I was 12 when the first of my siblings was born, so I have very vivid memories of the way my mother was excluded from a lot of spaces because people find children annoying.
If you think "children should not be allowed in this space," you HAVE TO reckon with the fact that you are now excluding parents (and very often women specifically) who don't have access to childcare. You are isolating people who are poor, or rural, or single parents, or any number of other factors that might prevent someone from having on-demand childcare. You are cutting them off from being able to exist in public. You are denying parents and children the ability to fully participate in society.
My mom spent several years only leaving the house to buy groceries or take me to school, and even then, people would still come up to her to complain TO HER FACE about how she shouldn't bring a crying toddler to Walmart. Entitled strangers would literally try and demand that my mom leave and come back without the kids.
"Why can't your husband watch them?" Because he was at work, usually working extreme amounts of overtime so we didn't get evicted, because landlords don't like it when you stop paying rent.
"Why can't you send them to daycare?" Because that costs money.
"Why can't your teenager stay home with them and babysit?" Because I also deserved to be able to leave the house for something other than school, and taking me to the grocery store was how my mom taught me to manage a household budget, shop sales, and meal plan.
"Don't bring your kid in public if you can't CONTROL them and make them stop crying!" Kids cry when they're upset, and being dragged around a store is upsetting! Don't be an asshole! Children are human beings who are still learning how the world works, and they don't have a lot of agency. You'd cry, too.
"Spank them until they learn to stop crying!" That's just straight-up child abuse, Jesus Christ.
What the fuck was our family supposed to do? Never go to the grocery store? Starve because strangers couldn't handle a toddler existing in public?
everyone loves to hate terfs until they realise that it actually entails rejecting bioessentialism entirely and then suddenly you’re “taking things too seriously” and you “don’t have a sense of humour” like i’m sorry but saying protect the dolls doesn’t make you immune to terfism it has seeped into every corner of mainstream feminism and unless you’re actively searching it out and checking your own biases you will always be at risk of sharing a space with terfs
“Only women can—” nope. “But all men—” nah. “The divine femininity of—” gonna stop you right there. “Everyone born ama—” if you finish that sentence I’ll kill you. “Men don’t experience—” you’re wrong. “Gender isn’t real but sex is imm—” *loud incorrect buzzer*
It also goes without saying that bioessentialism inherently can’t be trans inclusive no matter how hard you try. “All men including trans men—” probably not. “This is only a woman’s issue—” is it really? “Afabs only—” why? “All trans men are like—” what? what are they like? finish the sentence i dare you.
I just remembered. what if light had to drop out of college for mental health reasons but Sayu is graduating summa cum laude from that very same school and of course light is coming to support her and he feels extremely normal and calm about the whole thing (lying)

It was a clear bright day and Light was very happy for his sister.
He watched her walk across the platform in her hakama, smiling, to accept her certificate. He clapped, his hands numb. Beside him his mother and father were smiling too.
He felt good. He felt nothing but happiness for Sayu. Wearing a stiff black suit, the same kind he would have worn if he’d been the one walking across the stage himself, he felt amazing and joyous and grateful for his little sister.
His stomach sort of hurt.
“I’ll be right back,” he said to his parents — his mother flashed him a look of concern — and slipped out of the crowd, onto the quad, and headed for the washroom. His head was pounding. He didn’t know why.
There were signs leading to the washrooms but Light didn’t need them; he’d spent a year and a half at Tohou himself, before he’d had to drop out because — it didn’t matter why he needed to drop out. He simply had. His head had gone strange. He’d started doing things to himself that weren’t permitted. He had left for his own safety and wellbeing and his parents had let him stay in his childhood bedroom and sleep for sixteen hours a day until he felt okay enough to stay awake for most of the day. Someday he’d feel okay enough for a job. For friends. For a life.
He walked into the washroom. There was no one else in there. He locked the door and walked to the sink.
The tears came out in a brief and violent burst, like the expulsion of some strange sickness. He hardly knew they were going to happen. He gripped the edge of the sink and sobbed, feeling as though he were undergoing an exorcism.
When he stopped he stopped completely. He splashed water on his face and took a deep breath. He looked at himself in the mirror. He hardly looked like he’d been crying. His eyes were a little red, maybe, but one would have to look very closely to notice.
He turned and unlocked the door and headed back into the clear day.
“scientists don’t want you know” is a phrase that always cracks me up because if you actually meet a scientist they will be shaking and crying like an overstimulated chihuahua with the need to let you know
