genuinely I'm so sick of people wanting all fiction to be ethical. can we all just get a little gross with it. the point of fiction is that it's not real. we can be unethical in fiction; same goes with being perverted with fiction, being unrealistic with fiction, and being grotesque with fiction. not all fiction has to be ethical, not every character has to be ethical, and that's okay. can we stop with the puritanism. be gross. be unrealistic. be whatever. if I don't like it it's not my business as long as we're all clear that its fictional.

togachako really did get done so dirty by the series and a lot of the wider fandom, these two are literally the only two characters i give a shit about bc their dynamic is just so interesting

like the way it becomes a two way obsession and Ochako being forever haunted by Himiko, like Ochako literally admits Himiko's been living rent free in her mind since the night they met, Ochako being the only one who looks and really sees Himiko it just drives me insane

everything could have been different if she had just met Ochako sooner

but it's still bullshit they wanted to kill Himiko off when the whole point is that Ochako wanted to help build that world that would be easier for Himiko to live in, there WAS a place for her in the world Ochako wanted to help create and it's such a disservice to Himiko's character that her whole thing was that she'd been shamed and excluded and called a monster for something she could not help and killing her feels like the story shrugging its shoulders and going 'yeah they were all right to dehumanize her! she doesn't belong here and also she can't get better with help and support, better luck next time tho'

and don't even get me started on the way they brush over Ochako's grief - a character who was fucking defined by her selflessness, to the point of extremity. Ochako devoted her entire fucking life plan around wanting to help her parents, she lives extremely cheaply, still uses a flip phone, skips meals and goes to sleep to not waste air?? I know in a way its meant to be comedic but this reads to me like a girl who is absolutely buried in guilt over her very existence and needing to justify it through usefulness - she will be the good daughter, a good student, a model hero, she will be everything people expect from someone like her.

Now take that and force her into a situation where while she was willing to forfeit her very life if it meant she could save Himiko, if she could just lighten the burden in her heart just a little, it is now taken out of her hands and it is Himiko who sacrifices herself to save Ochako.

Ochako was begging and crying for her not to do it, but Himiko did it anyway, and now Ochako is left with the guilt and grief that her own life had to come at the cost of someone else's. She actively blames herself for Himiko's death - for even being stabbed in the first place - and even in the chapter meant to be about her and exploring it, literally not a single character actually comforts her about it. No one challenges her blaming herself. And you want me to believe she is just Fine after sobbing her heart out???

It all circles back to the fact that Himiko inspired selfishness in Ochako and Ochako inspired selflessness in Himiko and like I don't care what anyone says it was love and Ochako would not be over her.

sometimes I’m reminded that there are still people who don’t know ao3 was literally created by incest shippers — and the site’s sole purpose is to 1. be completely against censorship and 2. host all kinds of dark, taboo fics that are banned on other platforms — and the first ever fic that was posted on ao3 was a fic about an incest ship from supernatural.

you are in the house that was created by freaks. for freaks (affectionate). every disgusting thing you can think of is rightfully allowed and welcomed on ao3, because they are exactly the reasons why ao3 was created in the first place.

ao3 was created because its creators got tired of censorship, they got tired of dark and taboo fics getting banned on pro-censorship platforms, and they wanted a place that was safe for ALL FICS THAT WERE DARK AND TABOO.

ao3’s main principle is being against censorship and being proship / profic.

there are some things in fiction that make me uncomfortable, but instead of shaming people who are just minding their own business and not harming anyone in real life, I choose to curate my own internet experience by blocking/muting what I don’t want to see. ao3 has excellent tagging system, so instead of being rude, instead of asking why the world doesn’t revolve around your personal comfort, use their tagging system properly and you won’t see the things you don’t want to see.

it’s your job to curate what you see. it’s not other people’s jobs or responsibilities to censor themselves for your personal comfort. the world does not revolve around you.

also you cannot censor “only the things you personally hate” without expecting everything else, that isn’t of conservative beliefs, to be censored too. because censorship is a slippery slope and a fascist tool. I promise you there are people who think “why do tags for queer love even exist on ao3? they’re grooming children”.

if you allow the things that you hate to be censored — because someone with enough power gets to control what other people can and cannot create/consume, it will not stop at the things that you hate.
