We don't talk enough about America's permanent ongoing saturation of "Stranger Danger" hysteria. It's like this country's whole social ecosystem teaches full grown adults to perceive an invisible army of rabid bogeymen lurking around every fucking corner. And it's everywhere. Absolutely fucking everywhere, top to bottom, from true crime media and urban legends like the old Poison Halloween Candy thing to our sadistically rage-fueled, revenge-based justice system and immigration policies. The NRA and the war on drugs and post 9/11 airport security and mccarthyism and satanic panic and just E V E R Y T H I N G in America, everything that has defined its history for 100+ years is constantly nothing but this fucking FEAR TERROR FEAR TERROR for positively no reason. None.

So the Queen of England is gonna visit a video game expo, right. It's a huge deal, everyone's very excited. And she brings two guards with her - just two, cause she doesn't wanna attrack a lot of attention. One is a very official, very business-minded fellow, great at his job, never any issues over the years. The other, right, he's just a chess player. Pro chess player, proper Brit, got hired just for this gig. No experience. Everyone thinks "what's this guy doing here?" but the queen insists.

So they get to the airport the day of their flight. The airport worker says, I'm sorry but I can't let you board the plane, I wish I could help you, I don't have any records here of your tickets. Professional guardsmen is trying everything he can think of, right, he's calling the higher ups, he's begging her to try and figure something out. He and the queen step away for a moment, chess player walks up to the airport security. He taps her computer and says something, guard types away for a second, her face lights up, she goes yes, of course, right this way please.

The other, more experienced guardsman is stunned. They get on the plane with the queen and he says, what on earth did you say to her? Chess player shrugs and says, "Queen to E3. Check, mate."

i’m thinking about that scene near the beginning of into the spider-verse where mary jane is delivering her eulogy for spider-man to an assembled crowd and some people are wearing his mask / costume, including miles, and the camera pans over their faces with miles in centre frame while MJ says, “we all have powers of one kind or another. but in our own way, we are all spider-man,” and then the camera focuses in on miles and she says, “and we’re all counting on you.” and it’s just *chef’s kiss* bc the storytelling! the cinematography! the symbolism! single-handedly revived the medium of animation

miles gazing up at peter parker spider-man’s costume in his lair thinking he won’t measure up vs. him making his own version of the costume to fit his own needs and motivations vs. at the beginning when he’s wearing a cheap halloween costume version of it to symbolise not just his desire to simply mimic what spider-man (from both dimensions) did instead of forging his own path, but also the pressure & insecurities of having big shoes to fill vs. uncle aaron saying “you’re the best of us”... poetic cinema!
