who presents heavily in one direction or another who a researcher might misgender if they relied on their own judgment. It gives maximum agency to the subject. And it does this for any trait being addressed, because it ain’t just gender that this language is used to described (age, race/ethnicity, cultural background, place of birth, etc etc etc).
As far as transphobia and TERFs and all that… look. Transphobes (And other bigots) very famously appropriate the language of academia in order to make their points sound better, but that does not mean that people with an academic background who use that language are transphobic (or otherwise bigoted), any more then someone who drinks milk is a Nazi because some Nazis tried to make drinking milk into their thing. It is also important to differentiate between academic/clinical language and common language when judging a writer’s intent, because as we can see clinical language often sounds kinda bad when interpreted as though it were common.
did perfectionism ever truly protect you from harm or neglect as a child though. ultimately. Lol
[REALLY NORMAL AND WELL-ADJUSTED VOICE] well you never know maybe it COULD have saved me. if i ever actually achieved perfection. it could have happened then. if i was actually ever enough. Which i was not
"There's no hope for the future." And that's how they felt during the Atomic Age, during the World Wars, during the Enlightenment Revolutions, during thr plagues, during the Viking raids, during the fall of Rome.
Yet, we persisted.
CS Lewis had something to say about this
Been feeling a bit hopeless of late. Wasn't expecting to stumble across a quote that would fundamentally alter my perspective and make me cry during my lunch break but here we are
This is an excellent sentiment.
Nevertheless, we persisted :)
ornithological jurisprudence | jack abbot
jack abbot x f!attorney!reader | 3k words | ao3
synopsis: bothering jack abbot is your specialty, fuck whatever your actual job is.
content: swearing, medical inaccuracy obviously--sue me I'm in law not medicine, minor gaslighting but only un poquito, jack cant even be mad at reader LMFAO he is so whipped. but like he can though. but also in the moment he cant. he just needs a little time, I kept it T for freaking teen baby!!
a/n: what is there to say...technically preceding goldilocks but you don't have to read that to read this and vice versa. dani @alexturner once said to me "i love how she's the lawyer but he's always the one winning arguments" and i was like hm. perhaps i should rectify that. ok bye
Jack is elbow deep in someone’s chest cavity when his phone buzzes, cutting straight through the controlled chaos of consequences befalling a man rushed into his trauma bay after poor seatbelt choices and an accident straight out of Final Destination.
It starts as a faint tremor in the pocket of his scrubs—more vibration than sound—but even beneath layers of sterile gown and adrenaline, he feels it.
He doesn’t acknowledge it.

“They’re just looking for attention.”
Oh, a human being is seeking a social response? Human being, the social animal wired to make and track social connection? A human desires the vital blood that permitted their species to survive for millennia? The human being who was born completely helpless and primed in every way by nature to seek attention and help from their community?
Wow that’s crazy. How embarrassing. Humiliating even. Should we isolate them from community? Should we call Wire Mother?
I think that when you're overstimulated you should appear kind of grayed out and no one should be able to interact with you like a locked character in a video game

Thinking about her again 😌

at no point in the show does dean ever deny having romantic feelings for cas. every time hes teased, mocked, or its even brought up he just dodges the question (shut ur face get in the car (cassie parallel who he was in love with), he was ur boyfriend first, etc) and despite the numerous opportunities to deny their attraction towards each other, never does dean go “no gross”, or “no i dont like cas like that”, or literally any form of denial, dean just kinda takes it and swallows full innuendo intended and then changes the subject as fast as possible. cas was the same, every time people point out their relationship (all to save one man, he likes you, whos in love with you, thought you two were joined at the everything, etc) he never says “no its not like that” or anything to deny it. what im saying is that they 1) both were in love with each other, 2) both could not verbally bring themselves to deny it, and 3) only difference is that cas got to speak his truth and confess and dean never even got the chance.
The thing is in some of the later seasons, we get these moments where Misha is absolutely acting his ass off, while Jensen is giving us this strangely subdued performance, (notably 12x12 “Stuck in the Middle”), and you can just TELL that it’s because Jensen was thinking to himself, “Don’t be gay, don’t be gay, don’t make this gay.” But the irony is you can FEEL that thought echoing through Dean’s character. Like dude you didn’t make Dean Winchester any LESS gay—you just gave him internalized homophobia. And the whole restrained pining thing honestly makes everything GAYER
destiel has been haunting the narrative for five years now it’s actually crazy. everytime something happens they’re right there at the scene. destiel news meme how i love you.
"how do you know your friends don't secretly hate you/find you annoying" baby i've said things in discord servers that would make any other human being get a restraining order and move countries to never encounter my presence on this earth again, and they haven't even blocked me
if my friends hated my guts they simply would not keysmash in response to some of the worst sentences ever put together by the human mind
