Can we talk about how good of a friend, how sensitive, how empathetic, how understanding Fernando was to/of Gallowglass, specifically in S3E4 of ADOW 🥺 🥺 🥺 😭😭😭😭

Like when Fernando tells Sarah that he's had to live with his grief for Hugh by himself for 700 years because nobody else would recognize and accept it and then he says Gallowglass grieve the love he has for Diana when no one else does because he recognizes it himself 😭😭

Gallowglass had had to live for centuries knowing of, falling for and loving a woman he has known for centuries he will never be able to be with. That protecting her from a distance is as close as he'll ever be able to love her. And then to watch her fall for and have children with not just another man, but his uncle - a man he respects and has a close relationship with. One he can't hate because, it was always going to be Matthew and Diana.

It's literally so fucking tragic and I'm sitting here crying writing this.

Stop saying Latinx.

Even Spanish speakers can’t pronounce it.

Spanish is a gendered language, you literally cannot “gender neutralize” Espanol. The masculine ending IS the gender neutral form of any word.

It’s extremely self entitled to believe you can suddenly start changing gendered languages, when there is ALREADY gender neutral endings in said languages.

It’s disrespect, because you must not understand these languages if you think it’s such a great idea. IT’S NOT.

Latinx is not the gender neutral ending. Latino is. Mexicano is.

Would you seriously walk up to a Spanish speaker and say “Ellxs son divertidxs, ¿verdad?” When talking about a mixed group of boys and girls.

No, because you’d look so, so stupid, if not confuse the Spanish speaker and also have a VERY hard time pronouncing that.

Americans and Filipino-Americans are trying to turn Filipinos and Pinoy into Filipinx and Pinxy, which is stupid, because Filipino isn’t a gendered language at all. All our pronouns are gender-neutral. I’ve heard people say they do this to build solidarity with all Filipinos but…aren’t we just submitting our own language to the conventions of our former colonizers’ languages? First we had to follow the -o for male and -a for female when the Spaniards came in, which is why words like Filpina exist, and now we have to follow the -x of the Americans, because national pride?? Native Filipinos don’t like it at all. Most of the reactions I’ve seen from them are either anger at the Westernization of our culture or jokes about Filipinx being a new Winx transformation.

alright, i’m gonna say this once and then i’m going to bring this post back every single time i have to because y’all can’t seem to get the picture:

when content creators flee this fandom due to overt racism, unreal expectations, content comparison, and just general nastiness—do not under any circumstances come crying to me. i will either not be here because i have left along with every other content creator or i will tell you exactly what i tell my elementary students:

is it KIND?

is it TRUE?

is it NECESSARY?

if you answered no to any one of those questions when typing out a hateful anon or smug comment, the impetus to fix your behavior lies on YOU—not me or anyone else. 

double, triple, and quadruple check before you even think about policing the way people of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, religious backgrounds, sexualities, or gender identities experience fandom. if you don’t like something, scroll the fuck on and keep your mouth shut. the fucking end. it honestly is not that hard, people.

i hate to get nasty, i really do; i’m rarely an angry person. but i have had it up to here with the shenanigans i see on my dash day after day. it breaks my heart to see people receive thinly veiled derogatory anons and to see content creators doubting their own work and worth because of any number of comparisons or pressures they feel from the outside. 

tldr; you want your fanfic? your art? shape the fuck up. rethink your next anon ask. the delete button for any number of content creators is just a click away.

i’m really sick of the way bipoc readers are excluded in fanfiction. for today i’ll just be talking about the pedro pascal fandom. i am sick and tired of white coded fics. these are an escape, and reading a description like “their milky skin”, “their grandmother’s teenage years”, “their small frame”, etc makes it feel so clear that bipoc readers are not meant to read it. i sure as hell don’t have milky skin, my grandma did not have a cutesy and nice early life and i am sure as hell not going to be as small as the writer was thinking. as a southeast asian reader, i’m well aware that there are other varying degrees to which bipoc readers are affected in fandom.

to preface, fan artists are so talented. their work is incredible and i admire it. i’m sorry to say that there’s a “but”. i’m sure the vast majority of us have read rough day by no droids. it’s an incredible work and often times an escape for me. fanart for the work though, has not sit right with me and i’ve realized why. almost all of the sweet girl fanart i have seen with din, she is thin and white, with eurocentric features. or alternately, pedro’s features are whitewashed in a drawing of his character and it brings forth this feeling of like “oh this isn’t for me anymore” or i’m not enough to be this character i was meant to identify with.

additionally, fics where rc’s family looks down on a pedro character for being latino/an immigrant. i have a huge issue with those. every time, rc goes “i don’t care that he’s below me! i love him!” and that’s not fucking okay. it just screams white savior. you are not doing this hypothetical character a favor by saying you like them despite their ethnicity. like what???? in one i began to read, that i will not presently name out of discomfort, had rc’s family refer to a pedro character as a “dirty immigrant”. what the fuck. i stopped reblogging and reading and unfollowed. i’m from a family of immigrants. do white writers understand how terrible that is to hear in fandom? something we genuinely enjoy?
