Ways of seeing continued: For this experiment I used 3 layers of paper where a hole is ripped in the first one to provide a window for the face.

I wanted to explore and reflect on identity/racial blurs in humanity, blurring our ways of categorising and classifying our identity via different means, e.g. Things we like/how we ‘accessorise ourselves etc.

It would iterate a way of seeing our identity embedded into one: simply humans - our identity that is stripped bare from all materialism and culture, often culture that is romanticised I think?

For the experiment I only iterated one but edited it to visualise what the final thing would possibly look like if I chose to further this experiment.

Final Submission

There is no final submission because there is no answer to what constitutes a human. Scratch that -- there isn't one answer to my own rhetorical question. The result may actually be the only thing that makes a human, and the process is disregarded, or maybe the process is what makes a human 'human'. Only time will tell when this technology is further developed. I hope you've enjoyed my work. Just know that the images aren't directly correlated to the investigations and thought that I have put into composing them. :D

This is an experiment to explore the result of converting a photo of me into an audio file. The result is just static. I haven't tested on any other photos, but I find that it speaks to what makes a human. We are all biologically identical from birth -- we have the same organs, chemistry in our bodies, etc. -- but we have all ended up being unique to one another. Even identical twins don't share the same personality or fingerprint.

This pop-up dialogue isn't unique to the OSX10.9 operating system, but is universal across all platforms. This speaks volumes in relation to the question because it addresses that even the computer cannot distinguish between two files of the same name in the same directory. Maybe this can be looked into as there shouldn't be two of anyone in the same location? As many would know, the only way to overcome this is to add more characters after this string of text, to help the computer to identify between the files. This can draw parallels to having serial codes on clones, just like money. This somewhat retains their integrity as a unique individual, just like how the serial code validates plastic notes as currency.

The over-replication has caused the meaning of the subject to change into something different, losing its integrity. This is representative of the loss of uniqueness of the individual if mass cloning is performed. You would never be able to tell the difference from far away and look at it as a whole, not as an individual.

This image exaggerates the effect which results from compressing and saving an image repeatedly, creating an extremely lossy image and increasing the levels of artefacts present in the image. This is representative of attempting to recreate something from an 'essence'. It is simply impossible to recreate a human from one single element, but instead, the entirety is needed for the process.

This article briefly outlines the steps in 'making' IVF babies. To my surprise, they weren't actually born and raised in massive human test tubes (lol). This gives insight as to what is involved during this process.

Louise Brown, the world's first test-tube baby, was born 35 years ago today, revolutionizing the field of reproductive medicine and giving infertile women hope that they could become mothers.

This article and the videos related to it, present the views of a family who are one of the first IVF born babies. The main points to take away is how smoothly it transitioned into normal life, and that the only indicator to knowing that it was a test tube baby was the report about them. However, this, in turn, draws attention to the question of whether a human is a human based entirely on the appearance?

As science improves, and more control over the outcome of the baby is controlled by the doctors and parents. This begins to cross the line into playing God, choosing who has life or not based purely on personal preference.
