Ana was born 'Ana Ramos Santiago' in Santa Catarina. Her early childhood was a happy one, she was an only child and had two loving parents. At the age of seven, however, both her parents passed away in a car accident. With no family to take her in, she was adopted by an American family in Seattle. Her adoptive father was a rich CEO and was somewhat in the public eye, and she had several adoptive siblings. She took her new family's name at their request and went by 'Ana Underwood'.
Growing up, she was a compassionate person who loved people and animals. She became a vegan at the age of fifteen.
Despite it all being big and scary at first, Ana grew to love her adoptive family and enjoyed the privilege of having access to a lot of money. When she graduated from High School, instead of going to college, she started traveling the world doing volunteer work. Her focus was wildlife conservation but she also did a lot of humanitarian work. By far, her favorite experience was working with elephants in Thailand.
Ana used her adoptive father's money to do all this work, and had no problem with that. It was only when she found out that his company participated in wage theft that she decided she didn't want him or his dirty money in her life. Especially after discovering that she and her siblings were only adopted to make him look good in the public eye.
She changed her name back to 'Ana Ramos Santiago', and discovered that she had a biological cousin living in Blackstone Ridge. She couldn't travel the world anymore, but she felt like helping in food banks in Texas would be a productive use of her free time.
Once she was there, she took a bar tending job and decided to save up to study zoology in college. She knows she has a long path ahead of her, but she is determined to build a career where she can do good in the world.
"Uh, can I just get two bottles of whatever beer you recommend." He paused, clarifying. "Not both for me. My boyfriend went outside to smoke and he'll be back in a second." It felt amazing, openly calling Key his boyfriend, to finally have it be official. In the meantime though, while Key was outside smoking and presumably chatting with Corey and the others, he had a few minutes to kill. "So what's your favorite costume you've seen tonight so far? Did you see Kit McGrady dressed as Benny? He's such a freaking prankster."
At his request, Ana just picked out her go-to beer. It was a vegan beer, of course, but she didn't go into that. She placed two bottles on the counter and started typing the price into the cash register. "I have, that is definitely my favorite of the night." She said, with a small laugh. "I also really like those Animal Crossing costumes. I loved those games when I was a kid." She added, with a smile. "What about you?"
Adriana clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth as she listened to her coworker speak. "Men." She muttered disdainfully, rolling her eyes. She sympathized, although not a vegan herself. It sucked to say she was used to that kind of attitude. At Ana's question, she tilted her head, carefully considering. It hadn't been too bad thus far, but the night was still young. "Next time someone gives you shit, tag me in. I got 'em." It wasn't a real threat--Adriana seemed to always know how to toe the line. "I can't complain, oddly enough." Her eyes drifted toward the entrance, where she had a feeling Javi might be, and a soft smile brushed against her lips. She turned back to Ana, busying her hands quickly by collecting her hair up into a neat bun. When she was done, she washed her hands in the nearby sink before reaching for a glass to pour another drink for a patron. "Can only go up from here, right?"
"I'll take you up on that. I'm sure you'll put them in their place." She said, with a smirk. Her eyes followed Adri's for a moment, just wanting to get a glimpse of whatever caught the other woman's attention. "I don't know, as the night goes on, people just get more drunk and more obnoxious. Do you think it would be unprofessional to get a bit buzzed ourselves?" She pondered, as she glanced back to Adri. "Desperate to leave or looking for something?" Ana actually didn't mind her job for the most part - it was just a drag on those super busy nights where there were loads of drunk people.
Javi was wiping down the bar when Ana’s voice reached him, hauling him back from the latest round of thoughts spinning around in his head. Tossing a glance over at her, he offered up a half-smile and nodded, “Yeah, I think we’ll have a pretty big turnout.” Which would mean more money towards a good cause, and things like that always made Javi feel hopeful. “It’d get you out of having to talk to people too,” he added when she mentioned going as a mime. He shrugged a shoulder, “Honestly haven’t given it a whole lot of thought. I think I’m matching with Adri, so I’ll leave that one up to her,” Javi chuckled, unsure if it was wise to leave that decision in her hands or not. He’d be a good sport, though, whatever she picked.
"I'd love to get out of talking to the really drunk ones." Ana said, with a small laugh. She was a very sociable person, but there was no denying that drunk people were very annoying when sober. Something she learned through this job. "I think I'll go for it - I can afford an expensive costume." She said, as she added the second hand stripy jumper to her cart. "Especially if I want to make peanut butter spiders for the kids in the food bank. And have non edible treats for the trick or treaters coming to my house."
"Awwww." Ana let out, when Javi revealed that he was matching with Adri. "That's adorable. I'm sure she'll come up with something great."
"Thank you for that," she scoffs as the odd man walks away from her after the bartender intervened on her behalf. She had been there nursing a drink preemptively to a late-night meeting call when this man felt inclined to chat her up and could not take her silence as a cue. She almost took the butter knife nearby and stabbed him in the hand. Thankfully, the woman intervened. Isla didn't want to ask, but she was pretty sure she had seen them in passing before. Not in Blackstone Ridge, though. Definitely the New York social scene in some capacity, but she couldn't quite put where she's seen this woman before. What brought her here, of all places? "I'm sorry, this may sound a bit offhanded, but I know you from somewhere."
Ana had seen a lot of men hit on uninterested women since she started working in the Whiskey Barrel. Intervening was always her first instinct, but it was something she had gotten better at over the past year. "No problem, let me know if he bothers you again." She said to the woman, before trying to suss out her face at the following question. "Have you been to any fundraisers, per chance?" She asked.
Ana approached the man waiting at the bar - it had been surprisingly quiet there for the past ten minutes, and she was enjoying the reprise of stupid drunks making stupid comments. "Mimes aren't meant to talk" was the most common one she had gotten, given her costume choice. But this guy didn't seem like he'd cause any problems, so she offered him a smile.
Ana was one of the bartenders Kit most looked forward to seeing at Benny's place. It wasn't hard to guess why, not when she was that pretty and fun to talk to. He didn't always understand the stuff she talked about — composting?! That seemed downright silly! — but that never stopped him from making conversation. When he'd spotted her driving up in her electric car, a stand out in this part of town for sure, Kit made his way over from the barn. "Hey yourself," he replied with a smug grin on his face as he flashed her a wink. "Let me guess, you're here for the same ol' shit, aren't ya? One of these days, you're goin' to show up just to see me, I'm countin' on it."
Ana let out a small laugh at Kit's joke. "You know me too well." She said. Admittedly, manure was a very odd thing to ask from someone - but part of gardening was to beg, borrow and steal as much as possible. "For what it's worth, I could've asked anyone around here, but I asked you first." She said, a small smile appearing on her face as she gave him a wink.
Benny had known it was coming, almost as though there'd been a shift in the air. It wasn't that he hated dancing. In fact, he'd always loved it. These days, he just didn't do it as often, which meant it put an extra strain on his muscles after all that slacking off. Thing was, Ana was just too damn convincing. "You make me sound like an old man," he teased, knowing damn well he did that all on his own. He eyed her hand closely before rolling his eyes. As he took it, Benny pulled the towel from his shoulder and tossed it onto the bar. "You know, just 'cause you haven't seen me two step doesn't mean I don't know how. Hope you wore your dancin' shoes, Ramos."
Ana grinned when Benny grabbed her hand and she gently guided him to a more clear area to dance. "I genuinely don't know how to two step." Ana confessed, she grew up in Mexico and then Seattle, after all. It's not like she had some rodeo-like upbringing. "Why don't you show me first? And then we're on." She teased, with a slight smirk on her face.

"So I just had a customer get upset with me because I never personally drank the beer he's having." She said, as she sat herself down on the counter to speak with Adri. "I told him that I'm vegan, so no, I have not drank that beer. Didn't judge him, just said I wasn't going to drink it. Then he started yelling at me that all beer is vegan." It was just like a man to think he knew more about her lifestyle choices than she did. "How is your shift going?"

"You know, I think circus' have such a problematic history - but this should still be fun. And the bar is raising money for a good cause, I can never fault that." Ana remarked, as she was scrolling through Poshmark for a potential costume. "Maybe I can go as a mime. That would be a good DIY costume." She said, before glancing up from her phone. "Have you thought about your costume yet?"

"You're reading the horoscopes?" Ana asked, glancing over the man as she served him his whiskey. "I haven't had a chance to read mine yet." She confessed, as she quickly wiped down the table. It was hard for her to pinpoint just how much truth there was to those kinds of things, but there had to be at least some. Hence why she read them. Maybe it was all just a placebo. "What does it say under Leo?"
"Don't take it personally," Mickey said with a shrug as she stabbed at her salad. She wasn't one of those people who turned up their nose at vegans, but she could never commit to that lifestyle. "I just really like meat," she joked with a smirk. "I mean, I'm sure your garden is excellent, and I'll gladly let you feed me, I just don't want you thinking you'll convince me to join the dark side." It was easy enough to keep things light with Ana, and Mickey knew the woman well enough now to trust that she could usually tell when Mick was joking. "As long as you let me bring wine, I'm down. I'll try anything once."
One of Ana's rules was to never judge people who were just trying to survive capitalism. Eating meat was made incredibly easy by capitalism, so it was hard to knock meat eaters. She grew up incredibly privileged, and she knew that. Her problem was with the system. That made laughing at Mickey's joke incredibly easy. She didn't need to give her lecture about how she would never preach veganism while capitalism was a thing. "You can totally bring wine, just make sure it's vegan so I can have a share." She teased.
"You have to let me make you dinner at some point." Ana remarked, before glancing down at the food she ordered. You could never go wrong with a good pasta dish. "I grow a lot of my own veg, so it's nice and fresh when I'm ready to cook." Mickey was a customer that Ana wound up liking - they were both kind of new around town and it was nice to meet someone who shared that.

Ana liked to compost anything she could get her hands on, and that included any manure that Kit could offer. She made her way to the ranch regularly just to see if he had anything for her - the better the soil, the better her food after all. He also happened to be hot, which may have increased those visits - but only slightly.
"Hey, you." She said, as she got out of her car and made her way over to him. An electric car, of course. She refused to drive anything else.
