hey! donate to uk trans charities today because it’s gonna be a rough one
Folks in the UK, could we have some trusted links to charities?
There's Mermaids which is always a great option, and then Scotland-specific there's LGBT Youth Scotland, to give you just a couple. There will absolutely be more that other people can suggest though!
A couple I donate to: TransAid Cymru, to support Welsh trans people, and The Outside Project, which helps queer people in London struggling with homelessness (and as trans people make up a disproportionately large number of unhoused people, it feels very relevant.)
Goes without saying, but don't donate to Pride Cymru, because they're complete shit.
do not underestimate how many times i can listen to a song in a row

it was a mistake to stop referring to female hysteria as "womb fury"
by tumblr consensus, it seems we shall now be referring to PMS as WOMB FURY. fantastic job everybody
Bear Stars by Galina Egorenkova
scully is truly one of the characters most near and dear to my heart.
she's a navy brat. a middle child to a distant father. a genius. she rewrote einstein at age 23. she is a doctor and a scientist and she's wrestled with god, but never stopped wearing the cross necklace from her mother. she's jealous and territorial. she likes rules and still breaks them with regularity.
she will not discuss her emotions unless it's under 50 layers of metaphor, but she also cannot hide her feelings, so she sits there, visibly moody. she is a terrible liar. she falls asleep easily. she can and will kill someone, but she's such a good shot that she usually doesn't need to- she can put a bullet right in your collarbone and call an ambulance instead.
she spouts disconcerting facts about bugs and decomposition and genetics and saints without blinking. she once autopsied a guy and then ordered his last meal for dinner. she can cure alien viruses. she wants the real cream cheese on her bagel and something sweet to drink. how could you not love her.
"Shouldn't the man who invented the iPhone own his own creation?"
An explanation by anti-capitalist brad pitt.
"Mazzucato lists twelve crucial technologies that make smartphones “smart”: (1) microprocessors;(2) memory chips; (3) solid state hard drives; (4) liquid crystal displays; (5) lithium-based batteries;(6) fast Fourier transform algorithms; (7) the internet; (8) HTTP and HTML protocols; (9) cellular networks; (10) Global Positioning Systems (GPS); (11) touchscreens; and (12) voice recognition. Every last one was supported by the public sector at key stages of development."
Leigh Phillips and Michal Rozworski, The People’s Republic of Walmart
“A critical history of technology would show how little any of the inventions [..] are the work of a single individual.”
–Karl Marx, Capital
[Video caption for original post: screenshot of a comment that reads "So you're saying the man who created the iPhone and made the whole thing possible, shouldn't own his creation?"
The response by Cody Taffet (@thetranscending) on TikTok, spoken, is as follows.]
I'm not trying to ridicule anybody; I think life is hard enough as it is. But I really want to use this comment as a reference, because this type of 'great man' sort of Ayn-Randian idea is really pervasive and insidious.
Y'all - "a man" did not "invent" the iPhone, okay? Smartphone technology is the result of teams of people working together over many decades: liquid crystal technology; transistor technology... all of these technologies that we associate with capitalism and innovation - they were developed in the public sector, mainly by underpaid and overworked researchers funded by public grants. Lots of these cool technologies that we enjoy are just the result of human beings working together and making cool shit - not "great" ingenious white men who, like, then deserve all the money, or something. So yeah, food for thought.

"I think there’s something about Irving and Helly R. They formed an alliance in Season 1, really, at the Perpetuity Wing ... There’s a real familial bond that they have ... For Helena, her relationship with her father is so challenging that the kind of dynamic she has with Irving, I think, is triggering for her because it kind of rhymes a little bit with a father figure, but it’s a way more nurturing one than she’s ever experienced."
