I think the main appeal of catwin to me is that it's not just about Edwin falling in love with the Cat King, it's about him loving himself. It's about him being able to embrace the parts of him that used to scare him; his queerness, his desires, his attraction to men.

In falling for TCK, he's embracing all of the things about himself that he suffered to keep hidden for his whole life and afterlife up to that point.

In the show, TCK was a tipping point for him, the person that made it impossible for him to ignore his desires for other men and ultimately led him to confronting those feelings and accepting them.

The Cat King is overt in his sexuality. He's confident and doesn't shy away from his feelings. Seeing that form of open queerness in someone was important for Edwin's own journey with his sexuality.

The ultimate take away is that it's okay to have desires, it's okay to love, it's okay to be unapologetically who you are. You don't need to be afraid of it, or ashamed. The people who love you will love all of you.
