Pidge was surprised to say the least when she fell down a hole with a giant robotic lion in space and find herself in this strange magical land from that RPG that Coran set on. Although the smiling cat did not have an orange mustache so who knows. Wait wasn’t there a giant feline weapon of destruction that she was piloting?

“Girl where are you?” Pidge stood up and looked around frantically only for her foot to step on something and she fell back. 

“Ouch what was....AHHHHHH girl what did they do to you?” Pidge was steering at what looked like to be an action figure vehicle that looked like it came from an old show her and her dad used to watch together. The green lion was a small toy and there. Was that a yellow pool ring next to it. It was the kid you threw into the water and dove down to get. She picked it up and it grew warm and became  HER BAYARD! Then it quickly shrunk again back to the frickin’ pool ring. She sighed and looked up at the sky. The paladins of Voltron were straight up going to fucking die without me.

Mei tapped the side of her head as if jolting her brain. “Ah yes! Right side up, how silly of me to forget that.” It was difficult at times for Mei to remember terminology and translations–they varied vastly and she often stumbled.

Sticking out as she thought, Mei rolled her eyes upwards as if searching for an answer to PIdge’s question. She didn’t have an immediate answer at the time, but luckily the two had quite some time before needing to reach a decision. Of course, it was better for them to figure it out sooner rather than later. It made everything easier, especially with all the programming that needed to be done.

“I honestly have no idea at the moment,” she answered, slouching her shoulders a bit in dismay. “But I would love to hear the ideas that you have!”

“I was thinking something similar to a scoop so it is easy to grab and let go of it. But the way to set that up would probably take a while to make sure it is set up well and the axis remains stable. “ Pidge as she was talking reopened the sketchbook at all the designs she had made. 

“Oh and we need to figure out the main body like if its a cylinder, box, etc.” She looked at everything from the tiny little triangle with mars rover treks to the large robot cat that she made after Vern. 

“Ugh I vote for a small amount of procrastination. Have you made any robots before?” She asked maybe placing to the side for a bit it will help them make a decision in a bit.

This freshman was adorable.

It didn’t take long for Mei to decide, and she found herself as equally excited to be working on this project. “It is also nice to meet you, Pidge” Mei said with a smile. Though she was curious about the origins to Pidge’s nickname, it wasn’t her place to ask about it. Maybe later, once the two had begun progress on their project. After-all, people never asked why Mei preferred shortening her name.

At Pidge’s question and suggestion, Mei couldn’t help the way her eyebrows furrowed together as she thought. The robot had to complete an obstacle course, complete with travelling around bars and pushing a few balls into holes. That part was simple: but it was a race against three other robots.

And sabotages were allowed in the obstacle course as long as the robot was not destroyed in the process. But there were only allowed one little sabotage.

“I think that would be good. Other people would probably not think about defensing themselves against a flip. We could possibly use our flipper as a way to turn our robot upside-right!”

“If that is the word that I am thinking.”

Pidge paused at the phrase.

“right side up?” She asked trying to say it in a nice way. Pidge wondered how she could have made the mistake? Maybe she was a international student? Oh well it really did not matter. Pidge pulled the sketch to think of some other things that would need to be added. 

“What would you recommend we add to collect the ping pong balls? I have a few ideas but what would you recommend?” She flipped through the various sketches she had.  Some ideas way over the top others that could work but with the flipping arm would not work together.

It wasn’t very often that Mei found herself being contacted by previous professors, much less asked for her cooperation with a freshman class. Yet, here Mei was at the front of the classroom, smiling as the professor explained the upcoming robotics competition.

She wasn’t even sure if anyone was staring at her, but she could feel her teeth gritting together behind closed lips. She felt uncomfortable just standing here, people staring at her. But the competition seemed like fun. It was for college students, teams of two–the team had to consist of an upper-level student and a lower-level student.

This could be fun.

After the explanation, the professor paired the people up based  on his observations and the people he believed would be a fitting team. Mei stared at the girl in front of her, two pairs of brown eyes staring at equal height. She smiled. First impressions must always be positive.

“Hello! My name’s Mei-Ling, but you can call me Mei,” she introduced. “I look forward to working with you.”

Pidge sat in her chair exciting for the robotics project. She loved robotics she felt her her foot tap and bob as she waits for the teacher to finish the explanation. Then the groups were paired. She stood up and sat down with a girl who was actually as short as she was.

“Hi, my name is Katie Holt but my friends call me Pidge. Nice to meet you.” She was excited to work with an upper class men though she did look pretty young pidge was in the same boat. 

“so what should we have our robot do?” She said as she took out a note book and a pencil.

“I was thinking we could use it to flip other robots over, what do you think?” She said with a smile. The truth is that she wanted to try all these crazy cool ideas but she was holding back. She did think about a flamethrower, it was just for a second though but she knew she needed to think more practically.

    An inquisitive mind? That was respectable, especially for someone so young. This little one reminded Moira a little of herself, before her parents showed how reluctant they were about progress and taking risks.

    A smirk, “Well, thank you. that presentation is more than likely going to be my thesis, so I should hope it did well. For the ideas behind my proposal for increased genetic experimentation, that is something that I am still working on making more…politically correct for the current scientific community. There are certain individuals that are…hesitant to go forward with certain methods of research and experimentation.”

    She had to word her statements very carefully, she did not want to have any higher-ups catching winds of her ideas for her future research and for them to try and stop her. It would ruin her future entirely.

    With a tight smile, as she hated to be professional to someone beneath her, “Now little one, might I ask what is your name? I do not believe I have seen you before today.”

Her statements were very hesitant that Pidge stated to feel something was they did make sense. Moira seemed to be trying to avoid going against the humane right of individuals. So the work was most likely concept instead origin. There was something about her face though that seemed strange to her. Was it her expression. Oh what did Pidge know? she was terrible with people anyway. 

Pidge smiled when she asked her a question.

“I am not surprised I am a freshman in computer science and engineering. I have always been interested in genetic engineering as well.”

Pidge walked into her room and just plopped into her bed tired from all the science classes. She continued to lay there for a while until she sat up realizing that Vern has not greeted her. Normally she was already at the door when she opened it. She jumped back up and searched for the small white cat and came up empty. Then she felt a cold chill and looked over to see that the window was open. Crap.

She immediately opened her door and ran out until she saw where here window was. There was still snow on the ground so she could see the tracks and it was not that cold in here room so it had not been open for long. She started to track it until she heard a loud meow. She increased her pace as she made her way through the snow with her heavy boots.

The Fallen Star || Pidge & Moira

Moira loved being in the spotlight, especially when it was involving anything involving her research. However, while the spotlight was glorious at times, the constant attention could get tiring sometimes. Her social interactions were limited before she would start getting unpleasant with people, that wasn’t good when you’re trying to build professional relationships.

So when an annoying little freshman came up to Moira after her presentation about her latest research proposal, yes it was open to the public since her professor wanted the class to be “community inclusive”, she wasn’t going to be on her A game when it came to interacting to this…child? They look 12. She knew that she was a junior, and that the freshmen class was obviously going to be younger than her…but the small human in front of her didn’t seem to fit into the college atmosphere.

Clearly annoyed at them, Moira’s face turned a little sour, “Hello. Who are you?”

Pidge was sitting in the crowded room filled of students and professors. The red headed student, Pidge thought she was a upper class man, was very intriguing. Her proposal involving genetic engineering and medicine was awe inspiring concept. Although she can’t help but wonder how it would be applied practically the idea could really inspire a lot of impressive work. 

Once the presentation was over many people walked up to her. Pidge could not help but have this one question bounce around in her head. So she got up and went in the line. As she went through the various group she managed to get to Moira. She was surprised with the attitude she received with her but she just moved past that. Maybe the people before her were being rude. 

“I really like your presentation but I was wondering what your ideas were behind actually putting your purposeful into practice?”

White Out

During Haruhi’s time here at TTU, the library had become one of, if not her absolute, favorite place to study. People normally kept the noise level down and Haruhi didn’t find herself being overly distracted like she had in past study environments. Sadly, she wasn’t able to continue studying here for the day. There were things that needed to be done back at her dorm. Like she needed to eat dinner, get a different book… there was just so much.

And she was nearly done with this paper. She was as good as done, and a break would do her good. Right? Right.

After she packed up her various belongings into the backpack, Haruhi made her way down the stairs and toward the building’s front entrance. The brunette could already feel the freezing air outside, a draft probably coming in from the front door. As she looked out the front door and saw the current state of the outside world, she inhaled a deep breath. Snow normally wasn’t an issue. She had gotten some in Japan. But the amount of snow, combined with the impeccable wind, was a problem.

There was no way she could traverse across campus. The snow in the sky was too thick that she couldn’t even see the steps of the library, much less the rest of the campus.  

She couldn’t risk this walk. It could knock her over and break her laptop, and the girl did not have even a portion of the money that could go towards a new one. “Do you think it’s going to let up anytime soon?” she asked aloud to an amount of people also crowded around the door.

Pidge finished the last bit of code for the engineering project she was doing. It was an easy assignment but as procrastination is her way of life she was sending it in a bit last minute. She closed her heavy laptop and took the last swig of what was probably her third cup of coffee, she ignored the larger concentration of grids. She pulled her sweatshirt on and then her coat. Pidge being small the cold just went right through her. She placed her big headphones on and walked to the door to see a group of students in the door. 

Pidge went and try to maneuver around people until she could see outside. A blast of cold and snowflakes went through the door and instantly fogged up her glasses. Pidge cursed and took them off and wiped them off. The look of an outside was the color white which since it was later at night was already starling. The tall boy that left has already vanished. She quickly pulled out her phone in response to the girl next to her’s question.

“Not until about 5 a.m.” Pidge said feeling the look of disgust on her face. 

Pidge would literally fly away in that if she went outside.

Ready, Fight!

Classes were over for most students. It was raining and cold. At times like this, there’s only one thing to do: play videogames.

Sun was excited, running to the gaming club’s room and kicking the door open. He waited the whole day in agony for his classes to end so he could do this. Nothing was going to ruin his day.

“Alright everyone, gather ‘round! Get ready for the best experience of your life!” He plugged in his ps4, putting on the ground all of the games he had with him as much care as one would treat their most prized possession. He kept talking to himself, while others were doing their own thing. It seemed everyone was already used to his crazy behavior.

“Here we go!” With everything plugged in, he turned the tv and the console on, sitting down on the floor with his pile of games on his lap. “Nothing can surpass the awesomeness of the ps4!”

Pidge was working on one of the other gaming member’s laptop. Apparently their recording data had become corrupted.

“alright so we will just do this...” She muttered and with a few more clicks and there. The recording was working a lot better. Sure it was not the best however, it was still usable which seemed to be the real goal of what they were trying to do. They thanked her and ran off to quickly save. Pidge picked up her DS about to start up Pokemon moon. 

Pidge jumped half way through catching a Mimikyu, startled by the sudden noise that happened as he raced through the door and set up his PS4. Pidge stood up and walked over when he motioned for everyone forward.

He clearly hadn’t thought this through. If Ken had paid any attention to the weather report for the day then perhaps he would have known about the current downpour, and yet… here he was. The library wasn’t the worst place to be stranded at, but it always gave him the dreadful feeling of needing to study something whenever he was there.

His head turned to the side just slightly when the door open, and he noticed a girl standing just a small ways away from him. “Looks like we chose to leave at the worst time.”

Pidge looked outside the glass doors of the library and groaned at the steady down pour that caused the windows to fog up slightly. She opened the door to hear the loud rain pooling on the ground. The smell of the water filled the air, it was so nice despite the fact the second she walked out her glasses fogged over. She pulled out the glasses cloth and quickly wiped off the perspiration. The boy, who she did not notice right away, spoke to her. After placing the glasses back on her nose she turned her attention to him.

“Yeah looks like we are stuck.”

An Interesting Opportunity~ Pidge and Rintarou

Rintarou did notice how his student seemed to look at his inventions with curiosity, which immediately pleased him. Her gaze seemed to be stuck on his actual research, the nano battery, for a few moments before she answered his question. Rintarou looked up at her from his chair and nodded.

“You’re not the first one to ask about it today”, he said. “Must be an error in the text book. It’s refering to Newton’s second law of motion.”

She told him what her name was. Well, he had been close at least. Her nickname piqued his interest, though. “Pidge?”, he repeated. “Where does that come from?”

Rintarou was delighted when she showed interest in his research. Asking about his inventons was always the easiest way right into Rintarou’s heart, and he decided immediately that he liked this student. Plus, it sounded like she was an inventor herself. Which probably shouldn’t surprise him, seeing as she studied Engineering and Computer Science. He pointed at the coffee machine. “This? That’s just a little experiment to relax. I’m trying to modify the coffee machine so it will filter out all coffee molecules when you run coffee through it, and you get coffee powder and water out of it.”

So far, he either got muddy water or gooey brown dirt out of it, but he had just started working on it today, so he was positive he could work it out soon.

“You made a robot?”, he asked interested.

“Thanks so much “ She said as she quickly made a note in the book to the theory it was looking at. The problem was a lot easier then she thought with the theory actually available. Her professor asked about her nickname and she took a breath pondering for a second to condence the story effectivly. 

‘Well I got my nickname in a strange way. I actually got in a lot of trouble as a kid for hacking and Pidge was a hacker name I choose because on pokemon red I defeated the elite four with just a pidgeotto so I took Pidge as my hacker name but my friends found out and started calling me that as well. It is at the point where it actually feels weird to be called Katie despite it being my fist name.” 

“as for the robot I did make him from scrap, his name is Rover. I’m looking to design him to be able to fly or be able to switch his A.I to another vessel depending on what I need, but I have to do a design overhaul. The A.I is pretty basic but he is extremely useful.” she smiled as she looked back at her professor’s experiment. 

“as for the experiment, is it possible to add another filter maybe doing a separate one for both the water and grounds for the right mixture?”

Bleachers and the field- Pidge and Mulan

Pidge sat on the bleachers reading her advanced physics book. She had her large headphones on listening to some random dub step remix artist someone recommended her so she figured she would give it a shot. She looked down at the football fields to see the occasional play. Pidge did not exactly like sports but her now she felt it was more interesting then even the pros, maybe because there was no where as much pressure with it, it actually made it look fun. That made it entertaining enough to look over her notes on occasion to see someone run past or in this case get completely shut down. 

 She looked over to people watch for a bit the others on the bleachers. Some focused cheering people on others looking at their phones waiting for it to be over. There was a kid taking pictures, school paper maybe? Who knows? She observed for a moment more then returned to her formulas.

An Interesting Opportunity~ Pidge and Rintarou

Rintarou was always one of the last of his coworkers to leave work in the evening. One of the running gags in the Physics department was that lifelong bachelor Rintarou Okabe was married to Physics instead of to a woman.

Well, they weren’t really wrong. His work was his passion, so he didn’t really see a reason in not staying till late in the night sometimes. Other people had their hobbies, inventions were Okabe’s.

It wasn’t even that late in the evening when suddenly, it knocked at his lab’s door and one of his students peeked inside, but it was still late enough to surprise Rintarou. He looked up from one of his inventions he had been working on, pulling up the lab goggles he had been wearing to shield his eyes from sparks from the electrical circuitry in an old coffee machine he had been tinkering with.

His lab was a messy arrangement of work tables with electrical devices scattered all over them. Most of the devices were modified household appliances and those were more of a hobby than part of his job. His actual research, a nano battery prototype, sat on a table in the far back of the lab, with lots of very expensive equipment around it.

He recognized his student from one of his introductory Electronics seminars he held for the Engineering students, and he thought he had also seen her in one of his introductory Physics lectures for computer scientists. He tried hard to remember her name. “Oh, hello, can I help you, Miss… Hard..?”, he tried.

Pidge saw that her professor was their surrounded by different machinery and wires. She smiled as she looked at the stuff through out the lab tables. She walked into the room and approached her professor. There were things like a half dissected microwave and a toaster that was in parts. She was focused on the pieces that were being place on the large project in the center. She was so busy to try and figure out what it is that he was making that she did not respond immediately to his questions. She looked back to him.

“I just had a question on the homework, this one problem does not talk about which theory I should reference when answering it so I was wondering which one I should base the answer on? As for my name it says Katie Holt on the student list but I go by Pidge. What are you working on? There is even more stuff on the tables then when I was making my robot and computer at the same time.”  She said with a even bigger smile. She was excited to hear what a college professor was working on.
